QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) I'll agree with you on that^ I don't really see JBJ being a good fit for the White Sox right now. With only three seasons of control remaining (his more expensive arbitration years too) I would not be inclined to part with significant prospects for him. 2018 and likely 2019 are not our window to compete, wasting most of the time he would be under contract. If I am dealing Avi or Abreu I would want younger, cost controlled players in return. Where did the idea of JBJ or Abreu even come from? I haven't seen that suggested anywhere other than this site. I think Bradley ends up getting moved for someone like Salazar (just an example, but someone with a few years of control) in a 1-for-1 swap. And that only happens if the Red Sox land a power corner outfield bat.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:53 AM) We have four years of control left with him. I’d give him the 3B job to start the year and then reevaluate things at the trade or more likely in next offseason. No reason to rush a trade with him when there’s a chance we may need him. Oh absolutely. I love him in as a bench piece that can start regularly if needed for injury. Was just tossing out teams that might be willing to pay for him. I know the Angels farm isn't stacked, but they aren't rebuilding during the Trout era.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:44 AM) He will get the same type of contract that any draft pick or international amateur free agent. The money that everyone keeps throwing around is the amount of the signing bonus that he can get. After than each team would have the same contract with him that would be six years of control with the first three at basically league minimum and the next three going through arbitration. Teams can sign him to an extension to buy out his arb years and maybe more and that contract could be for a good amount of money, but the question everyone is asking is how long does a team have to wait to offer that extension so that the league allows it and how is the league going to make sure that extension talks don't happen during the initial signing as a way to circumvent the rules. For example, the league probably wouldn't allow an extension after Ohtani's first game because they would say that it was probably agreed to during the initial signing. Likewise, they probably won't allow a contract that offers $200 mil for 5 years after his first year because that is more than can be expected in arb and doesn't get any free agent years, meaning it was probably agreed to during the initial signing. So long story short, whoever gets him gets him for 6 years on the same contract anyone from the minors gets but he will probably sign an extension at some point but no one knows when it will be allowed. I don't think it really matters about when but also more about for how much. Like Tim Anderson, he could sign after 2018 and sign a 5-year deal that pays him just a bit extra the first 2 years (pre-arb) and then buys out his 3 years of arbitration (so overall, a 5-year deal) as long as it's within reason. I would expect him to want to go to free agency as early possible since he is already forfeiting millions coming early anyway. At the same time, who knows if he would even want that early extension since he could theoretically earn more going year-to-year in arbitration. -
I wonder if the Angels would be interested in Sanchez. They have a big hole at 2B.

QUOTE (Real @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:43 AM) So can the Sox sign him to a multi-year deal? I know they can only spend up to 300k on him when they sign him, but that's one year. How would a multi-year deal work? Can you spread an international contract out past your money cap of 300k? Assuming they can, it would have to look something like, 4 years 70 million year 1 300,000 year 2 21,700,000 year 3 23,000,000 year 4 25,000,000 I have no idea how much money he's going to get, so don't put any stock into the 70 million The $300k is a signing bonus. Then he goes through the 6 years of control like everyone else who comes up through the minors. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) They don’t announce non-tenders until that date. Remember last year when we thought they were going to let Lawrie go, but it didn’t happen. It is a good question though- if they intend to nontender a player, why not DFA them before the prospect protection date to protect more players? I was just thinking that and maybe it has something to do with their status of being arbitration players. Like they can't be released, dfa'd, waived and only non-tendered on this date. Of course, I could be wrong but it sure seems that way.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) I actually thought that his recently stated position showed some change. Seems to me that ( at least in that post ), he's on board with the same plan that management is executing. I noticed that in a thread about two weeks ago and then last week saw him going off about us wanting to trade Abreu and Avi again like he doesn't understand why so who knows lol

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) Why won't you guys comment on my position and my post? I really want to hear what out of all my position entails is wrong or not at least very logical. Because we've been commenting on your position for almost a year now. We are kinda tired of it. It's not our fault you ignore what we say and continue to blindly post.

