  1. QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 11:06 PM) Unfortunately, the list probably requires ex-White Sox players to be on it; I'd hope whoever the next manager is, should they move on, is somebody who advocates statistical metrics (defensive shifts, creativity within the lineup, reduced bunting, etc.), but it probably doesn't matter who the manager is until the minor league system is able to produce major league players (they have done well with pitchers, but now need hitters to start come through) that can make an impact at the major league level. Remember Sale Rodon and Q are not really products of the minor league system. All three spent very little time being developed in the White Sox minor league. Webb did and hopefully a few more are in the pipeline.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 02:53 AM) What is with that awful swing Saladino takes on high pitches? Great post! I've noticed that as well. It's sickening. It looks like Sanchez( .233 ) make catch Saladino ( .240) in a few days.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Anywho, F*** tonight. 10-11 now for this team since the AS break and 2-6 since Rick Hahn said "if we keep playing like this we'll be right there at the end." 7-1 against teams that have quit and 3-10 against teams that haven't. Congrats on your success and I hope you are judged on it Ricky. It's 100% what you asked for. I disagree with your quit analysis. You are counting Tampa as a team that has not quit and Boston that has. But Boston just went into Tampa and took 2 of 3. KC lost 2 of 3 to the Tigers coming into this series. Teams are basically up and down with the good teams having more ups and the bad teams having more downs. I am not sure the White Sox would beat the KC AAA team. They just own us.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) I think we're really grasping at straws to find reasons to keep Ventura as manager. His time as manager has been a disaster. The team was ill-prepared coming out of spring training. We saw it. He's managed a team that folded in a weak division in 2012. He's had teams that did quit--2013. 99 losses? C'mon. I'm hoping that with his career earnings and relationship with Reinsdorf and the organization, he'll step aside as manager and be "reassigned within the organization". It's time for a change, and really, there's no good reason to argue this point anymore. I think Robin and staff should be replaced. I agree the team started poorly in April. But you say they were ill-prepared. Sale was hurt and Melky, Eaton and LaRoche had lousy months. How should Robin have gotten those 3 better prepared??? They are veteran players. The defense , especially, Johnson was bad. But that is on Hahn not Robin. The defense has been much better since they added Sanchez and Saladino but again that to me is on Hahn for going into this season w Micah and Conor as the incumbent infielders. I think Hahn gave Robin a flawed team in several areas, several veterans did not produce and Robin and staff are not able to react to correct players who are struggling. Take Melky. He stunk for several months and he has been on fire lately. Is Robin responsible for his slow start??? Is Robin the reason he is now on fire??? I would say Melky was in a slump and worked his way out of it.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Is he highly thought of in baseball? I'd prefer somebody who has managed another team. I agree. That combo would be fine with me. Ten years of Dombrowski would be a good way for him to end his career. I'd take it. Excellent take. But there's always the do nothing front office job. Make him a community spokesperson or something. Robin is no dummy. He has to know his performance has been really poor. This team has had some "name" baseball players who have sucked sucked sucked in his tenure and the last couple years of Ozzeroo. His teams have done nothing. We're not even sniffing the playoffs. I officially want Robin out BTW. Nothing will make me change my mind. I'm totally sick of the White Sox 2015 season. This win four in a row lose seven of eight crap is ridiculous and a lot of it is on the manager. I've heard of roller coaster but this is ridiculous. Every little win streak ends and is followed by horrific losing streaks. Everybody knows it's going to culminate with some massive losing skein at some point in September that sends this team finally about 20 under. Please get us a real manager for next season. To those Robin supporters answer this honestly: Do you want this guy taking us onto the field next April?? The chance of this bulls*** happening all over again is REAL! Greg: I agree Robin should go. In fact, i thought his hire was a mistake. But look at how well the team played just before the All Star break. Why??? Melky, Eaton, Abreu all got hot. Plus the arrival of Sanchez and Saladino settled the defense. then after the break they nose-dived. Why?? Rodon and Sale had back to back poor performances and Shark and Danks were good and bad. Robin needs to go if only for a change in the clubhouse. But manager's success is usually determined by player success. Boston fans are wrestling w John Farrell's fate. First year in Boston he wins a World Series and the next 2 years are a disaster. Did he forget how to manage???
  6. QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) Saladino is a rookie who is literally overwhelmed right now at the plate. People forget just how much there is to learn first time around, against every new pitcher, in each different game situation, every new ballpark for young hitters. Enormous amounts, the big city lights, tv broadcast, is nothing like ever faced before. So screw-ups are expected. so yeah, T-Salad (see what I did there!) will be fine longer=term as his swing profile, temperament, and versatility are compatible with ML success. Temper expectations for now. OTOH, what's the excuse of Sox veterans like Anorexei, LaRoche, Garcia, Eaton, Cabrera, Flowers who been stealing money for most of the year. I agree he is struggling but I am not sure your reasoning is correct. He was not overwhelmed when he arrived because he immediately hit close to .300 for his first 8-10 games. Then he started struggling and now he is really overwhelmed. That may be a sign he has a major weakness and word gets out quickly. He was a .280 hitter for 3 years in AAA w very little power. it looks like Sanchez has the same game w a better glove. I think one will be the reserve inielder next year and the other will disappear.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Random, but this is Bleacher Report's top ten lefty starters Hector Santiago over Sale any day! You should have clarified. This is their top ten lefties this season based on performance through 8/1/15
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) CF Eaton 3b Saladino 1B Abreu LF Cabrera RF Garcia DH Laroche SS Ramirez 2B Sanchez C Flowers P Danks Does Thompson have a minor injury???
