Hell of a job by Troncoso. As much as I loathe Beckham with the stick, he is smooth with the glove...
-
Loman looks more like a TE than a baseball player. BIG dude.
-
Beckhams new swing not looking like its doing much.
-
He's got lead feet and just swinging with his forearms only. Looks so bad.
-
Morel swinging like he doesn't even care anymore. Looks defeated.
-
Games on MLB.tv if anyone wants to watch now. Padres feed.

HOW COULD ROBIN TAKE QUINTANA OUT?!?! HE HAD A PERFECT GAME!
-
THe leg kick for Viciedo seems to help him making contact so far this spring. He made solid contact in his first AB, even though he hit it right at the third basemen, now a nice looped single.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) If the Sox are signing a stop-gap, it ought to be Konerko unless he decides to retire or has a terrible year this year. He's in his late 30's, ought to be on 1 year contracts...and we're kinda familiar with him. Since he's a righty he's also a good counterpoint with Dunn to share the 1b/DH spots. It would be nice, but I think Paulie will get more money from someone else and maybe another year. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Problem with letting PK14 walk at the end of the year would be...not sure who plays 1b next year. Maybe Mitchell and Thompson play well enough at AAA that they earn callups, and Viciedo hits well enough that they put him back there, but Dunn is not going to be this team's everyday 1b next year. And anyway, AJ can have more than just 1 standing O from the audience. Yeah, I imagine if Paulie walks, you sign a stop gap, or move Keppinger to first. Barnum is still a few years away. Maybe Wilkins can come back from the dead... -
"Carlos" throwing a lot of breaking balls, eh?
-
"Russ Feebley" eh?

Yeah I was at that Dodgers game, that sucked. Also, NOT his first start Melton.... So weird he got his facts wrong. It's so rare he does that.

I don't want to generalize, (but I'm going to haha) cause I don't know how old everyone is, but it seems like a lot of older fans have a hard time letting veteran players go. One's that have either declined in play, priced themselves out, or are just too damn old to be viable options anymore, some older fans want on the team until they turn into dust on the field. (And not just White Sox fans too, I know some Boston fans who still think Varitek should be playing) No matter what kind of season Paulie has this year, I'm completely fine letting him go at the end of the season. Just like with AJ, I think some team will offer him more money than the Sox are willing to offer and everyone is going to freak out, but you gotta be smart. The front office values loyalty, but their not dumb either, they know what makes financial sense, and I tend to agree with them. -
I know he hasn't but it seems like Marinez has pitched in every game this spring. At least every time I tune in to watch it.

I'm way more concerned about a catchers handling of the staff than his offense right now. From everything I've read or heard the Sox pitchers love throwing to Tyler. That's good enough for me. As long as he can block pitches in the dirt, call a good game behind the plate and keep base runners honest, he's good in my book. Flowers is all I need with the bat: Low BA with some good pop. He'll strike out but also walk? With defense? On the cheap? Sign me up. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) “@CST_soxvan: Keppinger said his shoulder is getting stronger and that he'll play 3B in 2 days. DH today.” Obviously I'm jumping to conclusions saying this is lingering, but its really a good time for Gillespie to shine and he's doing pretty good for himself so far... Trade could wind up being a bigger deal for the 2013 Sox than originally thought.

Hey how bout that Conor Gillespie? No batting gloves, what's that about? -
I hate Melton. Just cause you played for the Sox in the past doesn't mean you should get a free ride. Get someone who knows the Sox system to call the game and gives us factual information about this team, not marble mouthed word vomit...
-
Other highlights: Melton called Darvish "Yu Jarvish" Thinks Sanchez is can't miss Thinks Tolleson came in the trade from San Fran

With Granderson out I'm shocked the Yankees haven't already signed him. If he's got any pop left the short porch in right would be perfect for him. And no worries about the health issues, when he goes down with an injury maybe Granderson will be ready to go hah

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Call it a hunch, but I don't think it was just Ozzie. I just don't think Swisher was very popular in the locker room. The whole bat incident seemed to rub a lot of people the wrong way. It seemed that team had a lot of conflicting personalities and egos, yet they won the division. Well his personality didn't seem like an issue is NY... It had something to do with Ozzie, but I'm willing to bet it also had something to do with guys like Konerko/AJ/Dye running the clubhouse in a more quiet, buttoned up way and Swish didn't mesh with that. I'm a firm believer in having some personality in the clubhouse to keep it loose. I don't think Paulie et al agree with that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 07:19 AM) I have a hard time with Swisher, as I really think Ozzie f***ed that one up more than anything. So true. Swisher got a lot of unwarranted hate around here for what was more of an Ozzie issue. The short porch of Yankee stadium helped, but you saw what happened with Swish's productivity once he left the South Side and got away from Guillen.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) I think Beckham needs AAA. He seems so confused. I think he needs to tear it down -- get a rock-solid approach that he can test on lesser pitching so as not to get discouraged, and then try the ML again when he has it figured out. For another team. The Sox have invested too much in him to do that now. If they were gonna do it 2010 would have been the time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 06:00 AM) MLB Never complains about "low playoff ratings". Other people complain about them and then pretend they're important (since they're used to other sports like the NBA and NFL where playoff ratings are a huge fraction of the revenue). Since you know, the World Series airs in the Fall, and FOX gives low rated shows such a short leash during the new Fall season. I hope the World Series doesn't get replaced by extra episodes of Kitchen Nightmares....
