  1. No walks given up by the staff is a great stat especially in a low scoring game.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) So, Danish is getting a cup of coffee? *rimshot* But Decaf
  3. So he is out till after the All Star game. Then he will need at least a couple weeks in Charlotte seeing live pitching which means around August 1st. Can he manage the team until he is ready???
  4. I have posted on this site for years that many posters totally miss the boat on attendance. Big market teams like the Yankees Red Sox Dodgers etc. have huge numbers of corporate season tickets. Not corporate boxes but grandstand seats. I can speak from experience as a long time New Englander that numerous successful businesses have 4-8 seat blocks in Fenway. Chicago is a big city so I would assume the Cubs must be getting the corporate seats in Chicago. I know when I visited a major Bank in town on business in 2003 they offered me Cub tickets during my stay. Corporate tickets better absorb down periods in on the field success. They also provide much higher up front money for the team than sales throughout the season. The downside for fans is that they also raise the prices of tickets for the fan who does not have access to corporate tickets. When I am in Tampa, 2 tickets to a Rays game are about $40 which is about the price of parking close to Fenway. Large market vs small market.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 01:19 AM) You make a trade ASAP or sell. It's not worth puttsing around for six more weeks and being even more out of it and then trading for a bat. This trade will be a mistake. Not because I think Bruce sucks but because this team just isn't very good. Bruce would come here and immediately suck too with the Sox luck lately with hitters. Problem is the sellers will want to wait till there are more buyers unless you want to overpay now. I doubt there will be too many trades until after the draft.
  6. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) It sounds like that's the intention - leave him in the minors where he can continue to develop; however, if the major league play at SS is sub-par offensively and the team continues to a bottom feeder in offensive stats, I think there could be a change of course. Also depends on Anderson. He had a great start but has dropped off the last 2 weeks. Pretty normal for a young player.
  7. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) I was under the impression managers actually conducted and oversaw events called practices where they went over hitting, fielding, pitching, bunting, and real game situations to help the players get better. Guess I was wrong. Huh??? You are kidding I assume. Read Francona's book on the years he managed the Red Sox
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) Hopefully Shields walking into the clubhouse today and being home will give them the shot in the arm they need. They care. And if you look at the injuries going on in the division, the Sox should be able to get right back in there. The team I'm most worried about going on a run now is the Tigers. That lineup can be potent and Michael Fulmer is showing why he's a good pitcher. As long as we don't get a major injury as well.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Anybody that thinks James Shields was ever an ace is crazy. David Price was the ace of those Rays teams, Shields has always been a compliment. During the years of their success, Price had one great year in 2012. In 2011 and 2013 when the Rays made the playoffs he was 22-21 combined. Shields those same two years was 29-21.
  10. FWIW------ I just listened on talk-radio to Peter Abraham who has covered the Red Sox for Boston Globe for years. The question came up why Red Sox didn't make a move for Shields since they need a starter and their farm is loaded w prospects. He said Red Sox scouted him and felt he could not pitch effectively in Fenway so they wouldn't give up any prospects. So it helped the White Sox that the Red Sox dropped out of the bidding.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) You certainly did. Boy did I mess that up. I didn't really read what you were saying - just saw the names - and completely misinterpreted your point. And not in a respectful manner. I apologize to you and to the board. And I agree with your post. You have been sent down to the Charlotte Knights Message Board for a rehab stint.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) He's staying in baseball shape in the unaffiliated leagues. Nice guy to the fans. Robin is named player/manager and will be the LH DH w Avi the RH.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) at home 4-5 gets him fired 5-4 gets him the road trip, where they have to go at least 3-4 6-3 gives him until the break, unless the Twins sweep them too 7-2 and he is resigned for 3 years. 8-1 and he is resigned for 4 years 9-0 and he is named Manager /GM
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) Not sure why people keep complaining that this move doesn't address the offense. The amount of talent we gave up and money we took on doesn't prevent us from adding a big bat. Hahn is simply addressing holes as opportunities present themselves. If Shields can be an effective #4 starter, then this move was well worth it considering the cost and what we're currently getting out of that spot. Agree. The team needed another starting pitcher. They have since last winter when the 4( Johnson) and 5 ( Danks) were both questionable. Hahn got Latos as a 6 and we saw how fast he became a 4. Shields is now the 4/5 and I assume Latos will be as well. There will be much more trade talk after the draft as teams shift their emphasis and resources.
