  1. I wouldn't be so quick to trade him. Can't have enough good lefties. And as soon as somebody gets hurt, we'll wish he was around. He'd be more valuable if he was a bit more effective against righties, but we shouldn't just give away a veteran lefty with a low contract.
  2. Three more shutout and hitless innings yesterday against the Phillies. he's pitched four times for the Mets. Outstanding twice. good once poor once. Two things to remember: *Sox could have used him and got down on him too quickly. *They should NOT repeat the same mistake with Rauch, Stewart or any of the other young arms.
  3. The Mets aren't the only team desperate for a fifth starter. Just don't think getting Timo Perez for Ginter was equal value.
  4. Happy for Joe quality guy. He'll be a solid dude in the clubhouse. hope he is promoted soon.
  5. Ginter will have a better MLB career than Timo Perez. The sox haven't had a fifth starter pitch six scoreless innings against ANYBODY in two years. Not Wright. Not Porzio. Not Cotts. Not Diaz. Not Art Kusyner. Not Kirk McCaskill. Not Ray Herbert. Ginter has a good arm. and that was the Phillies, not the devil rays, he pitched against. The Sox relentlessly jerked him around -- starter, closer, set-up man, closer, starter, closer, starter. He'll have a solid career. End of discussion.
  6. dude pitched six scoreless innings against the Phillies last night. he's pitched well in two of his three appearances for the Mets. Art Howe says they're keeping him in the rotation and stretching him out. He's 1-0 with an ERA of 3.24, I think. Another kid with an excellent arm the Sox gave up on too soon.
  7. my bad. They just had a picture of Borchard on the site. It was an announcement of his IL award. sorry.
  8. FYI, Borchard was also named player of the week for the entire minor leagues by the minorleaguebaseball.com web site Here is the announcement: HITTER--Charlotte OF Joe Borchard hit .452 (14-31) with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 5 homers, 18 RBI and a 1.065 slugging percentage.
  9. players can develop more power as they get older and stronger. He's in Triple A and hitting well less than two full years after he was drafted. He's playing with two sore wrists in a new league. He just went through a slump, but he's warmed up again in the last week when he was moved up to second and first in the order. Reed will be fine. And I've got my fingers crossed that Borchard is finally healthy and figuring it out. Sox could use both of those guys.
  10. maggs to the Cubs is unthinkable, intolerable and despicable.
  11. Sox are tired with 3 other AL teams -- New York, Twinkies and Rangers -- with a 24-17 record.
  12. Snow would be an upgrade in the field, but he's lost almost all of his power, he's another slowpoke and he's ancient. Rather use Gload than Snow.
  13. watched Bart throw BP against the Yankees last night. ugleeee. props to JR and KW for not overpaying. But I wish they would have kept Flash Gordon.
  14. nothing on that list that interests me, other than perhaps Reuter or A.J. the others are overpriced and primed to decline.
  15. no, no, no on Burnitz. If we're going to put a Jeremy in the outfield, make it Reed -- and then make the deal for another quality starting pitcher. Burnitz whiffs too much. He's an average outfielder. His numbers are up because he's playing in Colorado. And like most players of his ability, a hot start will be balanced out by a colder summer Hell no on Burnitz
  16. can't lose two games in a week to Seth freaking Greisinger. Not if you're a good team.
  17. timo is this year's armando Rios and that, friends, ain't a compliment
  18. ozzie said on the pre-game radio show that Harris is hurting more than Maggs. figures Maggs can play tomorrow. probably longer for Willie. Herm Schneider didn't want either one playing on turf with their injuries
  19. maggs only did it because Farmio teased him into it.
  20. Maggs said he will be available to pinch hit. and he just guaranteed a victory
  21. maggs just said on the radio he could have played today, but that Herm Schneider said NO. He said he will play tomorrow
  22. i believe reed haD THREE walks today. plus, they keep moving him up in the order. He went to second earlier this week and hit leadoff today. Borchard has raised his batting average about 70 points in a week.
  23. just ran a graphic on the Twinkies' TV feed that said Torii Hunter has more hits off Estey than any players in the big leagues -- 16.
  24. They've always got a Dustan Mohr, Bobby Kielty or Lew Ford waiting in the weeds to punish us. Unless Jacque Jones takes care of it.
  25. that was the year Oakland had a s*** pot of Sox guys -- Saenz, Menechino, Bradford, Durham. maybe another one.
