QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) Yes, however if the Sox don't ask for money, perhaps it wouldn't take much in talent, going back to the Dodgers. A couple of years at $17.5 million shouldn't break the bank. Dodgers keep getting pitching. Maybe we can swap Danks lol

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Really starting to wonder about Toronto. Bautista will be 36 in October and a FA after the '16 season. I'm thinking Toronto could sign Cespedes this year to eventually replace Bautista after '16 when Bautista becomes a FA. A move like that would allow Toronto to bring Pompei along at a slower pace and allow him another season of adjusting to the majors. Another option for Toronto would be to sign Cespedes and trade Dickey. Not sure if there is any truth to the rumor but supposedly there were a few NL teams interested in Dickey in December. Toronto is not afraid of long term contracts, has some payroll space and is competing with Boston, Baltimore and the Yanks in the ALE. I think Toronto is a team that could offer Cespedes what he's looking for. There's been numerous reports Toronto is trying to lock up Bautista and encarnacion.

there's a lot of interest/activity in cespedes. no chance he has to settle for very short deal. rare power/speed/arm combo. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/688791631957487616

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Fathom might be right...he might be wrong. The obvious problem is the White Sox are always in this same situation of bringing in almost all of their position players from other teams. Saladino is really the only homegrown (drafted/developed) starting player on the roster (and the one whose position is most tenuous). You constantly lose that huge advantage in terms of assessing your own players since you are naturally much more familiar with them...but the White Sox can't profit from this like other organizations. Therein lies the rub....everything working out perfectly in 2005 is almost impossible to replicate in today's game which places even more emphasis on developing your own core of players and then supplementing with pricey free agents. And if they don't start actually getting into the playoffs here on it it's going to get to the point of doing a fire sale on the major league side. The supposed 3 years windows ends with 2 years left on sales and Abreu's contracts. If the Sox aren't in prime position of contending then they are probably going to have to look at trading them. If the Sox are having trouble trying to give out money and years to Cespedes what's it doing to be like when we get closer to the end of sales and Abreu contracts. Do we actually see them coughing up between 25-30 million and probably at least 5 years or more for sale. Abreu will be older so can't image them coughing up money for him.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) There's been multiple people even on the MLB Network that have cited Cespedes' personal/leadership issues as well. At this point, this could be his 5th team in 5 years. It's not unrealistic to think there's an issue with him. With that being said, I still want to see the Sox lock this guy up. I never understood the whole 4 teams in 2 years thing. 2 teams weren't in contention and didn't need him so the try to get something back for him. The A's traded him to get that big game pitcher which didn't work. You could tell after the A's traded him the team wasnt the same offensively and didn't have as much energy. The Mets get him and he helps them run to the world series.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) Care to copy & paste the link? It has a paywall on it. That is the link. Unfortunately Tribune has certain articles that make you sign up or pay. If you register with them you get like 5 or 10 articles to read before having to pay

Hopefully this Cespedes crap gets over sooner then later now.

Doesn't seem like Cespedes will get 5-6 year deal from anyone. White Sox could be in good position if he's willing to drop asking price. https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/688413636390440962

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Imagine the meltdown if Cespedes signs elsewhere and the Sox do not sign anyone. The torches will light up the Chicago skyline. The comments will be funny to read so there's that. Fans will going to Sox fest to yell at the front office

Royals reach 5-year, $70 million deal with Ian Kennedy. In his career against the American League, he's 6-17 with a 5.48 ERA. https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/688386092957958144

Come on Cespedes for the rest of us

Another day going through the 5 stages of grief today over Cespedes lol.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Well, there's always Carlos Gomez, Colby Rasmus and a 37 year old Jose Bautista next year... The jays are trying to lock up Bautista.

5 weeks till Sox pitchers and catcher's report. Still got time to get Cespedes lol

Getting mixed answers on level of impatience #Orioles have with Chris Davis. But they're clearly not ready to move past him yet. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick/status/688080799351107584
-
#Orioles have discussed 5 yrs. and $17-18M per year. That provides some context on gap that would have to be bridged w/Cespedes. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick/status/688080115029426177

Clarification: Mets do not have an offer on table for Cespedes. They've shown interest at a deal less than 4-6 years & Cespedes knows this. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...076536935616512 And the tables keep turning
-
Maybe the real team laying in the weeds is the sox lol
-
to clarify, mets do NOT have a 1-year offer currently on table. theyd talk about 1-3-yr pacts if cespedes came off long deal https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/688069992970104832

The question i have is what have the Sox been doing this whole time. The need to upgrade a outfield spot and a bunch of second tier OF with not QO attached been signed and yet the Sox seem to haven't been doing anything. No rumors or anything for a couple weeks now.
-
Sources: Cespedes believed to be weighing 5/$90m w/possible option offer from O's vs. one-year deal with Mets and become a free agent again. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...062113365889024
