It depends on who is attempting to bunt. A guy with speed hitting barely .200 (cough cough Adam Engel cough), he should probably try to bunt for hits. There were a lot of time under Ventura when Eaton would be on second in the first inning and the number 2 hitter is bunting him over. Makes zero sense in that situation since the runner at second is a guy who can already score on a hit to the outfield.

That wouldn't matter since he doesn't accrue service time in the minors. I did always wonder if he wasn't on the 40 last year if he would have come up at all last year (Red Sox added him to their 40 a season prior so he had to be on ours).

The 2018 signing period is from 18-19. The signing period starts on July 2nd. It's not just all in one day. This is a trade of 2018 allotment as, said above, you can only trade the current year allotment.
