  1. Would be nice if one of the AL teams that can spend more signs him or Otani leaving the other one still available. You'd have to think Maitan would be more likely to take the largest bonus than Ohtani who is already forfeiting hundreds of millions of dollars already and is looking for specific opportunities (teams that will let him pitch and hit).
  2. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:46 PM) A's just traded their 1B away and plan to move Khris Davis to DH. So now they have an opening in the OF for a right-handed hitting corner outfielder, but I don't know if the trade signals that they are rebuilding or if they are happy with Matt Chapman and Matt Olson in the infield corners. It appears to be the latter. They like Chapman and Olson.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Can we please get rid of the idea that this is Takatsu or Tadahito? This isn't a mediocre and older free agent that isn't attracting much interest in the US. This is quite literally the biggest free agent play in he history of Japanese baseball. It isn't to be enough to get by on watching video's on Kenny's PC. There is zero to indicate the White Sox are involved at all, including their own actions. If there was anything other than WELL THEY COULD BE to go off of here, I could respect it, but there is quite literally zero, and meanwhile a most of the rest of baseball is doing stuff. It's a lot more fun to talk about than the boring off-season we're about to endure. You keep doing you and we'll keeping talking Ohtani If you don't like us talking about how cool it would be to see him on our squad, then why even click in this thread?
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) Yeah you mean the Hahn quote? That seemed to be the case, but nothing official. Hard to say. He'd be hard to keep on an MLB roster for a year, but maybe worth the risk for $100k? I don't know. Yeah I don't think anyone would take him just for him to sit on the bench for majority of a season. With pitchers, it's easier to hide them in the bullpen since you can pick and choose their spots a lot easier.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) I guess one way to operate under the radar is to not go see or scout the guy you are trying to sign. Yep because the Sox haven't done that before or anything. Look, none of us are saying nor predicting he will come here. Just that there is a case to be made that a match could make sense for both he and the Sox and it would be dumb not to try.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) It kind of does. It is kind of hard to sign a guy who you aren't trying to sign, especially when you have teams of every size and shape trying to give the guy anything he wants to come here. If the Sox really want him, they sure have a funny way of showing it. Who says they aren't trying? The Sox normally operate below the radar.
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Supposedly there is a lot of interest between Alex Cobb and the Cubs. This match seems like a no-brainer IMO. Although, any discussion I've had with Cubs fans about what they think they're going to do this off-season, they say, "We're going to sign Cobb and trade for Archer" just because they hired the Rays' pitching coach lol the Cobb part I agree with. I imagine a deal for Archer starts with Happ and then one of Russel, Baez, Schwarber as Archer is very valuable to the Rays and they are not rebuilding.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Bob Nightengale‏Verified account @BNightengale 2h2 hours ago MLB wants to reach an agreement with the players union and umpires union by mid January on a pitch clock and pace of play procedures You step out of the box, you get a strike. Really unnecessary to have to adjust your batting gloves after the pitch you just took.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) James Fegan‏ @JRFegan 1h1 hour ago When asked to highlight an under the radar White Sox prospect people should pay attention to, Hahn named infielder Jake Peter No way they don't protect him.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Source? RaBBit, you know anything about our level of interest?
  11. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Fowler, Luzardo and Lazarito is my big ask. Gotta start high for sure.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) In the NL he can bat on days when he pitches, get pinch hit opportunities on his days off and maybe start in the field one game a week or so, because there's no way teams are going to want him making max effort throws from the outfield on the days right after he pitches and the day before he pitches. However he hasn't played in the outfield since 2014 so I doubt any team is going to have him do it anyway. In the AL he can DH 3-4 games per week without having to tax his arm in the field. That will add up to more opportunities to bat than he can get in the NL unless an NL team is willing to use him irresponsibly which I don't see happening. Enter Joe Maddon lol
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) The theory is he can DH on his off days. Having him actually play the field in between starts may be a problem. I don't think the White Sox have a chance in hell of getting this guy either. But if he is already giving up $100 million, what's a few more? This. Do NL teams really want to risk sticking him in the OF? Or contending teams guaranteeing him at bats? Probably not.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) I know people want this guy, but there hasn't been a single sign that the White Sox are in play here. Not a single one. Even in hypothetical land, anything the White Sox can offer, someone else can offer more of. They don't have cap space, they don't have tradition, they aren't a contender, they don't have a large Japanese community, they don't have much of a tradition of having Japanese players when compared to other teams, etc. At this point he is a unicorn as far as the White Sox are concerned. Besides at-bats most likely if he wants to try the 2-way player thing.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Everyone is "trying". Teams are trying to make an impression on the guy anyway possible. They are trying to figure out what the guy really wants in an MLB City and trying to sell that to his camp in anyway possible. He hasn't even been posted yet, so the fee hasn't even started to come into play. While true, I doubt he's thinking, "This team didn't come see me. They must not really want me." If teams are negotiating with him, they clearly want him. I don't think it's as much of an impact as you are making it to be.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) Lazarito please Is this a guy we all wanted at some point? Name sounds familiar.
  17. Twins voided the contract of one of their international signings. He didn't pass his physical. The agreement was for a $3 million bonus.
  18. It would awesome if he signs with the Sox but I'm going to predict Rangers.
  19. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) The A’s always do things that are counterproductive to their rebuild, I’m not surprised that they’d try and buy Avi. Although, it makes a little more sense, because Avi has 2y left of control. But, then again, they traded for Jon Lester to try and beat the unstoppable regular season Angels at that point. Same with 2008 and Matt Holliday. lol traded their best run producer for him.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:58 AM) Considering what they would have to pay him, and what kind of revenue he would generate just from Japan, $20 million is something JR would love to pay. I would think so too.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) Well sure, because they just trade him, because the league always bails the Tigers out of their bad contract decisions. Well it's possible he would have opted out if he stayed in Detroit. And his contract really isn't too bad. Its not like that Fielder or Cabrera one.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:46 AM) http://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/A-...-s-12357838.php The A’s have most of their lineup set but want to add a right-handed-hitting outfielder, and it was learned they have interest in Avisail Garcia of the White Sox, or at least that type of player. Garcia, 26, is coming off a breakout season and was a first-time All-Star, hitting .330 with 18 homers and 80 RBIs in 136 games. Chicago GM Rick Hahn said he’s open to trading Garcia and first baseman Jose Abreu, both of whom are under club control through 2019. It doesn't appear to make sense for the A's since it seems like they are rebuilding but they always do this kind of stuff so in a way, it does make sense since Garcia is cheap and that's kind of how Oakland has to operate. Also, I'll save everyone a bit of time: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=oak
  23. Is it also possible that JR wouldn't want to pay the $20 million posting fee if he did sign with us? Aren't the Sox paying Robert this year?
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) While I agree with this point, I’m not sure it really matters when you’re talking about a player of his reputation and a $300k signing bonus. They’ve certainly seen enough tape of him to confirm that he’s worth $300k. More likely than not though the front office simply doesn’t think he’ll accept such a small bonus when other teams can offer several million more and don’t think it’s worth wasting the time/resources. I think that would be pretty foolish as it’s not like we’re going to have an overly active winter. Defintiely worth the Hail Mary shot IMO. What's the Rangers situation looking like? I know they have higher amount to spend on him but I'm unsure of their DH situation. Is Choo the primary DH on that team? Edit: just looked into it. Seems to be a lot of variables (trading Profar, who is out of options, deciding if Calhoun will come up at some point early on, if Gallo is the 1B or not, etc.)
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) If you want to make an impression that you want him more than every other team in baseball, the first thing to do would be that. Is it confirmed he sat down with a representative from every team that saw him?
