  1. i agree that Sweeney needs to play. find out what he can do and what he can't do. punt Owens. He's a fourth or fifth outfielder as well as a pinch runner. Fields is guaranteed ABs because of Crede's injury. not as down on Uribe as everybody else And we don't have another option. like to see us trade Dye, Pods and perhaps Iguchi. As for Anderson, he's done nothing special offensively at Charlotte and sez his shoulder hurts so he can't play the field. Not the recipe for a promotion. But resign Buehrle. The quickest way to turn the ship around will be to keep Buehrle and Garland.
  2. if you're tired of watching this group lose, turn it to ESPN. Two Sox draftees starting for Cal-State Fullerton (A Row's school) against Oregon State tonight. right fielder Nick Mahin is batting third and playing right field. catcher John Curtis is batting fourth. Mahin our pick in the 16th round, Curtis in the 14th. both singled in their first at bats. bring 'em up!
  3. more evidence of how poorly we have drafted for the last four or five years.
  4. can't wait to get swept by the Cubs next weekend. THAT will be ROCK FREAKIN BOTTOM
  5. Keep an eye on this kid playing second base for Louisville in the College world Series. Sox drafted him in the 20th round last week. Kids has two home runs today against Rice, the best pitching team in the tournament. just missed a third, flying out to the warning track. After he signs, word is that he figures to start at Great Falls.
  6. hey, pods has done big-time work for Charlotte.
  7. i vote yes on trading Thome it's time to start collecting as many good young players as possible. thome is a threat to get reinjued at any time. value will never be higher. And we could find a serviceable DH at a much lower price.
  8. right after we move Jerry Owens to closer and bring back Kelly Wunsch as a catcher.
  9. my biggest fear is we don't have much that people will want. except starting pitching. And if we trade Buehrle or Garland, it's hard to imagine how bad we will be.
  10. We better hope Cunningham and Carter and a few others in A ball are better than the stiffs we have promoted from Charlotte
  11. I remember watching many, many crappy Sox teams, including some that lost in the 100-game range in the late 60s. But I can't remember one as disinterested, lifeless and void of talent as this one. This is flat-out dismal and discouraging.
  12. just wondering: Is anybody really watching the games any more? plenty of good seats will be available in September.
  13. this is bad, embarrassing and disgusting beyond belief. what is there left to say except this is a bad team?
  14. alex cintron is garbage. he's a problem. can't field. definitely can't throw. what is the point?
  15. people who are pissed have reasons to be pissed. Look at the standings. Look at the lineup. Look at the payroll. And look at the list of top draft picks. McCullough Broadway Fields Anderson Ring Honel Borchard Stumm I can't remember 1998, but I don't think his bust in headed for Cooperstown. Might have been Matt Ginter. Until we show we can draft a quality player and develop him, we need to complain loud enough for the folks in the front office to hear.
  16. For the record, i watched Broadway pitch in person last night. one of his better games. went 7 innings, allowed three runs, two earned. only four Ks with four walks. Fastball usually at 87, occasionally hit 88. NEVER HIGHER than 88. Gave up six hits, including a 398-foot dinger by Mark Bellhorn. He looks functional, a fourth or fifth starter, which is what the scouts say about him. Nothing wrong with that, except he was a first-round draft pick.
  17. What kind of power pitcher has 66 Ks in 100 innings in a s*** conference? Add him to the list -- between Jason Stumm and Royce Ring. we're doomed.
  18. Rowand for Macdougal doesn't bother me. Just don't throw Broadway, Gio, Egbert, McCullough or Russell into the mix, too.
  19. jon rauch would look decent in our pen right now. as would Matt Guerrier.
  20. scouting and development. it all starts there. we suck in both departments.
  21. heard our bullpen ERA over the last 18 games is nearly 10. we failed to score more than 3 in any game in Toronto. that's what I call a total team effort.
  22. Help! have they said why Crede isn't playing? And before anybody gets too excited, remember who is pitching for us. When was the last time Jenks pitched? Mother's Day?
  23. instead of talking about JayBird, has Hawk said WHY crede isn't playing?
  24. owens in CF. this should be very interesting.
