  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) Buying a bat. Can't change your mind because of one rainy s***ty game facing a knuckleballer. Some day Wright will be telling his grandchildren about the night he outpitched Chris Sale.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) We're used to s***ty play so it's normal. I'd rather have Cespedes depending on the deal obviously. Where does Cespedes play???? Melky has very limited experience in RF. Now if you can trade LaRoche for Cespesdes it would work in that Melky goes to DH. But no way that happens. The Tigers will want a young pitcher. cespedes is also a below average fielder although he has a great arm
  3. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) 7pm cst first pitch But it looks like more rain could be coming from the west.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) All I know is he's listed as a LF/RF in MLB The Show, and he's the right fielder in my fantasy draft franchise and he does ok Played it when younger but very few times last 5 years.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) He didn't say anything about moving Garcia. Cespedes refused to play RF for Boston and Detroit. why would we trade Avi for him???
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Damn, just looking at that lineup and imaging Cespedes in it for LaRoche is great... (if you don't know what I'm talking about then go to Trade Winds) Cespedes is a leftfielder. Canon of an arm but erratic outfielder. He has very limited DH appearances. So you probably would have to play him in left and move Melky to DH.
  7. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) It would be cool if they could snag Lawrie and Reddick, shift Saladino to 1st as heir apparent to SS next season and dump LaRoche somewhere. Lawrie may be worse than Conor was playing 3rd
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) Steven Wright is pitching for Boston? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...Wright_1994.jpg Knuckleballer who Swihart couldn't handle last start. Guessing Hanigan will have to start. White Sox should have fun taking extra bases on errant pitches.
  9. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) i hope i don't break the streak. i am going my first Sox game of the year tonight. its my first trip to oston ever. Figured may as well see the Sox as my first game at Fenway Make sure you get a good meal outside the stadium as well. Boston has outstanding food.
  10. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:20 PM) Shark isn't going anywhere, gents. This team is 2 games away from .500 baseball, playing dominant & could be 3.5 games out of a WC in less than an hour. May be time to start talking about who they could add. If Boni is out for a period of time this season is toast..................................BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL IN AISLE ONE
  11. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Love every bit of this. Danks in pen sounds great. But getting LaRoche out of the lineup sounds even better. One big remainder though, how on earth do we get Alexei out of the lineup? Can Sanchez at short and Micah try second again? Can we just stomach Gordo at short? I can't watch Alexei anymore. He is the worst hitter maybe ever. Maybe Gordo is worse. He is sub .200
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) Could it be a tactic to try to get more? or less if he has a bad outing. Or nothing if he gets hurt.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) Yep. Always tough to project a trade of a bad contract guy. He's likely going nowhere..but I do like the idea. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a better option than the Dodgers with Ethier and Crawford. Not sure anyone else would take Danks for their worst contract in a 1-1 trade. Maybe Boston since I doubt Danks would block them with his no-trade. They have a few contracts they regret as well.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) I do like the bad contract swap idea. Danks has been pitching better, but I still think this team is better off with EJ in the 5 spot - so if you can get a bat for him, let's do it. At this point, I'd just be fine with giving Micah Johnson ABs at DH. He'd be a HUGE upgrade to what we're getting there now. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Just DL LaRoche, or keep him on the bench for a late inning PH role..he's worthless right now. Tough to project trading Danks by fans since we don't know all the details of his no-trade clause. But I think it is realiistic to assume Toronto is part of the no-trade. Dodgers may be okay.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) I'm still not disappointed in the Melky or Robertson moves. To be honest, I haven't been too disappointed with Melky at all this year, despite the numbers. For most of the year, he's continued to have profession at bats, which is something we sorely lack. Robertson, despite some extremely untimely big hits given up, has been pretty much all that one could ask for. Not quite sure why some are wanting to give up on him already. The LaRoche move is the one I didn't like. FWIW---- Melky is 6th in AL in game winning RBI w 9. Abreu has only 3.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Watch it be Samardzija/Danks/Putnam for Barnes, Ethier and A ball pitcher. Edit: this should have been posted in the crazy trades thread. I think Shark goes to Blue Jays so that package doesn't work. I would assume Dank's no trade blocks Toronto.
  17. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) Reality is that the Sox will get one decent prospect, and not a team's top 5, maybe not even top 10 within an organziation. That's not to say a 3B prospect couldnt't be a piece the White Sox eventually need, but there are no blue chips or sure things coming back; they should have seen the market for starting pitching and the reality of their own situation back in June or early July. What are you basing that on???. Boston got Baltimore's 3rd for Andrew Miller last season for a 2 month rental. I think we get a 3-5 and a 15-20.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) Montas was scheduled to start in AA tonight...he has since been scratched. BlackSox suggests it may be to replace Johnson in AAA, who will replace Shark. Sounds reasonable. or they are packaging Johnson and Montas in a trade................................................
