  1. Thought Buehrle had a no-trade for the first year or two of his new deal. Fact is we don't have many tradeable part -- or any help in the system. we're going to live and die with this group.
  2. breaks my heart.
  3. If Richar is out, don't we need to keep Uribe to play second base? Can't imagine going into the season with only Ramirez and Ozuna at 2B. That's a disaster waiting to bring Robbie Alomar out of retirement. Plus need Juan around to give Cabrera some time off now and then. Mike Shouse ain't the answer.
  4. Morrissey is a much more thoughtful and insightful writer than the other columnists in town. criticizes folks when warranted, but never knee jerk. but he too often gets ignored because of the town crier, who rips every day. And that's why he keeps ripping. Everybody pays attention to him and ignores the thoughful guys.t
  5. lief better hope he doesn't get locked in the john.
  6. Frank and Robin Ventura -- doing it the right way.
  7. we needed to fix the farm system three years ago. we need to fix it today. We need to fix it tomorrow. KW needs to get lucky with some B level free agents. But I don't want to see the Sox trade any of the top minor league guys we have now. The problem we have in CF is because we guessed wrong and thought that Brian Anderson could play there and then we traded Young. Anderson bombed. We trashed him. Now he has no value and no interest in playing for the Sox. I'm willing to take a rough year or two -- but we gotta fix the farm system.
  8. How many multi-million payrolls has Marriotti managed? How many contracts has he negotiated? How many payrolls has he met? It's easy to spend another man's money and talk about $90 million as if it's $90. I'm disappointed not to have Hunter -- but not at that price. In three or four years, when Hunter's productivity is dropping and he's still getting $18 million, let's see how the deal looks then. Take the money and get another CF and a pitcher -- which is what we need.
  9. We need a GM who can make more Matt Karchner for Jon Garland trades. Always liked Garland because he always answered the bell. Can't remember him missing a start. That's what we are going to miss -- durable workhorse. And he's good pals with Buehrle. Wonder what HIS reaction is?
  10. just wondering: What Alex Fernandez a Boras client when he left the Sox? What about Wilson Alvarez when we traded him in 1997?
  11. Only reason you would balk at LaRussa is because he is LaRussa, a genius who gets all the credit when his team wins because he's the king of the self-promotion game (see endless books, laudatory articles and other goodies, despite having two world series wins in about 25 seasons). I would think most GMs would want to name their own manager. Bottom line is that I hope Hahn stays.
  12. maybe Hahn will balk at being forced to accept Tony as his manager instead of picking his own guy. then the sox start slowly, KW gets the ziggy and Hahn gets the corner office. That's my hope. Sorry, Kenny. Take Andrew sisco, Nick Masset, Lance Broadway, Jerry Owens and Danny Richar and get out of town.
  13. like to see Ozzie recruit Carlton Fisk. could use his grit in the clubhouse and his brains in the dugout. Put Cora back at third. But I doubt Pudge would do it. Not in favor of Ventura. Too low key. So I guess it is going to be this Jeff Cox guy that Ozzie knew in Florida.
  14. our best prospect is battling leadoff for Arizona. I begin with that. i'd rank our system below average, worse than that at the top three levels. I have hopes for Shelby. but let's compare it to a decade ago, when we were producing Carlos Lee and Maggio, a few years after Mike Cameron arrived. Don't see any hitters/outfielders like those guys anywhere in sight. guys like Stumm, Borchard, Hummel, Ring and others have simply been atrocious.
  15. only disagree with one part of the post. We were out of the race in May. Or March, if you got turned off by that s***ty spring training.
  16. I'm thinking Tejada for Garland, not Lopez for MacDougal.
  17. just tell me where I need to be. Seeing 18 stories about the It Ain't Gonna Happen Team in the Tribune just put me over the edge. They MUST be stopped.
  18. Amen. in april, they said it was the schedule. In may, they said it was too cold. in June, they said it was the bullpen. In july, they said they were getting close. In August, they said it just wasn't working out. In September, they said these kinds of years happen. Now it's October. And the only thing left to say is: THEY GAWN. And at least 10 of these guys need to never come back. farewell to the most disappointing sox season since 1984.
  19. we did it. knew we could.
  20. two outs away from a better draft pick
  21. Buehrle no-no Jenks tying the record. Thome 500 walk off. burn the rest of the video.
  22. i didn't believe the adjustable caps thing either, but it's true. as for the first pick, we'll take the best available player (who isn't represented by Boras).
  23. i don't think i've ever seen a team wear adjustable caps -- even in spring training. how cheap can you be?
  24. when hawk is counting how many innings are left in the season you know it's really, really bad.
