OMG THEY ACTUALLY SENT VAUGHN TO CHARLOTTE
The Mighty Mite replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For what they’re paying him, he will be back sooner than later. -
Sox are 9-12 for the month of May for a winning percentage of .429 if they continue at that pace they will go 48-63 the rest of the way and finish with a 64-98 record which would be a 23 game improvement and also avoid 3 straight years of 100 losses (those 2 sweeps by KC and Cubs really hurt). 2 things, they need to stay healthy and I think the schedule is a bit harder the rest of the way but I also think that individually some of our players will improve which in reality doesn’t insure more wins. If somehow Robert can return to his 2023 level it would be a big plus along with a healthy Benintendi and Tauchman.

I always liked Sheets better than Vaughn, they should have kept him and traded Vaughn last winter. -

Yawn.

05/19 - White Sox vs Mariners Gamethread

Looked like batting practice. -
I hope you are right but I’ve seen a lot in the last 73 years, I saw the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers move to LA along with Willie Mays and the NY Giants to San Francisco. The Colts pack up and move in the middle of the night from Baltimore to Indianapolis, the Cleveland Browns, one of the greatest NFL franchises ever move to Baltimore. The Rams leaving Los Angeles but then returning. The original A’s now moving to their 4th city, the Boston Braves now in their 3rd city. The White Sox are no better than any of those franchises and Chicago isn’t the place it once was, by 2030 both Houston and Dallas will overtake Chicago in population. Like I said, I hope you are right but we are dealing with one of the biggest scumbags in pro sports with Reinsdorf and I trust him as far as I can throw him. Bottom line it would break my heart if the Sox left Chicago.

I’m with you, this is not a rebuild. I’ve been a fan since the early 50s and never have I seen an organization and team this bad and I have no clue what the game plan is. Sometimes I feel like this tanking is being done on purpose to shrink the fan base even more and no one would care if JR sold to someone in another city and the Chicago White Sox were no more.
-
I thought I was seeing things when I saw Palacios hitting 3rd, I’m not sure about Veneble.
-
I can’t believe that JR continues to allow Getz to spend money on mostly garbage, anyone have any idea how many guys have come and gone since Getz took over in late season 2023.

Arlington Heights making stadium pitch to White Sox?

The upper deck is a lot better since they lopped off 8 rows, it’s still steep but I have noticed a lot of the new parks with upper decks just as steep. -
Arlington Heights making stadium pitch to White Sox?
The Mighty Mite replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So what has to be done to make a baseball park not dull? Is Wrigley Field a great park, no, back in the day it was just another ballpark. Same with Fenway, what both ball parks have going for them is that they are old and in neighborhoods with lots of restaurants and bars, those things have never done a thing for me. What makes Dodger Stadium so good? The stadium itself, absolutely nothing. It is in a great setting with the hills in the background but as a ballpark and watching a game it is no better than Rate Field, and guess what, it’s surrounded by parking lots with no restaurants or bars anywhere close to it. Royals Stadium gets pretty good reviews but again it’s no better than Rate Field, again another park surrounded by parking lots and no restaurants or bars nearby. I will say this about our ballpark, when first built it was an ugly monstrosity but much to my chagrin I have to give kudos to JR and company for turning the park into a very nice place to watch a game. Bottom line, if a ballpark is considered dull, that problem could be rectified very easily with a winning team. -
Also trades for Lollar who won a few Gold Gloves and Jungle Jim. The World Series starting lineup in 1959 had only 2 home grown products in Aparicio and Landis however we had some great prospects in Callison, Cash, Battey, Romano and Mincher who Veeck all traded away before the 1960 season, I never forgave Veeck for those trades.

So where does the money come from for stadiums in AH? -
Not as long as JR is the owner.

Only some kind of miracle could change it. Back in the Go Go years, the Sox were more popular and I think the Sox were more popular in the first 2 decades of the 20th century leading the Majors in attendance more than a few times while winning 2 World Series but of course the franchise took a beating after the Black Sox scandal. When Reinsdorf took over in 1981 the metro area was just about equally divided and the Sox were the first Chicago team to draw 2 million in 1983 and were the darlings of the area. I have always thought that things really started to change when the Cubs came out of nowhere and won the 1984 division while the Sox floundered that year. The Tribune buying the Cubs and Harry Caray moving to the Northside had huge implications along with WGN becoming a Superstation. Meanwhile with one blunder after another by Reinsdorf has seen the fan base shrink and shrink and I have no idea what the last 3 years are doing to it.

Watching the Rays and the announcers are talking about how strong the American League Central is except for the White Sox and who ever beats us the most will wind up winning the Central with the other 2 taking the WC, just so embarrassing. I really thought we were turning the corner but the last 3 games have been brutal. It’s time to cut bait with Robert and Vaughn, they’re suppose to be the strength of the lineup and are just plain garbage especially AV because at least Robert is still playing a great center field.
-
My patience is running out with Vaughn, I thought maybe this was the year he puts it altogether and becomes the hitter I thought he would be when he was drafted, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Realistically, what could we get for him?

Yep, lost game 4 of the KC sweep right after he was proclaimed the new Pope but we will take a .667 clip everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. -
Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
The Mighty Mite replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
At this point we probably wouldn’t get that much for him, the ideal situation would be that Robert gets out of his funk and becomes the hitter we expected him to be and spends the rest of his career with the Sox. He is still a one of the best centerfielders in MLB and steals bases. -

Right now they don’t stink and when Benintendi and Tauchman return there will be some more pop in the lineup. The kids can play.
