Right. You think with what the Sox gave up that the Cubs would have eaten some salary.
I always figured if any young guy from the core was dealt it would be for another SP or a RF (with control). I guess with Lynn extending and Kopech sliding into the rotation next year there really isn't a hole in the rotation next year though (as of now that is).
The MLBTR article on this mentions that players that are injured on the 40-man roster in the minors can not be place on outright waivers and they can't claimed so the only thing a team can do is release him or add him to the MLB roster only to put him on the MLB IL. It's pretty common for a team to release the player and re-sign him to a minor league (Tyler Johnson just like 10 days ago) where they are not holding down a 40-man spot.
Huh? Teams do this all the time. I was just reading on MLBTR that an injured minor league player can't be placed on waivers and claimed so it's a pretty normal move to release and re-sign them to a minor league deal.
I think Lamb will be here the rest of the way. Hamilton comes back September 1 as one of the extra roster spots but Lamb does not make the playoff roster.
With Gonzalez being hurt for the year, he would probably go unclaimed so I think he would be a good dfa candidate. Or like someone else said, release him and re-sign him to a minor league deal like they did recently with Tyler Johnson.
