Sox starters not looking too hot this last week or so...
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) I can't see it unless Danks is really hurt. I'm not talking about achy, I am talking about really injured to where he is going to miss significant time. It doesn't make any sense otherwise. I'd still rather have Santiago/Castro or even Axe get more starts if that's the case over a trade for any of those guys.

I don't know how Hamilton ever makes contact. He has a hitchier swing than Beckham...

Purcey stinks. How did he get a normal number assigned to him? Johnson should have been 41. -

Nice Johnson starting today instead of Axe. I'd much rather see a prospect if I'm watching a ST game, than Axe -
Hawk already drinking the Royal Kool-Aid.... SO annoying.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) Danks gave up 4 homers to Sox minor leaguers. 66 pitches. Lovely.
-
Puig is gonna be a BEAST. Jesus.
-
Only 4 regulars? Booo. If I'm gonna be able to watch I wanna see some starts or better prospects haha
-
So is the Peacock gonna be on all CSN broadcasts now?

Sox vs Brewers 3/21 spring game thread

Beckham really turning it on these last few weeks. I'm not holding my breath it will continue into April, but glad to see some progress. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) Axelrod has a career 4.50 era in his 10 starts at the major league level, with a WHIP of 1.39, and 57 hits against in 56 IP. He pretty much screams average. Certainly nothing as bad as being made out here. It doesn't make sense to have to bring another reliever in for a month, and then yo-yo Santiago between starting and the pen, along with having to potentially reset everyone in the pen once Santiago gets back there. Would you put the new pitcher into Santiago's role? Would you move everyone up a spot in the pen, and keep the extra reliever at the bottom of the list, only to bump everyone else back when Danks returns and kicks Santiago out of the rotation? Well I personally don't think Danks will be making many starts in the first half of the season anyway. At least not in Chicago. He needs to take as much time as possible to get that shoulder right and going every fifth day in Charlotte will be the best option. Let him get knocked around down there till June or July... once he's dominant in AAA then he can come back to Chicago in a position to help the Sox win. But I think it will take him more than a handful of starts to ge the kinks out. If it was 2 starts, fine have Axe go out there and get rocked, but I don't think it will be. That's why I want Santiago in there. I think he gives them a better chance.
-
Getting off to a fast start is ESSENTIAL for the Sox to compete this year (and every year really), and giving the ball to Axe every fifth day seems like a strategy to make sure it doesn't happen.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) Looks like Robin is leaning towards Axe. So stupid... Santiago is the better choice. Better stuff, more composure, and is a lefty.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) It's a 6th or 7th starter, it's not a huge deal As long as he's 7th and in Charlotte. If Danks can't start the season I want Santiago in his place.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Cooper seemed pretty positive. He said he is continuing to improve, and is planning on having him start again Sunday. Also interesting to hear that Axelrod is on the same schedule as Santiago. He could be the fifth starter still if Danks can't go. Ugh. Come on already, end this experiment.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) Calling Floyd a mental midget and worse? Man there are a lot of racists in this thread. Well, I do hate white people, Myself included, so...
-
Pretty sure the knock on Floyd has always been that he's mentally weak, even back in his Phillies days, no?
-
At least Floyd is not a mental midget where hearing this might effect him.... Oh, wait.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) Um, why are all your posts one liners that end in exclamation points! HAHAHAH. Finally...
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) 3 years isn't enough? Seriously.

I know we shouldn't expect him to be perfect at this point in Spring Training, but we've already lost one full season of the contract of an effective and healthy Danks pitching. Who knows when he's gonna be effective this season... So that's going to be 2 seasons kinda wasted if he's not throwing like was was pre-2012... Should have lessened the demands in a trade for him or just let him walk after an injury season and told him "good luck", maybe could have signed him to a smaller contract after an injured season.
-
Talk all you want about the Dunn contract, but right now, early on this Danks contract is looking like biggest mistake this team has made in a long time.