  15. Getting Shields w/o giving up a player from your ML roster is a plus. If the Sox can get this turned around, Shields may solve the 4th starter spot which is critical especially since they have struggled through Round 1 of playing Central Division teams. He was an ace not that long ago so maybe he can be a solid 4th starter for at least this year.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) I would be proud of the front office if they fired Robin. I'll believe it when I see it. I didn't realize he pitched today. I thought Sale was scheduled.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) l the old adage is that you dont trade good pitching for hitting another old adage is you trade from your strength.
  18. QUOTE (Green Line @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) Great way to start off June. This team can win the division. It was a horrible, horrible May but we're not out of it yet, despite Robins best efforts otherwise. Robin did a great job w the bullpen today. 8 scoreless innings. Also great call letting Albers hit rather than pinch hit or even pinch run for him .
  19. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 30, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) There is certainly a lot of truth in what you say but there still appears to be questions in the minds of a lot of Sox fans how much real power Hahn has. He takes his orders too remember. I'd be more willing to put more "blame" on Rick if Kenny and his ego weren't around. Since they still are I simply don't know if it is totally fair to put a lot of blame on him yet. Mark Mark: I agree. I say Hahn because he should be making the roster decisions. But if that is not the case, then Kenny should go rather than Hahn. Posters complain about Robin but he can only play the 25 on the roster. The overall roster looks like a .500 team
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 30, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) We need to dump the trash. Rollins, Avila, Sands... basically the players that bring nothing to the table. Get some new blood, call someone up. Make a trade. Fire the manager. Do something. I agree but nor right away. I was not a fan of the Robin hiring but firing him would not solve the problem. I think the roster is a .500 team. But first step I think Robin should go quickly so they can give Renteria a chance to show what he can do over the rest of the season. Second step w Renteria's input is to clean out some dead wood like the group you mention. That way he gets some input on his roster. Third step is to add a LH bat and a SP but again w some input from Renteria. Everyone is blaming Robin and he gets some blame. But Hahn does as well since the bench is awful and there are still holes in the everyday lineup and bullpen.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 30, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Bad call by umpire in that k Two umpires and color man said the opposite.
  22. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 29, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) it was always dumb to name hahn gm and not have him bring in his own guys. Even the mariners figured that one out. This isn't a bad team. This is a solid team that is mostly poorly managed both tactical and leadership wise. What is a solid team??? Go back and look at the preseason win predictions. Many posters thought this was a .500 team up to 3-4 over. At this point they may be that despite the great start and now the May swoon. Robin aside, the roster is very average w a couple of stud pitchers and probably the weakest bench in baseball.
  23. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 29, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) Name one stat that points to 2005 being anything more than an anomaly. White Sox led the AL in ERA and saves and complete games pitched. They had the best pitching in the AL.
  24. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 29, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) Someone at another Sox site figured this out. Unbelievable. On Friday, when the Sox led 5-1 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, they had a 93.8% chance of winning the game. On Saturday, when the Sox led 7-1 with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, they had a 99.9% chance of winning the game. On Sunday, when the Sox led 4-2 with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th, they had an 88.4% chance of winning the game. The probability of losing all 3 of those games is .0007%, or about 1 in 142,857. Simply incredible....and pathetic. Mark Or someone is on the take.....................
  25. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 29, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) I actually like Robertson, but again, Robin should know better than to put a closer in a non save situation. That's also on him. And then watching as he rotted on the vine to blow a massive lead. Yeah, he should have brought Jones in yesterday. Oh wait, seeing him today that wouldn't have worked. Putnam, no he pitched 2 innings yesterday. He should have closed w Kahnle...............no he didn't get it done yesterday. Damn Avi was available. He should have got a shot.