  9. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) It's really easy to criticize Ozzie for what he did as a manager when he made a mistake. The truth is, what made him great is he took credit for his decisions. I miss that. I miss having a manager, too. What made him great was he won the only World Series in almost every living White Sox fan's lifetime. Not many of us can wait another 88 years.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) I would take a look at Tyler at 2b. He has played that position before. His bat and his defense might be a fit for 2b. Then you target 3b for a guy with pop. We need offense at some place. I would play Tyler at 2b over the other internal options. I agree but I would not switch this season. Sanchez's average is trending up and Saladino's is trending down. With each of them playing regularly, the Sox should get an idea of how their offense looks by Sept. I think each will settle around .240 hitters but Sanchez will be the better fielder and Saladino will have a little more speed and pop. Agree both cannot play regularly next year based on their offense so far.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) The team's lease on the ballpark runs through 2029. Between the deal with the TV network and the sweetheart deals that the ownership group got for the ballpark, including the revenue from parking, they're going to be in Chicago at least until that point. That's so far in the future it's impossible to predict how things will evolve in terms of financing options for new buildings, growth in other parts of the country, etc. 5 years ago no one would have predicted the kind of insane TV money deals that are commonplace now, just to show how rapidly the economics are changing. But Havana businessmen will want to buy a team and move it to Cuba where they will all get many sweetheart deals. Their attendance will boom.
  12. I think a factor in the Anderson discussion is his ultimate position. A SS with his offensive tools is a real asset as long as his defense is at least average. But if he ultimately is forced to play 2nd where you already have a few options w limitations ( Sanchez w the bat and Micah w the glove) the value drops.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Good job by Avi there. Having good at-bats (regardless of outcome) is not something he does often. With how much he has been struggling, he had to really feel the heat in that AB considering the two IBB in front of him. I figured he'd be ultra-aggressive trying to end the thing but he had a good smart at bat where he laid off a couple of close pitches. Great game by Avi. 4 RBI and an outfield assist. He gets the 1st Star
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) 90 minutes before the deadline from what I read. Plus teams normally have potential trades set up beforehand contingent on other moves. According to attached, they made the valencia decision Friday night. http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/201...el-carrera.html
  15. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Surely they could have contacted the A's Friday afternoon after they got Revere and worked out a trade. No they couldn't. The Revere trade did not get finalized until close to the deadline.
  16. Rays are an awful road team and just struggled against Boston. We should sweep them.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance Still 26th. On the plus side, we are right on the heels of the Phillies, who also must have bandwagon fans because they won the World Series more recently than the last time we were in the playoffs. Bigger market.
  18. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:47 PM) Saladino has not been bad... But he is a placeholder. We eventually need a run producer at 3rd especailly based on 2nd and SS. Saladino and Sanchez can fight out 2nd next year in ST. They both look more like .240 ML hitters w a good to very good glove
  19. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) It's really that simple. The White Sox had one tradeable piece. If they didn't get the right offer for Shark, than I'm glad they didn't move him. But it is ironic. The guys rumored to be available like Kazmir, Cueto, Hamels and Price all ended up getting moved. So those teams found the right offer but the Sox didn't. I don't think the Sox really wanted to trade Shark unless they got knocked off their feet. That is okay since I actually think the FO thinks they are still in contention. But come October, if they don't at least get a wildcard and Shark walks for a comp pick, then they made a bad decision.
  20. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:20 PM) I'll take him as a fourth or fifth starter. Sure, he's overpaid, but there's no cap, so meh. 4 or 5??? After the Sale and Rodon starts this week, Danks is ace material until at least his next start.
  21. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) Man I can't wait for the day they give up on this dude. Hopefully it's doesn't take as long as Viciedo. Actually they haven't gave up on Viciedo yet.........................
  22. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) We still need a power hitting right fielder. Supposedly they really wanted DeAza but the Red Sox would not trade him.
  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Pick up Valencia and problem solved. Not the optimum bat...but pretty decent. Could be a win win.... Agree. Now if they figured yesterday that guys like Valencia would be available as soon as today, then it makes sense they held off yesterday. But they may pass on Valancia and wait for Trout's name to pop up.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I was at the game, that inning was the ONLY thing that made the night not a total waste. I still think the Sox owe me back my money for that completely terrible performance. They at least owe me back the f-ing premium you pay because they were playing the Yankmees. If you think about it, the Yankees looked like a premium team so you got to see what you paid for...........................