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) If this team were to want to upgrade to win this year, that's the most obvious position where an upgrade is possible without giving up a huge ransom. I fully agree with you this is a lost season, but then again I would not have done anything this franchise did coming into this year, so until they actually make a move I think is quality I'll continue assuming they'll do things I would judge to be mostly dumb. Also, if you're deciding what you're doing with Avi based on this season alone, the answer is probably going to be to non-tender him. He needs, IMO, at least a full offseason to completely revamp his approach at the plate and his swing if he's going to turn into something decent, he's shown zero signs of improvement this year and nothing he's done would even make him a decent DH. If you're deciding where he goes based on this season it's to the same place viciedo went, someone else's minor leagues. The real question is whether you're willing to play him another full season next year and accept that playing him another full season = a legit rebuilding year. I do think 2016 is a rebuilding year and 2017 is the year you hope to contend. Even if they trade Q, Shark and LaRoche between now and the start of spring training, the players they acquire will most likely need a year in AAA or play in ML but learning as they go. I would think next year would also be a year we see Johnson and Rodon evolve as well.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) What available bats are a good fit for this team and actually available? I can't think of an available catcher who would be a big enough difference maker to motivate the Sox to make a deal. AJ's having a solid season and you could slot him in next to HGeovannyH for an upgrade. Stephen Vogt having a solid season for the A's but since he's controlled through 2019 that's a huge price. Lucroy tops the list but huge price again and he's having a down year. Are we willing to spend Anderson + more to get Lucroy or Vogt? 3b Todd Frazier is the obvious upgrade, but that's a defensive downgrade and another huge price. That'd again have to be Anderson + probably more than 1 of our minor league pitchers. They're not benching LaRoche, they're not benching Abreu, 2b we could make an upgrade but not likely a major bat available since it's 2b (you want to take on Cano's contract?). They're not benching Eaton, Cabrera is never going to live up to his contract since he's a terrible defender but he's hitting well lately so even if you try to upgrade him you might not get big results. The place where you could find someone cheaply, where there are guys who are free agents at the end of the year that might not cost Anderson, is right field. You'd still pay for a guy like Upton, you'd pay less for a guy like Marlon Byrd but get less of an upgrade, but are they ready to send Avi back to AAA? So to get a real upgrade it's either benching someone with a big contract, sending Avi down and replacing him, or going all in and trading Anderson + Montas + more for a major investment. Why would you send Avi down??? He is not blocking anyone ready to come up from AAA. At that same time, it is not like he is not getting to play at the ML level and just sitting on the bench. This is a lost season and ultimately losses are better than wins for the next draft. Avi won't learn anything in AAA that he can't learn in the majors. By the end of this season you can decide if he can play RF or is he destined to be a DH( and do the Sox want him in that role).
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) you know. if the sox does deal with puig, this would definitely add another superstar personality to the team..... great or season tickets and corp sponsorship money. also this might add a spark to the team. however the holes needs to be mended. Not sure I agree. Sox added Abreu last year who had a big year but I don't think it had a major impact on this year's season ticket sales.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) He was the 10th best pitcher in baseball last year. 20th this year with a historically bad defense. If they aren't paying up for him, they don't get him. I assume they trade Shark. I think you trade Q in the offseason where more teams are looking to trade. That would give them the chance to see how Johnson performs in the rotation. It also gives you probably another month to see Rodon and it gives them more time to see Fulmer. then the FO can make a decision if they have enough pitching to trade Q.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) You can't really say he struck out with the Eaton and Garcia deals..... Eaton had a great year last year offensively and defensively. This year, just like the whole team, a down year. Book doesn't end on this deal. In this deal, we gave up Hector Santiago who was brutal last year but this year is pretty good. Works both ways. First off, the Garcia deal is the Peavy deal in which we were never going to resign. This deal will probably produce 3 MLB players with an outside chance at a 4th. The Davidson/Reed deal. Hasn't worked out for either team. Let's not forget, the Red Sox offered Iglesias, the White Sox declined and swapped Avi for Iglesias. In hindsight, Iglesias is a lot more valuable than Avi so far.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) The Astros are without a doubt the most sabermetrical team in baseball. So if you're a saber guy, and knowing how thin catching is league-wide, and they trade him for a rental, wouldn't it make you think they aren't very high on him? I see another conclusion. Not sure if the Astros are more sabermetric than the Red Sox since they hired Bill James. When the Red Sox traded for Peavy, they gave some pretty good prospects in Iglesias and Montas. But their FO said they felt Peavy would put them in a position to win a World Series. I don't think Peavy had a major impact but they won a World Series. Maybe the Astros feel Kazmir is the piece to put them over the top and like the Red Sox are willing to part with their prospects to do so.
  25. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) Danks OK thru 3. He is our ace these days
