  1. i predict ozzie blows tonight. and he needs to look in the mirror and forget this love affair with pablo.
  2. walk to thome let's bust this thing open right now.
  3. is there any news on Hermy? i have enough faith in Kenny W that he'll get us a pitcher or two at some point. Maybe Logan will learn something from today's outing and come back and build some confidence in KC. last year was a once in a lifetime experience, leading wire to wire and winning all those one run games. the sooner we stop expecting things to unfold the way they did last year, the better off we'll all be. That won't be easy to do, but it's the only way we can proceed.
  4. looked like some of the shots he used to hit off John Snyder and Jamie Navarro. bout time he's hitting them for us.
  5. we got major issues with our pen major
  6. is there any chance the Sox can get Jeff Nelson?
  7. i didn't hear anybody say a word about Pods being hurt on the telecast -- although it is the Cubs crew
  8. just curious:Who is this Mike Myers guy? And does ruben rivera have any chance to make the squad?
  9. should have called out the fat boy's conditioning a month ago -- and done something about it. I'm very concerned by what I saw from Jenks on Wednesday. He's ordinary at best. And we don't have any replacement parts. I'd leave the fat boy with Charlotte until he got in shape.
  10. i guess I worry about guys who look like they slept at the All You Can Eat line all winter.
  11. concerned about Jenks? Yes, I am. especially without Hermie (or Shingo) around. fastest gun reading I saw was 94.
  12. joe Borchard. drew henson. Chris Weinke Josh Booty Quncy Carter Kenny Kelly. How many football guys have to go bust before baseball folks figure out they're not going to make it to the big leagues because they miss too much developmental time in college? That's $5 million of Reinsdorf's cash out the window. Thanks, Duane Shaffer.
  13. three groundouts -- one to Iguchi, one to Contreras, one to Uribe. world championship defense.
  14. two batters, two groundouts.
  15. First frank has to prove he is healthy. he hit a bunch of homers last year, but he also struck out a ton and clogged up the bases. Then he has to show he can still be a productive offensive player for an entire season. It's a business. Kenny williams is the boss. Frank Thomas is labor. Kenny chose to go with Thome and Paulie. Move on.
  16. The Twins? Is that the team that used to have AJ Pierzynski?
  17. I love Frank Thomas. Have from the moment he arrived with the Sox in 1990. He started hitting then and rarely stopped. Certainly the best Sox offensive player of all time. We'll probably not have a player like him for a long, long time. But it was time for him to go. He's been antagnostic toward management for several years -- even after they kept him around when they could have invoked the diminished skills part of his contract. He's struggled to stay healthy for several years, carries too much weight and has been an irritant to several teammates. He's a station to station baseerunner, who became home run obsessed last year. We won the World Series in spite of Frank Thomas, not because of him. He should have been grateful the other guys got him a ring and that management let him throw out the first ball. From all reports, Thome should be excellent in the clubhouse. He played winning baseball in Cleveland. He WANTS to be with the White Sox. He gets along with Konerko. He has hit well in the Cell. He might start slowly because of the injury, but I think he'll be just fine when the warm weather arrives. Props to Williams and Reinsdorf for bringing him aboard.
  18. yep it is on the newsstand. the fantasy guide has been out for several weeks. this is the regular preview. It's improved. About six pages on each team, with a rating for the starters. I believe Scot gregor of the Daily Herald wrote the Sox preview There is a nice picture of Buehrle and Garland preceding the AL preview Nice not to see Mussina or ARod or Varitek or Manny jammed down our throats FOR ONCE.
  19. just one guy ragged on PK. another went with my choice -- Derek Jeter.
  20. not that media hype wins any game, but the sporting news yearbook believes the Sox were not a fluke. They're ranked Number One in the overall mlb powerpoll. Yankees are second, Cleveland fifth, Angels sixth, A's seventh, Blue Jays eight and Red Sox tenth, so it's tilted toward the AL. Six of their eight guys predict the Sox to win the Central, one has them winning the wildcard, one doesn't have them making the playoffs. And of the six that pick them to win the division, three have the Sox winning the World Series again. quite a change from last year. still some digs. One guy says Konerko is the most overrated player in the game.
  21. bottom line is this: Rooney is one of the best baseball play by play guys in the country, top three for sure on radio. I will miss him. Lots. Farmer can handle an inning or two of pbp. Hard to imagine him doing 7 innings, 162 games.
  22. let the haters hate. Crede should be better. Pods could be better. Anderson has a chance to top Arow's numbers. Thome should be a massive upgrade over Carl. Not worried about the O. Just need the pitching to be consistent -- and avoid injuries.
  23. Sullivan had a story on Guillen today. I hope he's not back. He's ordinary at best.
  24. Padilla is no loss. Below average writer. Rarely broke a story. No real insights into baseball. CAn't remember anything memorable he ever did. Cowley has the best sources on the team. Players seem to trust him and they will talk to him. I always read his stuff because he usually finds a way to work some entertaining tidbits into his stories. Gregor is OK, but a notch below Cowley is getting guys to open up. Been on the beat a long time, Needs a change of scenery. Gonzalez can't write a lick. And since he was new to the beat last year, he was a little behind with the players. He needs a breakout season. Paul Sullivan was the worst on the Sox. Wayyyy too much cynicism in his writing. Phil Rogers is the only guy in town who writes with a solid national perspetive. He will give his opinion and is not a homer for either team. Morrissey is easily the best columnist. He wrote the best column when the team was slumping, advising fans the Sox would still win. Downey is mailing it in. Mariotti changes directions every time his eyebrows wiggle. His opinions are knee jerk and overwrought.
  25. if Borch ain't the fourth outfielder, who is it going to be? Considering the chance for injuries, the fourth and fifth outfielders are pretty important folks.
