QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) Peter Gammons @pgammo 5h5 hours ago Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson to have tests on back http://fw.to/irPSTya . Looking at the problems the Dodgers have with keeping pitchers healthy ( excluding Kershaw) makes me appreciate the Sox staff that much more.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) And I would rather have him playing every day in Charlotte, versus once a week in Chicago. Exactly. We all know he can field 2B so I'm wondering if the Sox will put Davidson at 1B/DH from time to time so that Sanchez can gain some experience playing 3B. I kind of doubt Sanchez has the arm for playing the left side of the infield but I could be wrong.

f*** yeah to White Sox Baseball! About time! -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) He is an asset. If he isn't going to be starting, he still is needed as depth unless he is going to get us someone better. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) He's young enough to justify going back down and can still get every day at bats down there. He's fine going back. Agree with you both. As long as Rollins, Saladino, Frazier and Lawrie are healthy, there's no playing time for Sanchez at the MLB level. The Sox can get Sanchez every day playing time down in Charlotte. Better to stash Sanchez there for the time being and fall back on him as the assert that he is instead of trading him and possibly needing to fall back on Leury Garcia. If a team wants to give + value for Sanchez in a trade that's fine but as of right now, Sanchez is probably more valuable to the Sox than he is to another team. A 23 year old switch hitter with + defense and range is an asset worth keeping.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) They can have my f***ing cardboard box for free. I might be interested, what are your neighbors like? Don't the Klopeks live next door to you?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) So Rollins is a teaching assistant? Sounds like he could be getting setup for a coaching job after this year. Teaching assistant is kind of an understatement, I was thinking the White Sox scholastic headmaster of infielders. With Rollins accomplishments over his career and the way he carries himself, I think he would be a great addition to the coaching staff. It would not surprise me at all if the Sox bring Rollins aboard after Rollins hangs up his cletes.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) At this point, you sort of have to assume the Sox want to give Avi everyday at bats in RF. Otherwise someone would have been signed by now. I'm sure they will give Avi every chance possible but I still believe they are looking for a LH OF bat. Well, according to Hahn anyway. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) March 23rd. Are you willing to bet the house on March 23?

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Judging by twitter, the Orioles might need another outfielder after Trumbo misplayed a few balls in RF today. Crazy how quiet things are with regards to the Sox and another outfielder. I'm starting to think we may not see an addition until towards the end of ST when teams such as Houston, Tampa and Oakland have a better idea of who they want to keep for their 25 man roster.

http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/165...pitch-variation Looks to me like the Rollins signing is already paying off with the youngsters.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) Yeah probably Sands assuming they don't bring in a bench bat somehow I guess. I still think Raburn would be perfect to split time with LaRoche. Mashes lefties and we wouldn't have to face him. I'm not against the Raburn idea but given his age and that the Sox already have Sands I'm guessing the Sox would roll with Sands instead of signing Raburn. Raburn would make a great platoon partner for LaRoche though. I like that Raburn can draw some walks too. VS. LHP Raburn could play RF with Avi at DH and VS. RHP LaRoche DH's with Avi (gulp) in RF. Screw it, sign Raburn and drop Olt!

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 07:37 AM) I don't know if he'll make it. The 25th spot will likely go to a platoon guy with LaRoche assuming there are no major additions. I take it you're thinking Sands then? Definitely possible at this point. I'm thinking Fields is possible if he can somehow hit as well or better than Shuck in ST. Fields is a much better option, defensively speaking, as a backup to CF. Shuck wasn't very good in CF last year and is much better at the corners. I'm on the fence really, Shuck has a better bat and plate discipline than Fields but Fields has the better defense.
-
For now, my main concern is if the Sox feel that Fields could be a quality backup to CF and end up not bringing in another OF bat. Fields defense as a backup to CF is a good thing but it's his bat that makes me wonder. If Fields could hit just a little he could serve as a nice place holder to CF backup until May, hopefully, shows he's ready to take that spot. Still yet, I cling to hope that Hahn is able to bring in another bat for CF.

