  1. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) There's also generally larger Japanese populations so it might just be more comfortable or they already have friends or family there. Oh yeah that's true. Definitely a duh moment from me. Thanks.
  2. I don't really get the whole West Coast draw for Japanese players. Theres maybe one break in the season where he would be able to go back home and if he is an All-Star, he wouldn't be able to go home anyway. Is it more for family to visit?
  3. QUOTE (gosoxtim8 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) the padre has one person that could bring otani it and that nomo Takashi Saito also works in the front office in some role.
  4. I'm sure Marlins would rather trade with the Cardinals since they are willing to eat more money and they have a better farm system. But it's all on Stanton.
  5. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) Is Ohtani the most hyped newcomer, perhaps, ever? I don't recall there being that much intrigue in a new guy. The scouting report, the foreign media following, and the way he picks his teams, the buzz is unreal. It's because of his situation being so unique. A top talent coming over with basicly every team having some sort of chance.
  6. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) I understand that the teams are the ones announcing when they are out, but how are the Cubs still in and the White Sox out? Neither are on the West coast Cubs are a bigger market when he wants small market He didn't want a team that was already established He could get DH at bats with the Sox but would have to play the field with the Cubs We have Don freaking Cooper I knew we were a long shot, but seeing the Cubs still in it gets me mad It's entirely possible it just hasn't leaked out yet. They could be out.
  7. Yeah my prediction is Hector Rondon is the Sox closer to open the year.
  8. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 04:30 AM) It isn’t paying $10M for the 33rd pick. They’re paying James Shields that money either way. The question is would you rather have Shields or the 33rd pick and the answer seems obvious. Yep.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) That is why I was surprised about Petricka. Could these guys still be resigned to deals? Yeah they could bring them back on minor league deals.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) I understand him being leery of the Giants. They had a fantastic run, but last year wasn't all that surprising (few changes to an aging team often results in a great big thud) and I don't see how they get better any time soon. They're really not an old team though. They have a lot of position players still in their prime. Pence and Span are going to platoon so that limits their at bats. I do agree that they seem closer to rebuilding than going on another run of championships.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Mildly surprised by Petricka, a bit more surprised by Hansen, the other two not as much. Not surprised by Hansen at all.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 08:30 AM) ESPN.com has an article on him, trying to figure out where he wants to go. It has if he wants this he will choose that, if he wants that he will choose this scenerios . They mentioned just about every team except the White Sox. Of course it is 50/50 at best whether ESPN knows the White Sox exist. That's so funny because I feel like the Sox check off a lot of his boxes.
  13. So they couldn't get rid of Hanson sooner even though hes pre-arb?
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) Petricka non-tendered per Cotillo. As much as I wanted this, I'm shocked.
  15. So what's his guarantee contract? $7 million in 18 and 19 with $1 mill buyout?
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) The more I hear about bringing the team to glory, the more I think SD is where he goes. I think his agent is based there. West Coast. Rebuilding team with some talent, and hard to beat the weather. Although if that is BS, the Yankees have to have the upper hand, and he did almost sign with the Dodgers out of HS> They also have a few former Japanese players in the front office as well.
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) At some point over the last week, I referenced how I had read that many feel he wants to sign with a team that hasn't had a Japanese star in the past. Someone asked for a link but at the time, I'd forgot where I saw it. MLBTR referenced this again today: I think that was me lol but yeah that is speculation until Ohtani or his agents confirm that.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) But we didn't scout him!!!!!!! No interest/green
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Chuck Garfien‏Verified account @ChuckGarfien Following Following @ChuckGarfien More Hahn said White Sox submitted a presentation to Otani earlier this week. He thinks it's "a long shot" they'll be able to sign him. "We'll give it our best shot. You pretty much have to give it a shot. Hopefully he's really into the idea of a great training staff, really young core and regular at-bats.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) yes...still think it was a curious move not protecting Peter and Guerrero, and Polo to a lesser degree. Pretty sure Alburquerque will be non tendered today, and Hanson and May would have been easy cuts. Yeah there was and still is plenty of bait to cut.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Definitely doesn't hurt that Castillo hits right handed and Collins left handed. Castillo murders lefties, Collins struggles against them. Yeah and if its going to be one area you're gonna have a platoon, I think catcher's spot would be ideal since catchers sit more regularly anyway. Definitely a big fan of having different handedness behind the plate.
  22. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) Sweet, now I just have to spend the next three weeks constantly refreshing MLBTR..... Lol sounds like what I do at work when it is our non-busy season. Fortunately, second week of December falls in that time!
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) But again, some of those spots may be filled by people that are actually going to be a part of the active roster next year. I still don't like potentially losing some in the Rule 5 draft. We're only talking about the guys who are eligible to be taken, not all prospects.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) This is one of the benefits to not having all of your prospects on the 40, we can cut one of the people we were shocked by leaving on and expose them to waivers without caring. We could have fit some of the others on since some will be non-tendered today.
