  1. ryan Sweeney ain't gonna make it. Let's remember that he was playing in a hitter's park in a bad, bad league. The comparisons to Crede are silly. Crede was an MVP in both A and AA ball. Sweeney has never been close to that. He's not even an all-star in the International League. He hasn't even shown gap power. He's got a pretty swing, that's too long. He can throw a little bit. But he looks a bit of plodder in the outfield (roll video of that play from Anaheim early in the season). He's Ben Grieve Lite -- and that's not good.
  2. florida winning tampa winning worst record in baseball is in sight.
  3. I'm simply saying that Fields made a terrible throw on that ball. He bounced it to Gonzalez from medium left field. Because of his inexperience in left field, he looked bad. Different throwing motion from left field than third base. If he is going to play lfield next season, which seems likely, he's going to need a lot of work out there. having him in left and owens in center, teams are going to run, run, run on us.
  4. Fields looks adequate at third. The throw was poor, but the conditions are bad. AJ looked pissed that Gonzo didn't continue the relay. and I'd be happy if Gonzalez, Cintron and about 10 others never appeared in our third base dugout again. But overall the point remains -- our defense ain't good.
  5. maybe he just mentioned eckstein because the Cardinals are in town to play the Cubs. hope. our defense is soooooo bad. Fields couldn't even throw the ball to the cutoff man in the infield on the fly. if Crede doesn't come back next season, we're hosed.
  6. most of us knew this day was coming 5 1/2 months ago after a month of horrible and lackluster play in spring training. need to punt about half the guys off the 25-man roster.
  7. Cintron has a $5 million option. Thought that was Uribe? Cintron is garbage. no field. no arm. no spark. can find a solid utility infielder who is better for much, much less.
  8. only 3 1/2 weeks to go. remember that.
  9. fly ball by I-rod is gone in chicago.
  10. too bad we're not playing football. just heard Tigers announcers say Cleveland won the season series against the Twinkies this year 15 to 3. That's being owned. Like Rogers is owning us right now.
  11. I agree. With Floyd, it's executive of pitches first, confidence much later. He can't keep hanging breaking balls and pitching high in the zone, especially in The Cell, because he'll give up a zillion homers. Detroit is a better place for him to pitch. He needs to improve command and execution, and there's no guarantee he can do either.
  12. first infield hit of konerko's career. he's also been caught stealing. new nickname: Wheels.
  13. dye leaves. grindy enters.
  14. if jerry owens is our leadoff hitter next year we're screwed.
  15. actually Cintron should be playing for another team. but wait til next year for that.
  16. this looks like much ado about do-do because there is nothing about an extension for ozzie anywhere out there that I can find. Kenny deserves more of the heat for this crappy season than Ozzie. but the way this team has totally tanked and been non-competitive in so many games surely makes me wonder if a number of these guys have quit on Guillen.
  17. fields hit a first-pitch slider, which was actually low in the zone. Hit it out to the bullpen in left center.
  18. What is this going to be 11th straight road loss? Or is it more? Over and under on how many road games Sox win the rest of the year. four. take the under.
  19. we'll have the best Triple A team in the AL central
  20. i'm embarrassed to admit I'm still watching this garbage.
  21. another impressive offensive display. remember ... it's the cold weather. It'll get better in 2017
  22. So many problems, so few options. Koneerko may have to go. he's one of the few guys with value. He's reached a point in his career where his numbers will probably decline. You can find a stop gap first baseman for a lot less. Who else can we trade that has value? AJ? Not unless the Giants take another dumb pill. Fields? Our farm system is killing us.
  23. Why Dewon Day? haven't we suffered enough.
  24. congrats to everybody who is still here. we are officially the hardest of hard corps. won't get us tickets to the next world series ahead of the pretty people, but we'll enjoy it more.
