  1. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) It's really easy to criticize Ozzie for what he did as a manager when he made a mistake. The truth is, what made him great is he took credit for his decisions. I miss that. I miss having a manager, too. What made him great was he won the only World Series in almost every living White Sox fan's lifetime. Not many of us can wait another 88 years.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) I would take a look at Tyler at 2b. He has played that position before. His bat and his defense might be a fit for 2b. Then you target 3b for a guy with pop. We need offense at some place. I would play Tyler at 2b over the other internal options. I agree but I would not switch this season. Sanchez's average is trending up and Saladino's is trending down. With each of them playing regularly, the Sox should get an idea of how their offense looks by Sept. I think each will settle around .240 hitters but Sanchez will be the better fielder and Saladino will have a little more speed and pop. Agree both cannot play regularly next year based on their offense so far.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) The team's lease on the ballpark runs through 2029. Between the deal with the TV network and the sweetheart deals that the ownership group got for the ballpark, including the revenue from parking, they're going to be in Chicago at least until that point. That's so far in the future it's impossible to predict how things will evolve in terms of financing options for new buildings, growth in other parts of the country, etc. 5 years ago no one would have predicted the kind of insane TV money deals that are commonplace now, just to show how rapidly the economics are changing. But Havana businessmen will want to buy a team and move it to Cuba where they will all get many sweetheart deals. Their attendance will boom.
  4. I think a factor in the Anderson discussion is his ultimate position. A SS with his offensive tools is a real asset as long as his defense is at least average. But if he ultimately is forced to play 2nd where you already have a few options w limitations ( Sanchez w the bat and Micah w the glove) the value drops.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Good job by Avi there. Having good at-bats (regardless of outcome) is not something he does often. With how much he has been struggling, he had to really feel the heat in that AB considering the two IBB in front of him. I figured he'd be ultra-aggressive trying to end the thing but he had a good smart at bat where he laid off a couple of close pitches. Great game by Avi. 4 RBI and an outfield assist. He gets the 1st Star
  6. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) 90 minutes before the deadline from what I read. Plus teams normally have potential trades set up beforehand contingent on other moves. According to attached, they made the valencia decision Friday night. http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/201...el-carrera.html
  7. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Surely they could have contacted the A's Friday afternoon after they got Revere and worked out a trade. No they couldn't. The Revere trade did not get finalized until close to the deadline.
  8. Rays are an awful road team and just struggled against Boston. We should sweep them.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance Still 26th. On the plus side, we are right on the heels of the Phillies, who also must have bandwagon fans because they won the World Series more recently than the last time we were in the playoffs. Bigger market.
  10. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:47 PM) Saladino has not been bad... But he is a placeholder. We eventually need a run producer at 3rd especailly based on 2nd and SS. Saladino and Sanchez can fight out 2nd next year in ST. They both look more like .240 ML hitters w a good to very good glove
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) It's really that simple. The White Sox had one tradeable piece. If they didn't get the right offer for Shark, than I'm glad they didn't move him. But it is ironic. The guys rumored to be available like Kazmir, Cueto, Hamels and Price all ended up getting moved. So those teams found the right offer but the Sox didn't. I don't think the Sox really wanted to trade Shark unless they got knocked off their feet. That is okay since I actually think the FO thinks they are still in contention. But come October, if they don't at least get a wildcard and Shark walks for a comp pick, then they made a bad decision.
  12. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:20 PM) I'll take him as a fourth or fifth starter. Sure, he's overpaid, but there's no cap, so meh. 4 or 5??? After the Sale and Rodon starts this week, Danks is ace material until at least his next start.
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) Man I can't wait for the day they give up on this dude. Hopefully it's doesn't take as long as Viciedo. Actually they haven't gave up on Viciedo yet.........................
  14. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) We still need a power hitting right fielder. Supposedly they really wanted DeAza but the Red Sox would not trade him.
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Pick up Valencia and problem solved. Not the optimum bat...but pretty decent. Could be a win win.... Agree. Now if they figured yesterday that guys like Valencia would be available as soon as today, then it makes sense they held off yesterday. But they may pass on Valancia and wait for Trout's name to pop up.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I was at the game, that inning was the ONLY thing that made the night not a total waste. I still think the Sox owe me back my money for that completely terrible performance. They at least owe me back the f-ing premium you pay because they were playing the Yankmees. If you think about it, the Yankees looked like a premium team so you got to see what you paid for...........................
