  1. Well done Sox FO! I'd guess Eaton goes to RF and now Avi can share LF with Melky while Melky shares the DH with LaRoche. I think Avi could become a better left fielder than what Melky currently provides. I like Dick's idea about moving Avi + reliever for another OF bat.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) Nobody on SoxTalk calls Sox ownership cheap. You can bet the house on this prediction.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) I can't be the only one it bugs to see May starting a lot of these games in CF right? https://twitter.com/cst_soxvan/status/706503044473618435 While Eaton's shoulder is recovering, I would much rather see May in CF over Fields, Sands or Shuck. May is a legit prospect and there's nothing wrong with him getting some extra playing time early in ST.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 01:24 AM) When you are hurting, baseball can't be that much fun. Wonder if he'll retire or if the $$$ is too much to turn away from. I'd guess most of us would prefer he retired but would any of us walk away from 13M? I know I wouldn't.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 11:39 PM) The White Sox eat John Danks' contract and trade for Astros OF Preston Tucker I don't know what the cost would be but man, I hope your prediction comes true!
  6. But, but, he cross trained over the winter! This simply cannot be.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) I hope that's not the big move. His PCL numbers are mediocre. I agree that his numbers are mediocre but it's his + defense and OBP potential that makes me think the Sox would be interested. Honetly, I'm not expecting a big move and its been rumored that the move the Sox make could be less than expected. To me, Aplin fits that description. Obviously I hope for more but I would rather give a guy like Aplin a chance in CF over the likes of Fields, Shuck and Sands.
  8. The Sox are rumored to be looking for a LHB that plays CF and comes with team control. Just to throw something different out there, I'm going to guess Andrew Aplin from Houston. Keep in mind, it's only guess and nothing more.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) Honestly I lost all credibility for levine. Dude can't get facts straight about baseball and yet that's the field he works in. He tweeted out when the Orioles were supposed to sign Fowler that the cubs were getting the Orioles 28 pick for compensation. Had another tweet that the cubs are getting back a second round pick for compensation for fowler signing with orioles. Kinda take things he says with a grain of salt. I'm sure the sox are still looking for an outfielder and probably a lh bat. I doubt cargo is getting moved. Seems tho the Sox are looking at whoever for the outfield can also play cf. All very good points. Well said!
  10. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Reds are rebuilding, keeping Bruce around is probably blocking some young player from making the roster. They are going to dump him, and for peanuts I would bet. I think Sox could probably land him pretty easily, and may already have the parameters of a deal worked out but are exhausting all angles on the obviously better player in CarGo before settling for Bruce. I think if the Reds were going to dump Bruce it he would be gone by now. Bruce has a '17 option so if he can get off to a good start, he would easily net the Reds a better return in July than he would right now. Any players that Bruce might be in the way of would only be for about three months which is nothing for a team that's rebuilding. Also, rebuilding teams want to maximise the returns for their players so waiting a little bit longer would make more sense for the Reds since they know they will not be competing this year anyway. As for CarGo, the Rockies have been waiting for his value to rebound since last winter when they chose not to sell low on him and gambled he would get better, which he did in '15. Now that CarGo has rebounded and the cost of outfielders went up thanks to FA signings this winter, CarGo's contract isn't bad at all. If CarGo continues his rebound in the first half of this season, the Rockies patience will pay off in July and they will get the haul they have been waiting for. As for now, CarGo isn't going anywhere. Let's keep in mind the source of these rumors, Bruce Levine.
  11. Sounds as though Roan is going by the article Levine wrote. Grain of salt...
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) Wasn't it posted here a while ago that the Rockies wanted Q but the Sox said no or something along those lines? I don't doubt that they've had interest in the offseason but that doesn't exactly mean they are trying now. Yes, Q was rumored to be the asking price for CarGo. IIRC, the rumor died pretty quick after the Rockies asking price was reported.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) Levine broke the Melky signing but I'm pretty sure KW gave him the story. I believe he broke Fowler as well. Fine, you win! Levine still sucks. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) I'm not a Levine follower but he called Lawrie to the Sox before anybody and he said we weren't even looking at Desmond which as it turns out was probably true. Thank god he was right because who wants 25 errors and 180 strikeouts from your shortstop. And what is all this Austin Jackson love. I wouldn't Touch him for any price. Go big with Cargo or Reddick or go home IMO. The way I remember it, raBBit and Slusser were the first to come out with the Sox being linked to Lawrie, not Levine. Levine wrote about it after the rumor spread on Twitter, IIRC.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) I don't follow the Chicagoland media that closely is Levine the Sox mouthpiece the same way KC Johnson is for the Bulls? Whenever the Bulls want to make something public they always leak it to KC. Levine is just a mouthpiece, period. I can't remember the last time he wrote about a rumor that actually came to fruition. I've noticed that when Levine writes about something, it's usually after another writer has written about it already.
