QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) I still love Loki, but Vulture is definitely up there I really enjoyed the entire scene I think that was my favorite scene. I like that the villain wasn't just a copy/paste of the hero (Iron Man fighting another guy in a metal suit, Hulk fighting Abomination, Ant-Man vs another guy who shrinks, Thor vs other God types. Black Panther appears to follow that style as well).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 06:58 AM) I saw it for the first time yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Nice addition to the MCU. I also think the Vulture is the best villain we've seen so far in this universe, IMO.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Was it a bad thing when the 82-80 Cardinals won? And then won the World Series haha

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) https://twitter.com/ChrisKuc/status/921486187507970048 Petricka elbow surgery. 3-4 months. Whatever. Lol It doesn't happen enough in the season he has to get hurt in the off-season.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) You should really realize how young some of these players are before saying some of this stuff especially cause a lot of it isn't true. And if it was, wouldn't you be ecstatic that your team could make it that far with half of your core being like you say they are? Yeah going to the NLCS three years in a row with one of those years being a World Series win isn't bad at all. No matter how bad the league competition may be.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) This is the second time you've brought Homer into a discussion that has nothing to do with it. Stop, you're loyalty to the royal blue is showing. Before you can ask, this was your first time. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=104044 Lol I noticed that as well and joke about it often. About how he somehow manages to bring the Royals into a lot of discussion that have nothing to do with them.

The returning bullpen guys will likely be Strop, Edwards, Montgomery (unless he's 5th starter), Justin Wilson, and probably Rondon (in a non-high leverage role). Gotta get 2 good arms. Duensing I guess could come back.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) Rizzo had a very good year. Is there a player more consistent? He hit 32 homers, 109 RBI this year; 32 hrs, 109 RBI also in 2016; 31 homers, 101 RBI in 2015 and 32 homers, 78 RBI in 2014. No way the Cubs will go for Hosmer if they have Rizzo. Wonder who wants Hosmer desperately? What?

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) I'm so happy the Tigers hired Gardy. He sucks and I hope detroit sucks for a long time too. They will suck for a while. No farm system, no huge trade pieces (unless they paid over half of Cabrera's contract down). -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Will be interesting to see who Seagar replaces. I think its an easy call: Granderson, Utley or Farmer. Any of those 3 is a good call. Edit: I wonder if they will use Seager to DH during the AL-hosted games. Then you can have Culberson at SS against lefties.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) I'm not sure 24, 25, or 26 makes the product better or worse...but here's what they could do... Get creative when it comes to service time and using your own 40-man roster throughout the season, and submit a daily 22-man roster. The term "September Callup" needs to go away forever. The product needs to be consistent from Day 1 to Day 186. Teams would just leave off the previous game's starter, the next game's starter, and the starter not scheduled to throw a side day that day.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Some thoughts: - I'm happy Granderson ended up striking out after the foul ball debacle - Culberson probably played better than Seager would have - Cubs fans should be pissed about Bryant's statements about being drained - Cubs have a much better shot at getting Otani than most think - I love Q but that was awesome last night. Way to continue to be a Sox legend It's the combo of Culberson and Granderson though as Taylor went back and forth between outfield and infield when with Seager, both aren't starting.

Still hoping Astros make it. Will cheer for them if they make it or Dodgers if Yankees win it.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Cubs Twitter is pretty pissed. What a grade trade by Hahn. Wish Q the best but man he has not had the impact they hoped. They wouldn't have gotten this far without him.

Imagine if they had a healthy Seager with Taylor in CF.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) I actually still think I feel more negative to the trade than I actually am. But what killed me about that deal was the fake one that was "reported" just before the real announcement that had Mateo, Florial and Adujar going back to Sox. I was at the game and got duped by it and nearly spit out my beer I was so happy. It was an infusion of super athletic position players. SO when it came back Rutherford, Clarkin and Polo, especially with Clippard basically just being a dump for cash, it was super disappointing. The road to development is long and winding, but I really want some production out of this group, from that trade. My post wasn't a take on if people thought it was negative or positive and I wasn't taking a position on it. Just a question I felt like tossing out since I have seen a lot of posts saying we didn't get enough (it does feel a little light but not really negative to the deal).
-
What do people think would have been an acceptable deal with the Yanks? Subtract Kahnle and Rutherford from the deal and its close? Replace Rutherford with a lower prospect than even Polo and Clarkin? Then we make Kahnle the closer post-trade and beginning of next season to flip at deadline?

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) That's debatable, you could say one more higher priced position player instead of a higher priced SP/RP. If teams free up money at one position they are going to spend it elsewhere to try and compete. That's true, but whichever player you are signing can likely sign with a lot of teams for a high price regardless. In the AL, there are 10 starting players in the lineup giving more opportunities for regular playing time (higher earnings through arbitration as well especially if they have good numbers) as opposed to 9. Edit: not sure if I explained this correctly, but it made sense when I was thinking about it lol

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) I was gonna post the same thing, but I had a differing thought. DH or no DH, the roster is 25 players. While removing the DH would cost certain sluggers their jobs, doesn't the existence of the DH take away a job from either an extra reliever or light-hitting defensive specialist? The same amount of jobs would be there, it would just take away a job from one type of player and hand it to a different type of player. Obviously the PA won't see it that way, but it didn't seem that cut and dry when I thought about it longer. It would be another higher-priced starting player in the lineup though as opposed to a 5th outfielder or extra infielder.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) What does Utley bring to the table? I was going to say experience and veteran leadership...which he would still bring to the table if he is left off the roster so I guess I don't know.

QUOTE (Latilleon @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Getting rid the American League and the National League would be foolish. Baseball is about history and it is the granddaddy of major leagues. The different conferences in the NHL and NBA are meaningless. When teams from the same big markets play either other in basketball and hockey, it's nothing special. The worst part about going to the proposed realignment, the World Series goes from being a special event allowing the best of the different leagues to play either other for the championship of baseball, it's just a team from the East versus a team from the west. I like the current separation. I like that the Sox and Cubs compete in different leagues. I don't want the Sox and Cubs to be divisional rivals. The Sox have three trips to the Pacific time zone two out of three years. Is travel really that big of a deal? They don't play one game on the road trip and head back. How about instead of 4 divisions of 8 teams, cutting each division in half to 4 teams creating 4 divisions in both leagues (teams in each)? Example: Midwest: Both Chicago franchises, Colorado, Houston, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Texas. Midwest AL: White Sox, Astros, Royals, Rangers. Midwest NL: Cubs, Rockies, Brewers, Cardinals.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) Earlier in this thread it said he could replace an injured player but then said replaced player would not be allowed on to a world series roster. Utley, Granderson and 3 catchers makes for an poorly constructed roster. Granderson is terrible. Yeah plenty of guys they can get rid of. I would think it would probably be Culberson or Farmer though.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) Is it just me or does Contrearas look like Miguel Cabrera up there? His stance is really similar. Thought the same as well.
