  1. Who was the pitcher on KC that said the White Sox were the easiest team to get out, they will swing at anything.
  2. Yoan has a chance of coming off my s%*# list but might be replaced by Robert.
  3. I think most of us had some emotions during the 1990 season as very soon a place that we loved would not be us with any longer. I'm going to go back to 1981 for another emotional game, my cousin and I attended a game in June against the Yankees, it was the last night before the players were to go on strike. The Sox were playing great ball and IIRC were a game out of first as the addition of Fisk and Luzinski made Sox contenders for the first time since the 77 season. The Sox won that game and not knowing how long the strike would be my cousin and I were literally the last fans to leave the park, we just sat there looking out at that wonderful green grass with all those green seats and I remember my cousin saying ''God, I love this place", nothing more was needed to say as we finally left the park with tears in our eyes.
  4. Correct on all points, the Wrigley's did a good job with the sightlines down in the corners. If I had one beef about old Comiskey was that if you sat down in the corners they were some of the worst seats in MLB as you left with a stiff neck, the worst seats were actually if there was a full house and you got stuck in the last seat in the last row down the right field line up ln the lower grandstand seats, not only did you have to crane your neck but at that part of the park you had to deal with 2 support beams, I sort of knew the ballpark pretty good not only from attending a couple hundred games from 1955 until it closed but I also was a vendor there and at Wrigley during the 1962 season.
  5. Comiskey was super and I have so many memories beginning with my first game in 1955 but Chicago Stadium was something special, IMHO it was the greatest hockey arena ever built and the place will never be duplicated. What a shame that those 2 great places are no longer with us.
  6. Bill Veeck loved paint.
  7. ...and how bad of an owner JR is for hiring a useless comatose has been.
  8. I've been a fan since 1952 and I'm very close especially after the 2022 season to not giving a **** anymore. At 77 years old not too many things excite me anymore but I might be pretty excited with new ownership, 41 years of JR and company are enough.
  9. I think they will be better than last year which isn’t saying a lot. First, they have to stay healthy. Second, some attitude adjustments are in order especially from Moncada and Anderson. Third, who will be the closer now that Liam is out probably for the year. Fourth, I hope I’m wrong but I think the loss of Abreu is going to hurt, who is going to step up and be the leader. Fifth point, who is the rightfielder? 6th point and on the good side is I think that the addition Benintendi is going to help and that Grifol is going to be a damn good manager. If things go their way, I say the Sox go 86-76 and contend for a WC.
  10. Prayers for Liam.
  11. Nahorodny better than Karkovice, no way. I’d take Karko 7 days a week with twice on Sunday.
  12. Yes he did spend more time with the Sox than any other team but unfortunately is sporting a New York Giants cap on his HOF plaque.
  13. I'll go with 12. Officer Karkovice hit one of the longest and hardest hit homers I saw in person at old Comiskey, IIRC it was in 1989 and we were sitting way out in left centerfield in the upper deck about 5 rows up and Karko hit a laser that went over our heads by about 4 or 5 rows. When you think about it, it should have been a roof shot but as I said it was a laser shot, more of a line drive than a moon shot.
  14. Wrigley Field is a tourist destination, how many out of towners would attend Flubs games if they played at 35th and Shields. Recent history shows that when the Brewers were in the AL very few fans from Milwaukee would attend Sox- Brewer games in Chicago but many Sox fans including me attended quite a few games in Milwaukee.
  15. No one ever bitched about Harry. I liked Hawk also.
  16. The Chicago Cardinals football team left Chicago for St. Louis in 1960 and are now the Arizona Cardinals and after all these years there's still a soft spot in my heart for them.
  17. Owners will do anything for money, just remember the Dodgers left Brooklyn, the Giants left NYC, The Rams left LA for St. Louis, the Browns left Cleveland for Baltimore and the Braves left Milwaukee where they never had a losing season and were the first NL team to draw 2 million fans in a season. There were a lot of moves in pro sports that made a lot of sense and the Dodgers moving to LA was like finding a gold mine but at the time in 1957 baseball fans all over the country could not believe that the Dodgers were leaving Brooklyn, it was just about sacrilegious. Don't ever buy into the idea that the Sox would never leave Chicago, it came very close to happening 3 different times.
  18. Just curious, are there many Sox fans in your neck of the woods, at one time it was a huge Sox area as was NW indiana.
  19. I didnt say JR was losing money, I'm saying MLB could care less if the White Sox moved and MLB would capitalize on a move with new merchandising in a new city.
  20. The White Sox left WGN in after 1967 for UHF channel WFLD 32. The trouble was very few Chicagoans at the time had UHF TV's. They did return to WGN in the 90s for a few years showing a limited amount of games on free TV. The 1968 was a major mistake at the time and turned many Sox fans into Cub fans especially kids who came home from school and watched the Cubs on WGN. More of the same in the early 80's when the Sox went to pay TV while the Cubs with Harry Caray were televising 162 games on free WGN TV.
  21. Could all this be a scheme to move the Sox to another city when the lease is up on GRF. Piss off the fans and watch attendance plummet to Oakland A's and Tampa Bay levels, and JR's heirs and partners sell to someone in another city, they would probably get more money from another city and buyers than they would if someone that bought the team while keeping them in Chicago. Nothing surprises me with the track record of Reinsdorf, I trust him as far as I can throw him. I'm sure some will say that the AL wouldn't allow the Sox to leave Chicago, well there is no AL anymore, it's MLB where money talks and BS walks. Let's face it, the Sox are not a premier franchise, a mediocre record down through the years with 3 WS Championships, very sad. The fans aren't exactly tearing down the walls to watch the team, the Sox drew 2 million last year for the first time since 2011, again sad. The Sox are one of the few MLB franchises that have never drawn 3 million fans in a season, pretty sad for the 3rd largest market in the country. Chicago is a Cub town and probably has 60-65 % of the Chicago market and at least half of the Illinois market who they share with the Cardinals, there are very few Sox fans in Illinois outside the Chicago metro area, the Sox market share is probably comparable to Cincinatti and Pittsburgh. All that and Chicago will probably be passed by Houston and Dallas by 2030 as 3rd largest metro area in the country while Chicago loses population. Other cities in the sun belt continue to grow, places like Charlotte, San Antonio and Nashville will be ripe for a MLB franchise. All that being said, it would pain me to see the Sox leave Chicago, I've been a fan since 1952 with many great memories but just think of the memories that Yankee, Dodger, Red Sox and Cardinal fans have. BTW This new seating plan is the most insane configuration I've ever seen, who was the genius behind that.