  15. Almost forgot. As for Braun. The Brewers can keep the 32 year old Braun, his surgically repaired herniated disc and the 105M they owe him.
  16. It's a Bruce Levine article. Nothing to see here folks, move along.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Their is no way that is write. Write, you bloody well write! As for CarGo, nah, I'm not buying it. Makes more sense from a Rockies standpoint to hang onto to CarGo in hopes of an over-pay at the grade deadline. So I think Levine is grasping there. I can see the Sox having interest in Bruce though. Question is... Will the Reds hang onto Bruce in hopes of him getting off to a hot start to boost his trade value by the deadline? If I'm the Reds, that's what I would do.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) That is two true. You meen twue? Huh huh, waskowee wabbit!
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) Hahaha He also used the wrong form of the word "tail" in Frazier's quote. This guy. You mean you really can't catch a tiger by its tale? What about fairytails?
  20. http://www.outsidepitchmlb.com/jay-bruce-i...nati-reds/43851 I wouldn't be against acquiring Bruce, for the right price. Something along the lines of a mid-twenties 4A player is about as much as I'd give up. If the Reds want more, they can look for a trade partner elsewhere.
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 07:52 AM) Would be stupid, but maybe they are hoping that May can get them by until Engel hits enough to be a 4th OFer. I hope that's not the plan. This year will be May's first in AAA and Engel's first in AA. Conceivably, May could help at some point this year but Engel might not be ready until next year. We might be looking at Daniel Fields as the backup CF since he's the only true CF option the Sox have that's possibly ready to help at the MLB level. Uhhg! My brain hurts! Please Rick, find us something for CF that brings us fans some hope for the OF defense. Pretty please!
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) Well, in fairness, they had the longest streak of consecutive sellouts in the early to mid 90's at Jacobs Field of any MLB team in history (maybe the Red Sox beat it since?)...but those fans have had to go through two quite dramatic teardowns, one beginning in 2001-02 and then the other after 2007. If there is one fanbase who has suffered the most at the hands of ownership, other than the Marlins, it's pretty hard to think of one. TB and Oakland, there's not so much that can be done about those stadium situations. I see what you mean. Kind of the chicken and the egg. They need more attendance to boost revenue but their FO needs to spend more wisely too. I laughed pretty hard at Cleveland when they went for t by signing Swisher and Bourn to those contracts before the '13 season. Those two players are still Haunting the Cleveland FO today and are paying Atlanta 10M to go towards those players '16 salaries. Those two signings literally blew up in Cleveland's face from the get go. The total money wasted on those to combined with the Davis signing could have netted them one of the top outfield fre agents and made that Cleveland team pretty dangerous. Agree on the Marlins, A's and Rays. The Marlins especially, I don't know how or why they still have a fan base.
  23. Uh yeah. I just cannot see Shuck as the answer to CF. A spot start here and there is one thing but he's not the long term solution by any means and should be limited to one of the corners where his defensive abilities are better suited. Seeing more and more talk about May and I'm starting to wonder if the Sox hold off on their OF search to see how May performs in Charlotte the first few months. Not the way I'd like to see things go down but I really am starting to wonder if the Sox add another outfielder. Hopefully they do.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Cleveland is out because Brantley is coming back earlier than expected...that's all. And comparing ourselves with the Indians/Twins on spending and "feeling better" would be more palatable if the Tigers and Royals hadn't each spent $200-300 million in new money since October. Nobody said anything about comparing or feeling better. Just noting that as bad as some Sox fans feel about Sox attendance and spending, it's even worse for Cleveland fans. As a baseball fan, I feel for them. Their highest payed player makes just over 8M. The point is that Cleveland is a competitor as is and if they had more money to spend ( payroll at 90M due to being 29th in attendance in '15) , they could potentially be even more dangerous. If they had the money this winter, they could have been looking to sign one of the top FA outfielders instead of signing a guy like Davis. Also, just because the Tigers and Royals spent alot of money doesn't guarantee them winning the division.
  25. Wow, Cleveland is hurting. The rest of the ALC is lucky that Indians fans aren't going to ball games (29th in attendance in 2015) or Cleveland would have an even better team than they currently do. And I though things were bad for the Sox...
