Oh boy.

I could dig a one year deal. He probably won't be looking for more. And with a weak pitching market he could look to cash in. Plus if he pitches well, we could offer a QO.

The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I would be surprised if the Sox aren't one of those teams. Groundball pitcher who has good control, sign me up. Bummer on missing on Edwin Jackson. Sounds like we could've had him at the league minimum since the Cubs are paying him around $13 million I think? Yeah Marlins only owe him league minimum. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) This week, things should start picking up again. The only thing is Wednesday, usually the Sox big announcement day is probably a no no this week with the HOF announcement. Probably very little negotiating going on since right before Christmas. If teams sign a big name, they want to make a big deal out of it. Signing someone during the holiday season probably ruins any chance at a big press conference and cuts down the publicity of the deal, nevermind all the agents, players and front office people have families, and most have obligations during this time. I'd be surprised if we went another week without one of these guys signing. Agree these guys are going to hold out for best possible deal. I wouldn't be shocked if they were still unsigned 2 weeks from now.

In my opinion I'd say our situation is worse with LaRoche since we are trying to compete while worst case scenario for them is they keep them on the bench for one year. They aren't winning or losing their division despite having them or not having them. Plus taking them on for a year helped them get rid of Chris Johnson's 2 remaining seasons. And combined they make $29 mil this year with the Indians paying 10 of that so only 19 mill. I think they will end up eating some money and moving Bourn while just eating Swisher's remaining one year (what they did with Quentin) or just keeping him on the bench.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) This thread has been so quiet and slow lately. There's nothing to talk about and it's a holiday weekend so posters are doing other stuff with their lives.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) The question i have is say the Sox sign Desmond to a 1 yr deal would he be eligible to be a qualifying offer free agent again next year if he performs well. really can't find the rules stating what is the requirements. Other idea tho is sign him to a 2 year deal with a opt out after 1st year then I believe for sure can qualify for offer. If you look at kazmirs deal it's for 3 years but can opt out after the first year and I'm pretty sure one of the baseball guys said he can get a qualifying offer again. There are no requirements. They could offer him one as long as he stays on team for the year.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Jones is signed through the '18 season. 2016 30 Baltimore Orioles $16,333,333 8.139 2017 31 Baltimore Orioles $16,333,333 2018 32 Baltimore Orioles $17,333,333 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts Ah 32 year old free agent. Just like McCutchen who I believe is in that same class. That class is loaded.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Does Avi Garcia have a option to go to minors 2016? Yes.
-
How long is Adam Jones signed for? If I was an O's fan I wouldn't want money tied into someone like Davis and would rather re-sign Jones when the time comes.
-
Looking at the remaining free agents, you can make a pretty good lineup out of the guys still available minus maybe catcher. 1B: Davis 2B: Kendrick 3B: Freese SS: Desmond LF: Gordon CF: Cespedes RF: Upton DH: insert other name here

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) Bold prediction! ? I meant to say pages..d'oh!

Yep. This thread will get 100 pages before someone even signs.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) Nightengale will be on 670 this morning, 9:20 Can't really imagine him saying anything we don't know already.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 04:53 AM) Lazaro Armenteros: Armenteros, 16, stands 6-2, 205 pounds and has been hailed as the next Cuban star-in-waiting. He established residency in Haiti in May and will attract a crowd when he begins auditioning for teams in showcases and private workouts in the coming months. Last I had read about him was that they were not sure if he would be part of the 15 or 16 class. If 15 class, he's a Dodger or Cub but if he's 16 we have a shot.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) I'd really feel good about our offseason if we got Frazier, Lawrie and Cespedes and still have 3 top 50 picks. Along with not trading too many prospects. Micah had no position, who knows what Trayce will be, and Montas I still believe will end up a reliever. And the other guys we traded for Lawrie I didn't really care about.
-
I like the Edwin Jackson idea. Would only cost league minimum.
-
Move to Upton and give him opt out clauses after years 3 and 4 or something. Maybe a 5th as well.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) Jimmy Rollins is probably tired of baseball after playing 37 games a day in 2015. Lmao -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Isn't his average about $28 million the first 3 years? Then he could opt out. He is risking about $16 million with a chance to make a lot more. If he is great, Theo probably lets him walk, and gets 3 prime years out of him, and doesn't have to pay for the decline. I still think he is going to start hitting homers, but his defense will fall off a bit. 245 pound guys legs don't age all that well IMO. Agree I think he will hit for some more power and his defense will decline in center though I still believe he is in RF come opening day.
-
That's all if he even opt outs as was pointed out and thrown at me yesterday in the Kazmir thread. But if he's healthy and produces he'll opt out for sure.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) I understand that, I assumed people would understand I meant that the past two weeks have taken from my normal life. Even when I am at work I'm checking on the latest news. Pretty sure everyone realizes the world doesn't revolve around baseball rumors but it's hard to focus on real life which is why I would love to get a conclusion to this thing. So my productivity can increase in the other facets of my life that matter That's true. I do tend to do most of my checking at work when it's slow.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) The Heyward signing was thought to be the first domino, but I believe that the structure of his contract with the opt out slowed things down. These guys may be looking for a similar option...especially Upton because of his age. Also, as someone else mentioned, there aren't a ton of teams lining up to get these guys. There are probably only a half dozen teams that are really serious about them. I know we're all anxious for a signing, but it's looking more and more like we'll be waiting another week or so. I just hope that when the dust settles, the Sox will have signed one of the big three. I don't think the opt out has really anything to do with slowing things down. Maybe for Upton's case but not the other 2. Or the second tier free agents.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Honestly I just want someone to sign so the other dominos start to fall. The past two weeks have been useless for me, all I do is check back on here and Twitter to see what's going on. For the sake of sanity I hope the market starts to move after this holiday weekend. I hope we end up with one of the three but really would just like a conclusion. This board needs it just as bad too I think. There is life outside baseball offseason rumors just to let everyone know.
