It is still on but probably not for long. If they open up the games, they would have to at least do the temp check on players/coaches. Like we saw w NBA last night , some kids are going to be positive which would eliminate that team. It would be chaos. I would assume NCAA will postpone or more likely cancel the tourneys.

Probably a moot point. I doubt there will be an OD roster at this point. I would guess MLB is done until mid-summer at least.

The CDC says that only 31 percent of men and 65 percent of women wash their hands after using the bathroom I saw a similar stat several years ago and thought it must be wrong. I drive New England to Florida several times a year. I started noticing how often a guy goes right out the door from the urinal in rest stops. I am sure some have hand sanitizer in their car but now I believe the numbers are accurate. https://www.google.com/search?q=percentage+of+people+who+wash+their+hands&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS889US889&oq=percentage+of+people+who+wash+their+hands&aqs=chrome..69i57.10934j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

You had Colome "washed" last week. This is Spring "Training" not regular season.

A major key to the overall success of ST.

I thought when I saw it, RR was trying to change it up to get Yoan out of his mini slump.

It is a very common theme the last few years. Teams prefer to play the 2nd string for travel games. Very common in Florida. The 4 hour bus ride is considered non-productive except for a veteran who needs live pitching.

He is still available

I think in this baseball era, health is the major concern. We see so many starting pitchers battling problems. Spring training has opened and we will start to hear more Severino stories as the weeks go on. Going north w your intended staring 5 is the first major victory of the season.

Agree. I can't picture Holt got more than $3-4 Mil this late. Now-a days that is an order of new bats.

Brock Holt to Brewers.

I am actually in Florida so I can see many teams but not the White Sox.

I think it is great that posters offer tips to those attending ST. With the influx of spring break, snow birds and spring training fans, some ST locations can become overrun with visitors and traffic.

Not sure we should gloat over an injury. Let's hope we don't get any as camps start.
-
FWIW-- Holt has always been considered a great clubhouse guy and he has experience in pennant races and post season play.

That would be perfect. But as I stated, there is no way the owners will play less games unless they all get a cut of the playoff pie. Doubleheaders are not popular w the players union and the owners only want them if they get day/night separate admissions.
-
I am guessing the owners will not agree to a shorter regular season since there will be lost ticket revenue for the 16 who don't make it. My question would be how late does it push the World Series back. Last year it ended on 10/30. Some cities are getting cold in early November. Chicago 's high on 10/31/19 was 38.

The only way they got to trade 1/2 Price was w Mookie. According to media reports, they had been trying to trade just Price and there were no takers. There were a lot of JBJ rumors last fall so my guess is that they they would have moved JBJ if they could have traded Price. Supposedly Bett's agent wanted $420 over 12 and Boston declined. I was surprised they also resigned JDM but I guess the timing was too early in Mookie negotiations. I am sure they knew the return on a Mookie rental would be minimal and I think it was.

Dick: You would think so. But as I have posted in the past, Boston has a huge corporate season ticket base. Just about every major corporation over the 6 state region has a box or a block of seats. When I worked in New England, there were always corporate tickets offered for Red Sox games ( Yankees and a few inter-league games the exception). ABC Company is not going to drop their tickets because of Mookie. So the effect will have to be felt in the average fan tickets and the TV viewer ratings.

I disagree. John Henry is very visible during the baseball season. He is not an absentee landlord. You can bet everything DD did JH signed off on. Everthing you read is Mookie wanted to experience the FA process. Good for him. But I do wonder if Boston burned bridges or does the high bidder still get him next year.
-
I understand where you are coming from but there is another consideration. Does John Henry think the luxury tax savings offsets the loss of revenue. I think most owners rank profit ahead of winning. They know winning affects profit so they want their GM to balance the two. Red Sox are the only ticket in town(s) and their fanbase is large and loyal. I think it will be interesting to see the results. Mookie is an exceptional talent but also a box office magnet. JH took a huge gamble and hopefully it backfires big-time. But if you have $6 billion, it probably is a sputter and not a backfire.

Downs also is marked at playing second base, so Boston could have potential options in the infield. Read more at: https://nesn.com/2020/02/what-to-know-about-new-reported-red-sox-members-jeter-downs-connor-wong/

Just kidding you. I guess you never saw the story a few years ago about his wedding. It was Holywood at it's best. John Legend was the "wedding band".