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) i like it. i would shelf sale for the season, if beck was in any condition. time to see how the pitchers performed in aug. some can say, it is a trail run for the majors pitching or another spring training session or something wittier than that. I wouldn't shelve Sale, I would just try and get him some extra days of rest. Rodon also may need some extra rest as this is his first full season. Bit is also gives an extended view of EJ not a few starts against some teams who may also be out of the race and playing their AAA players in sept.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 03:01 AM) I mentioned this in the gamethread but nobody seemed on board. "He needs the experience" I think was the argument for him staying up here. He has way too much to work and I think it would be best for him to do it in AAA. Similar to Micah Johnson, he could hit but really needed to work on his fielding. Rodon has the stuff but doesn't have the command at all. Erik Johnson has IMO is back to the form we were all excited about last year so I would rather bring him up and see if we have something for the future. Knowing where he is at will help determine what we need to do in the off-season regarding starting pitching. I am not sure if Rodon is better working at ML level or minors. But I agree Johnson needs to get some experience pitching in August games which most likely will have more significance than September after call-ups. I heard Boston was condsidering going to a 6 man rotation in order to see more of their young pitchers. That might be a way to get Rodon and Sale some extra rest and still get a better evaluation on EJ. I think Danks is still their # 5 next year so I am not convinced they want to move him.
  19. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) I'm not sure that standing pat at the deadline was the best move, but it was what I expected. I don't think the return for Shark would have been as good as what the Tigers got for Price either. At the end of the day, the Sox can move Shark in August (unlikely), take the comp pick when he walks this offseason or sign him to a new deal. The best move? I'd say let him walk and take the pick. What I'm upset about is that they have Danks and LaRoche under contract for next year and they'll have to play them. What really sucks is that the free agent market for 2016 isn't that great considering they won't go after Price or Cueto and a lot of guys that are noteworthy are in their early to mid-thirties. At least it will be exciting to see how Hahn will improve the roster with a lot of guys under contract for the next two years. It would be awesome if they could get a new SS, (I know that Anderson is in the wings), catcher (Matt Wieters is a free agent) and make Saladino the every day third baseman (if he keeps this level of play up). Not sure what level of play that is. You have to get power production from 3B especially since you are not getting much from 2B and SS. I think they have to see for 2B is it Sanchez or Saladino. Both are probably sub .250 hitters w good gloves and no power. One can start and one be the backup infielder.
  20. "We were aggressive on multiple fronts. Ultimately costs did not justify the return." -- Rick Hahn Obviously Hahn can't tell us fans everything. Does this really mean: Jr said make any move I want but don't spend any more money. OR I had a perfect trade but Kenny never called me back. OR Damn, I though the deadline was tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox 3m3 minutes ago "We were aggressive on multiple fronts. Ultimately costs did not justify the return." -- Rick Hahn I also consider the FO effort a failure. Maybe you don't move Shark. I agree not trading their top 5 prospects so that the farm has some pieces. But doing nothing tells me they may have only tried for a big splash and failed. I am disappointed they did not at least add a couple of minor pieces to bolster the bench. The bench is still Beckham and Boni( if his ribs are healed). What happens when the first starter gets hurt. We all held our breath when Abreu got hit on the wrist and Sale took a liner off the leg. Luckily only Boni actually went out w an injury. They certainly could have upgraded Beckham and Boni w/o giving up key pieces. Johnson in the minors gives some protection to the rotation but the offense could have used a lesser bat than the big names to add some flexibilty. For example , if an outfielder goes out for a few weeks, I think Shuck every day is a drop off and I don't think Charlotte has an answer.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) I am disappointed Kenny Williams isn't the GM anymore. You know he would have made a move. According to ESPN Kenny tried selling Hahn but the asking price was too high.
  23. QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) I really like us to see if we can get Carlos Gonzalez. I really think he will be the best bat available this upcoming offseason. We might as well make a run at him now. They will probably want Q ...........................I would pass.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) Melky can play RF. He's played 100+ games over there. It's not as different from LF as you'd think. Most of those 100 games were when he was young. He has played less than 25 the last 5 years. Right field tends to be harder for a left handed outfielder.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 5m5 minutes ago With Padres rumored to be on verge of selling explosion, interesting to note Will Middlebrooks removed from AAA game. Middlebrooks and Upton? UGGGH Middlebrooks is Gillaspie with more pop