White Sox add Houston Scout to Player Dev Staff

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Houston has been shedding scouts, I'm assuming they are replacing them with analysts. Anyhoo, in August when that started we talked about wanting sox to add those guys. it appears we have added one. I recall that as well. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) I'm a little biased when it comes to the medical reasons but they should really push this. The kid is young, has had injury issues and will really need to work to adjust to the MLB schedule. The medical staff should be important to him, whether he thinks so or not. It is: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/shoh...-mlb-teams.html See number 2. Plus the Sox are really good about breaking in young arms. Carry a guy in long-relief who can start and go with a 6-man rotation occasionally and skip guys to provide more rest. -
Is there some sort of rule where they have to wait til this week to non-tender players? I would think if they non-tendered anyone, it would have happened to make room to protect prospects on the 40.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeyman 9m9 minutes ago plan is for ohtani to be posted friday. interested teams must commit to paying the nippon ham fighters 20M. ohtani hasn't been about the $ but the teams with the most international $ to spend are tex (3.53M), nyy (3.5M), minn (3M), pitts (2M) and sfg (1.8M). I'm expecting either Yankees, Mariners or Rangers to sign him. Hope the Yankees don't. -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) As reliable as a nebulous unquantifiable stat based formula in my opinion...yes. Both are based on judgments that aren't 100% accurate but in this case I trust what I see far more. As much as I might agree with you on this, the eye test shows he really isn't a bad base runner IMO.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Machado and Harper? Cmon. The Sox do not sign guys to 10 year deals. They just don't. Wanting to sign those guys is dreamland. It's not based anywhere close to reality. Tell me names of guys Sox fans want to pay 15 mill a year to for 5 years or so. I'll point out flaws in those players. Hosmer? Not enuf power. Moustakas? Injury risk cause of conditioning. Cain? Too old. Those are just some examples. Abreu? Too old. Avi? Flash in the pan. He'll never repeat those stats. This wasn't the point. You said no one here says we should sign established players. That is not true.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) The more he continues to insist that money means literally nothing to him, the more it becomes actually realistic for any AL team to land him. It makes me really sad and disappointed that there are no outward signs that the White Sox are really trying. Obviously that doesn't mean they aren't under the radar, but it would just be so nice to see a public effort a la the Mariners so that we could legitimately hope. Yeah as nice as it would be, it's not really strange since they usually operate that way of flying under the radar. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 12:15 AM) What about JBJ for Avi swap? How far off is that? Doesn't seem to make sense. Red Sox would move Bradley to make room for a power bat like Martinez or Stanton to play LF and move Benintendi to CF. I could see some sort of Bradley for a pitcher with similar years of control straight up swap or Bradley for prospects.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 11:42 PM) You'd want Melky over Avi? I still am waiting to see what established (non prospects) baseball players you guys think are good players and want on your team (and don't list anybody making a good dollar cause we know Sox fans don't want to pay anybody). Modern day fans slay me. Eventually I'm gonna give up and just lurk on here. I am growing weary of defending White Sox baseball players who have been in the bigs a few years. In the sense that you'd have to give up good prospects for 2 years of one (who has had only had one great season among a lot of meh) instead of just a small amount of cash for the other for one or two years, yes.
-
I don't really view Bradley as a "rebound" type of player and I kinda doubt the Red Sox do either. Despite hitting for a lower average than 2016, He still put up close to a 3 WAR season. I know his 2017 was nowhere near as good as 16 but it's not like he was useless.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) Is that Ohtani's actual questionnaire or something that the people at MLB Network came up with as regards to an outline as to what Ohtani may be asking for? Because it seems more like the latter. It's Ohtani's actual questionnaire. Link: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/shoh...-mlb-teams.html -

Looks For A Match In A Jose Abreu Trade

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Giving our front office a "pass" would mean to let them keep doing what they had been doing and NOT selling. Which is exactly what you want Greg.. Sounds like you're giving them the pass.. But oh well.. the incoherence is confusing. Bingo.
