Baseball Prospectus
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) The Twins have another 10 on the road coming up (as do the Sox too, but they also play KC and get a break before going to Minnesota while the Twins just play 10 straight on the road against pretty good teams) and their's also appears to a bit tougher. If the Sox want any time at all to make up ground lost - and this is assuming they win atleast 1 of the next 2 against Toronto - it will have to come this weekend against Detroit. I still think the Sox find a way in but the lineup is hurting badly right now. It's time for Griffey to find a time machine and go back just 3 years. don't the twinkies play at Baltimore this weekend? Not even Peter Angelos would call the Orioles pretty good.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
Here is the story from the Sun-Times. Obviously, one of the Sox players told Cowley that CQ punched a locker. I fear that's what really happened. BY JOE COWLEY Staff Reporter Carlos Quentin's season appears to be over as the White Sox left fielder and MVP candidate suffered a fractured right wrist that will require surgery Monday, according to sources. It's not certain how Quentin suffered the injury, but speculation is he punched a locker in Boston. He was a late scratch before Monday's game in Cleveland and hasn't played since. Quentin has 36 home runs. The Sox have options to replace Quentin, including moving Ken Griffey Jr. from center to left field. And Nick Swisher would move to center.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
Sun Times says he punched a locker in Boston. Tribune says it happened on a swing and a miss against Cliff Lee. Where's Mariotti when you need him to break the tie?

Good Start!
we need to play these three games like they are the most important three of the season because we could end up fighting BoSox for wildcard knowing Epstein, he'll probably make another deal and have somebody fresh to face us by Sunday -- in time to be on the active list for October.

Sox Horrible First-Round Draft History
from 1987-90 we were amazing McDowell followed by Thomas followed by Ventura followed by Alex Fernandez. we have many problems. Usually we have not had a top 10 pick. but we've wasted money on guys like Borchard and Fields, who lost good developmental time to football Need to stop that. We've been burned by injuries -- Honel and Stumm. And we don't do a good job of developing talent.

Richard going back up...
tribune sez Broadway has been sent back down. doesn't say anything about Clayton Richard.

Broadway is an oddity...
it's on the Chicago Tribune Web site. No word on who is going to replace him. here ya go Updated: 55 minutes ago White Sox's regard to Broadway: You're demoted The Associated Press 6:16 PM CDT, August 14, 2008 The White Sox optioned right-hander Lance Broadway to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, less than an hour after he started and got the win in a 9-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Broadway is 1-0 in two appearances for the White Sox after he was recalled from the minors four days ago. He pitched 5 1-3 innings Thursday and, after a shaky start, allowed five hits and two runs, both coming in the first inning. Broadway threw 100 pitches. "It's better than going back with a loss. I got up here, got a win -- things are pretty good," said Broadway, the White Sox's first-round selection in the 2005 draft. "They need some bullpen help. It's fine with me. Whatever they need." Broadway is expected to be called back up before the end of the season. "If I got to choose, I'd be back tomorrow. But whenever they need me," he said. "I'll be back in Charlotte having fun there, too."

Word is he just got rewarded by being sent back to Charlotte.

Quentin out of lineup til Thurs
he's been hit in five straight games. don't know if that is a record. No need to find out.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
hey, like fields, Borchard, McCullough and royce Ring, he's a number one draft pick. bring back Matt Ginter or Jon Rauch.
-
Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
Carasaco has been an expected blessing. Not sure how much longer it can continue. My guess is that Broadway is a temporary move until Kenny williams finds a recycled veteran somewhere. No matter what we get, it's a patch. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
Broadway pitched well in September last season. He started strong at Charlotte this year. But AAA guys are hitting .294 against him, with 160 hits in only 138 innings. He's improved his strikeout ratio this season with 96, but he leads the International league with 23 home runs allowed. Duck.

8/7 Sox v Tigers, 7:11, WCIU
that wasn't a bad pitch to Cabrera. Heck, it wasn't even in the strike zone.

8/4 Games - Monday
any GM that overpays or gives him a contract for more than one year should be fired immediately. three straight years of back problems are all the flashing lights and sirens you need to see.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10
Fields has regressed badly this season. In spring training, he had a legit chance to knock Crede out of the lineup. We're screwed if Jose leaves after the season or his back makes him useless.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10
Paulie left on the field to grind it out in a blowout delivers The Whiff. How the might have simply fallen and been unable to get up.
-
Clayton Richard
it's too soon to write off Richard. He's an ex football player who's only been full-time baseball for three or four years. But he needs work in the minor leagues. He needs good coaching. And he doesn't need his confidence totally shredded. Send him back to Charlotte to regroup.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10
how many more runs does Boone logan have to allow before the Sox realize he is not a major league pitcher. bad in close games. bad in blowouts. bad all over.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10
another soothing thought: We have three starters -- Buehrle, Jose and Javier -- making considerably more than the combined salaries of all five guys in the Twinkies' rotation. More props to our farm system.
