Moncada had struggles playing 3B w Boston. I think he would have to move to outfield.

I think Yankees will add Happ from Jays as their lefty addition.

It should be based on what is best for the player, not the fans or financials. If a player is ready to move up, then trying to save money for a business making millions is dumb. But bringing a player up who is not ready to sell tickets is also dumb. I remember when the Red Sox brought up Benintendi and Moncada from AA during a pennant run. Benintendi played well and still is and Moncada struggled and was even booed. One player was ready and one was not. It is not an exact science but mistakes can set a player's development back and good decisions can accelerate a player's development

Ever read Terry Francona's book? Very successful manager in Boston and Cleveland but according to Francona, GM's these days are very involved with how a manager uses players. They obviously don't make in game decisions, but they have a lot of input on how the manager goes about managing/utilizing the roster.

Most likely that is Hahn's decision to have Moncada in the leadoff spot. Why Anderson is not 2nd is strange but there must be some reason.

Based on what??? If that is true, and it may be, why isn't Anderson batting 2nd to get him as many PA's as possible?

I see the Red Sox a lot and they seem to have about a 50-60% success rate on their top rated positional players. Just my observation but Benintendi-Betts- Bogaert and Vazquez are all starters. Bradley, Swihart and Travis are all still struggling. They traded Shaw to Brewers and he is pretty solid for them. Devers and Moncada are still developing . But that is at least 10 guys in 4 years that have arrived in the majors so their farm is producing positional players and they then trade for pitching.

Hopefully it is just an adjustment, but Fry looks overcooked in July. Seems like Covey, the more he has pitched batters seem to be getting to him with more success.

Kimbrel is an elite closer. They want to go to teams that will play in October not teams that are coming off a rebuild. Not so much for the winning as the number of close opportunities. Now if you blow away the market w money, that could change things.

Many of the White Sox players come through Charlotte. That franchise has had probably 20 years of misery. I think losing culture is pretty accurate.

Dustin Pedroia is probably 5'7"--180 and he has added some pop as well as hits for average.

Robin had no more experience than Aaron Boone did and so far he seems to have "business managing a MLB club"..........................or managers don't matter, the roster is the key element.

When the White Sox played the Red Sox last month, I posted that Alex Spier of the Boston Globe was interviewed in the announcer's both during one inning. He said Moncada has had several hand injuries in his career and that there is talk it is limiting his batting especially from the right side. I wasn't aware of other hand injuries and said at the time it may have been sour grapes.

Offensively, Devers has been pretty solid and he is 2 years younger than Moncada. Devers has struggled at 3rd but unfortunately he seems to be improving there. But w 500+ ABS his OPS is over .750 and last I saw he was on track for 25HR /75RBI which is solid for a 21 year old.

I agree. I think the problem was being rated the #1 prospect. I think being a Red Sox prospect also raised his value in the eyes of "prospect raters". If we believe the "rumors" he wasn't even the Red Sox top prospect since they supposedly made him available but not Benintendi. Anderson was also raw and we see how he has developed. Streaky with good skills but erratic also. I think Moncada will be about the same and become an above average 2nd baseman. Anything beyond that is gravy.

Well Red Sox traded for Pierce so they will not be a suitor for Abreu.

The Red Sox have a decent amount of pitching. They have 4 solid starters and 3 options for the 5th. I think they will wait till All Star break and see if Pomerantz or Wright will claim the 5th spot. If neither is healthy, then maybe they would want Shields. Swihart can catch and play outfield and 1st but he is average defensively and his bat is useless. But if Hahn is interested, he could grab him and let him play everyday and see if the bat comes around when he plays regularly. He is a .234 AAA hitter w 480+ PA. A weak AAA hitter does not usually translate to succes in the majors. I think I hold Shields for a better offer but I would take a shot at Swihart if he gets DFA'd.

Offensively, he and Gurriel are having the best years of any !B, Jose is better known around the league.

When you are talking trade-deadline, the timing has a good amount to do with the value. There are less bidders at this time but some are getting desperate. Withe the way the AL is going this year, there will be a limited number of teams involved. I think to win for a team looking to unload, it will help to have a need the Yankees or Red Sox have. There will be more NL options , but then you get into more of Abreu's defense which may reduce his value w NL teams.

Heard on WEEI in Boston that there is a rumor of an Abreu for JBJ trade. Not sure what their source was as i was in and out of car during the discussion. I think Sox can get a better deal for Abreu.
