  1. What were the Pirates to do, hold onto him and have him get hurt again?
  2. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 12:27 PM) Go with Shields to build up his trade resume. Naming him the opening day starter might help make a team or two still think he has value. Any GM that thinks being named "Opening Day starter" increases his value should be fired.
  3. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 01:34 PM) Maybe there is an extension in the works... Also I don't think Jose really cares much about projected contracts, considering where he's coming from. The projected contracts are based off of what similar players have done and got paid. Why wouldn't he and his agent care?
  4. I had another post in this thread going off the basis we opened at home...forgot we are on the road. Brain fart. Assuming no one is skipped the first time through the order, the #2 starter pitches home opener.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 06:47 PM) Whenever this thread ends, I predict the last post will be from Kagaku saying, "My Wife left me." QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 01:06 PM) And his winnings will be cut in half. LMAO
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:06 PM) And yet the Red Sox couldn't find power for their lives last year, re-signed Moreland who was a part of that, and who behind Martinez would provide it? I actually like the Moreland signing for them. Way better value than signing Hosmer. But yeah, not really a power guy.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:04 PM) I mean most of the AA guys are gonna move up right? Kopech, Stephens Guerrero Adams. Then you have danish possibly or some minor league fa And possibly Covey. Is Danish mostly viewed as a reliever right now?
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:01 PM) Greg, parking is $20. Only $10 on Sundays though. Also, for the price of beer, isn't it about $12 for a 22oz beer? That doesn't seem TOO bad to me honestly. That's almost 2 cans/bottles.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:59 PM) Who else is likely bound for the rotation at Charlotte other than Kopech? Not really sure but also a good point. Charlotte probably also need starters.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:57 PM) And you wonder why people think you're a troll. Stop trolling, and maybe people will stop calling you a troll. And FYI his peripherals aren't very good, which is why he's a 5th starter on a one year 4.5 million dollar deal. Best case the Sox flip him for a lotto ticket in July. Yep...just as they did in 2017.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:40 PM) Why? Rodon and Kopech figure to be in the plans too. That's 7 total starters. After this signing, we have enough depth Doesn't hurt to bring in a veteran on a minor league deal to compete with Fulmer for a spot.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) Hack it. My buddy put 200 more games on his. I can find instructions if you need them I don't own it...yet. Can you send them to me? I'd appreciate it.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:41 PM) Miguel is OK by me. How were his peripherals before I decide whether he's good or not. I don't despise him or anything. As far as Shields/Opening Day. Geez. If he pitches Opening Day it's telling the world and our fans: "The White Sox wish to tank one more season. Please bear with us as we tank. And please enjoy your 25 dollar parking and 10 dollar beer. We are allowed to charge that while giving you James Shields one more season before we get good. That is all." The order of the rotation doesn't matter. It's probably a good business move to have him start opening day on a Thursday since the other 2 games on Saturday and Sunday could be Giolito and Lopez games that may draw some fans (though it is early April).
  14. Kind of amazing to me that the Super NES Classic doesn't have two of the best games on it: Sunset Riders and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:28 AM) Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it. I'm sure they will at times just to help the young arms and give more rest.
  16. So the rotation on opening day is shaped up to be: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Gonzalez, Shields (no specific order)?
  17. Jacob May dfa'd.
  18. I think the fact that it is a MLB deal is just goodwill by the organization since they seem to like Miguel.
  19. I'd give them 24-hours to accept my offer. If he doesn't accept, pull it. They (JD and Boras) will come crawling back.
  20. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:52 AM) I'm okay with this. Better than Covey. Is this a minor league deal? MLB deal.
  21. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:19 AM) Wonder if this means Saladino's back is still an issue. If Yolmer at third and Leury in CF, no back up SS. If everyone healthy, get AAA at bats. Although those guys would be starting, they would still be backup options at SS. Yolmer would just slide over to short with Davidson at 3B or Engel (or other 4th OF) plays CF with Garcia at SS.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:54 AM) If it means getting Everth Cabrera out of organization it's a great move. He hasn't been in our organization since July.
  23. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) This is completely anecdotal but I actually worked at a Wal-Mart for about 3 years in the early 2000s. I don't remember how much I was actually making, probably around $7/hour or so. Maybe $8/hour. It was simply a second job for me so I didn't care all that much. Most of the people I worked with were either younger (HS/college age) and didn't have a family to support or were a second income for their family. Their spouse worked somewhere else and made decent enough money. Most of the people that were the main bread-winnners for their family were in supervisor or management positions where they made more money. According to one of the articles I read the average salary for their full-time workers is already $13. So I wonder what percentage of their workforce this will actually affect. I also read that the bonus is UP TO $1000 based on service time. Only employees with 20 years of service will get the full $1000. This is exactly how these types of jobs are supposed to be unless you are in management at the company, IMO. Of course you aren't going to be paid great.
  24. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:09 AM) Really going out on a limb here huh Bet the house on it!