I agree with everyone else. The Sox have control of Frazier through the '17 season so let's see how Frazier performs this year and if the Sox and Frazier see each as a long term fit for the future, they can take care of an extension at some point next off season. It's a good sign that Frazier is open to the idea though. I'm hopefing for the same with Lawrie as well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 06:06 PM) I think it is pretty common. Not necessarily because of aging, just maybe incompetence at 3B. Some with White Sox ties Dick Allen, Jim Thome, Paul Konerko. I would guess a good percentage of RH first baseman started their professional careers at a different position. Add Texeira, Giambi, Bagwell, McGwire and Edgar Martinez to that list. 1B should be an easier position to play since there's less throwing and less bunts down the first base line than the third base line. I think the biggest hurdle for the third to first conversion is handling throws from the rest of the infielders. Frazier is listed at 6'3" so he should be a big enough target and I think he could handle throws from the infielders.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Deadspin @Deadspin 3h3 hours ago VIDEO: Brewers minor leaguer can't stop his ridiculous laugh. http://deadsp.in/99IoROt I was in tears listening to Brett Phillips laugh lolol That's awesome! Way to go Phillips. Imagine his laugh after he's had a few beers.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) Sox brass might want to see how Trey M does in Birmingham before making a decision on Frazier. Not necessarily. I think as Frazier ages he will eventually become a first baseman and should provide a good glove, plus range and good power for the position. LaRoche is gone after '16 and Abreu could move into the DH slot. If Trey isn't ready, Lawrie could play 3B next year and use Sanchez/Saladino at 2B with hopefully Anderson at SS.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) I hope Lawrie turns out to be better than "BAD" at 2B. I think he has it in him to be average to slightly above average with the glove. He was considered a great defensive 3B early in his career. Agreed and in defense of Lawrie, Oakland did bounce him around a bit so the Sox keeping Lawrie at 2B should allow him to become better, to some degree. I think Lawrie has enough quickness to play the position and more than enough arm strength so there's potential for growth at the position. I watched a few highlights of Lawrie last season in Oakland and showed the ability to make some nice plays at 2nd. I really believe the IF defense is going to be good overall. As for the OF, I'm with Eminor. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot fool myself into thinking the OF defense will improve without another addition. I try not to be pessimistic about the overall team but the OF defense is a very deep and dark rabbit hole. The optimist in me still believes Hahn will add, hopefully that comes true.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) Why? It's baseball. Doesn't matter who's playing. Baseball is starting and it's a glorious thing. Yes! I miss Baseball so much during the long boring winter so I'm extatic that ST has finally begun.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Reminds me of the same stuff that came out last year at this time about Samardzija Samardzija was very determined to go to FA long before the Sox traded for him. The Sox FO tried to woo Samardzija into changing his mind but thankfully, Samardzija held his ground and went for free agency. Samardzija wasn't willing to extend, Frazier is open to the idea so the scenarios are very different.
-
I've been thinking this was a possibility for both Frazier and Lawrie since they were acquired and both could be a fit as long term solutions. I'm sure both players and the FO want to take some time, play baseball and see if there's a fit for both sides. I wouldn't be surprised if both were extended at some point between now and next winter.

Would love to see a return of the Expos! I like the ideas of Austin and Vancouver as well. I hope the MLB does add two teams. Edit: thats a fun read and thank you for posting it.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:37 AM) or rios as an of'er and move Avi to dh and platoon. That's not very nice. You take back that comment about Rios. Do not blaspheme! I will admit that Rios still plays much better defense in RF compared to Avi. Still, no thanks.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 06:30 AM) I can certainly understand Sox reluctance to signing him for any more than a year. Same here. I would prefer a one year deal but would be willing to add a second year option, if necessary. That's as far as I would go.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) really nice. i had to look up the newly players on the team. that is were i saw fields name. i am just looking at what the sox have internally. I admit that I'm probably higher on May than most but I do keep in mind that he's still young, moving up to AAA for the first time and needs time. Awe hell, let's just trade Avi + for a LH OF bat, sign Freese to be LaRoche's platoon partner and be done.

Good grief. Well, before this thread gets shut down I just want to say RIP to Eddie and hope for the best for his friends and relatives. http://www.northjersey.com/news/funeral-se...ering-1.1519429
