QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 05:55 AM) here is my problen. thinking of getting and investing in pitchers like Johnson or Anderson, I have one idea, but investing on a closer, I have another idea, and spending on a healthy pitcher I have another. I am like a fish out of the water flopping around like crazy. so here is my reasons. the sox need a pitchers who can start the season and give 170+ innings. someone who can walk in and be a #2-3 pitcher on the sox. (#1 on another team) I still like the idea of Johnson or Anderson for 2 yrs with the understanding that '15 is a arm strengthening and situational pitching. looking for the real time of '16. esp when Danks contract is done. this is a great investment for when the sox need a pitcher to step in, in Danks slot. pen pitchers, one key pitchers for me will be Tim Stauffer. I still have problems spending huge money on a closer when the sox may have options in the system 2 yrs from now. the pen needs pitchers but I like the overlap of Johnson and or Anderson filling in here strengthening their arm. I just don't like the idea of spending the money it would take to get an arm there. If they bring Johnson on and with Rodon coming up at some point they'd need to have someone who can log 200 innings since in your scenario uou are easing in Johnson and then Rodon will probably have a light workload. Also factor in starts where Q goes 5-6 innings which he did a lot last year it seemed due to high pitch count by those innings...bring back Buehrle!

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Santana is still young enough and productive enough to get a contract as a starter but the other guys, I agree should think about signing as a reliever given their history. Actually talking about Johan

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) I understand buying low off of the Tommy John scrap heap but if the Sox are really trying to " contend " then trade for or sign a pitcher that does not have recent health issues. No Floyd, Johnson, Billingsley, etc. Sign or trade for a starter that can give the Sox 180+ IP in 2015. I'm really starting to think the Sox should go after Volquez big time. He fits right in where the Sox have a gaping hole. Edit: just wanted to add that Anderson is probably the worst idea of the injured group. Anderson has not pitched over 100 innings since 2010. Noooo thank you. Some of these guys should try to become relievers. I wouldn't mind signing Anderson or Santana to be a lefty reliever if either was open to giving it a shot

QUOTE (lord chas @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) What a stud Abreu will be for years. Too bad media types like Kaplan and Haugh have Theo's wang in their mouths and are too busy to acknowledge there is already a superstar in Chicago I think Haugh is a Sox fan but Kap is awful. I don't think he has ever said anything good about the Sox

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) I hate to burst your bubble guys but I doubt we get Snydergaard for ramirez. If ramirez was younger and under contract longer then that might happen. If they wanted to give up their no 1 prospect and 10th best in all of baseball then they would be getting starlin castro, elvis andrus or troy tulowitzki. It would be like if the Mets had ramirez and we gave up carlos rodon for him. I doubt you guys would be happy with that. We should get a top prospect if we are moving him. I would say montero, bullpen arm and lower level prospects would be more in line. Because for those guys they'd be paying even more than just Syndergaard -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ .v 13, 2014 -> 07:44 AM) If all the truly elite talent is snatched up for over the limit doesn't the signing period then just become a huge crapshoot betting on 16 yrs olds and how they develope ? I'd rather grab this kid for that reason. I'm ok with not grabbing a couple 16 year olds the next couple of seasons.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Guerra and Belisario were maligned enough... League, MAYBE. But Wilson, not much interest. His performance really declined, as well as his velocity, in 2014. I'd love to get JP Howell from their bullpen but probably unlikely.

Alexei: great defense, solid bat and only 10 mill each for next 2 years -

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) I don't think they're getting Hanley and it seems like they really want Alexei and is their best bet. They're not trading for Tulo either. Ok maybe not stuck so to speak but he's their best bet IMO. Yeah I don't see them signing a Lowrie or Cabrera type either. They just surrendered their first round pick for 2 years of Cuddyer. They want to be competitive, possibly win soon. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) I would say that, at most, we could get them to budge on Syndergaard straight up, since he is coming off a down year. I cannot imagine any scenario where we end up getting Harvey, and Wheeler would be a clear overpay IMO. Yeah seeing as though they have had success in the MLB, I would agree it would probably Syndergaard -

I think they end up budging and we get either Syndergaard, Wheeler or Harvey straight up. Mets have a lot of depth with the three vets in Gee, Niese, Colon, then 2 of the 3 depending on who is traded, de Grom and Montero and a few other guys in the top 10 -

ESPN's Adam Rubin now saying Mets and Mariners could be trade partners with the Mariners sending over Chris Taylor or Brad Miller but it would seem more likely if the Mariners sign Hanley. -
I read that Johan Santana is still trying to make a comeback. He's someone I'd be willing to bring in as a reliever if he is willing to be one, which he should be if he ever wants to stay healthy again.
-
If Andrew Miller was the only missing piece I'd be all in for him. Having holes at DH, LF (maybe RF since we don't really know what Avi is yet) and having to find a starter or two, he's not the missing piece.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Throwing $lol + ∞years at relief pitching via free agency is a terrifying way to build a team. I think I prefer the "throw enough s*** at a wall and some is bound to stick" method. I agree. Bring in as many lefties on minor league deals as possible (try to bring one in for Beckham as the ptbnl from that deal).

White Sox focused on RH SP, LH bat, bullpen

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) The idea was fine. The execution - Kotsay - was poor. Ozzie was an incredibly bad evaluator. Yeah it didn't work because Kotsay isn't an everyday player. No way should he have ever gotten 70-80% of at bats. I thought Andruw Jones did fine though as the right handed part of the platoon. -
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) I just don't see the Sox signing Scherzer for $170-$200 mil. Save that money for Sale's eventual extension which will most likely be in the $100 mil plus if he keeps on pitching the way he's been pitching. He doesn't have to sign an extension until what, 2019?
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) I would think almost every team is interested in him Yeah. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get $10 mill a season even. Relievers are so inconsistent I don't think he'd be worth the investment.
-
I see him getting anywhere between 3-4 years at 8 or 9 a year. I think I'd just bring back Cotts who was solid the past two years.

Looking at the list of pitching depth I made earlier, I forgot about the Rookie of the Year de Grom. They can't spare 1 or 2 young arms? They seem stacked on pitching. -

Proposal: John Danks for Howie Kendrick

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) interesting stats on kendrick, plus 9+ mil for a last yr. why not Danks, May and Beck. I'd do that deal and then flip him -
Proposal: John Danks for Howie Kendrick
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) The Sox would have to give up some actual talent for Kendrick, even moreso if the Angels are taking on Danks, and Kendrick is a one year rental at a position where the Sox want to audition farm guys. Seems pretty unlikely. If they were able to put off a Danks for Kendrick swap somehow, they could always look to flip him somewhere else as he'd be easier to move than Danks.
