  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) LOL, Lackey and Contreras ejected in the 5th inning today. Anytime you can get both your starting pitcher and catcher ejected in the middle of a September pennant race game, that's impressive. First of 7 games in like the next two weeks between the two teams.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) I have to wonder about the mindset of some fands who continually call for the trading of our performer and then complain about young players who struggle. Avi Garcia is the prime example. He is young and always had talent. It took him awhile to put it together. He has this year and has not only sustained it but gotten better. Of course anyone and everyone is available at the right price but you need to build a winning team around a core group of veterans. Jose Abreu and Avi Garcia fit that category. Tim Anderson will be entering year three in the bigs. You don't trade unless it makes the team better than it was before the trade. Plus money should not be the Sox issue at this time. Plus I wouldn't mind the Sox looking at Todd Frazier gain in the off season. Davidson can play 3B-1B and DH and so can Todd. Plus the numbers are similar. We have no one in the minors quite ready for the jump yet. If Garcia had another year or 2 of control beyond the 2 seasons we have him for, there would be less talk of trading him. I also feel like signing him to an extension right now is premature. I would want to see if he at least starts next year off like this. If he's playing the same and they can't come to an agreement on an extension by July 31, trade him.
  3. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) wut Wrong thread? Yeah sorry. Referring to Abreu. Fixed my post.
  4. Definitely seems more likely that Abreu gets extended than traded.
  5. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) We should all be rooting for them to be unable to move that terrible contract. Well yeah haha I didn't say otherwise.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) No way in hell anybody takes on the $184M guaranteed to Miggy over the next 6. If he rebounds next year and has a good year the Tigers would still probably have to eat at least half to move him. Yeah that's what I would expect.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) The Tigers have had a nice run but alot of us Sox fans have seen the writing on the wall for a while. With those contracts, s***ty farm and under performing, it was inevitable. Where do you think Miggy ends up? I have to assume they try to move him this winter. I don't think he goes anywhere. I think they hold onto him and hope he rebounds a bit. For some reason, my gut tells me he ends up in Boston eventually.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Is it too early to name the Tigers with the first over all pick in the 2019 draft? Hopefully they suck for a while but man was their competitive window open for a while.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) Looks like someone is getting a Portillo's beef. Avi could go 1-47 and still be hitting .300. Someone was going to end up with one either way haha
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, I'm thinking that taking a young fast short stop and moving him to catcher where he's going to be squatting every game will do nothing but hurt his speed. If TA is to be moved from SS, which I don't agree with, it should be to the outfield where his speed would be better utilized. That said, IMHO, TA is right where he should be, at SS. Funny. As I was typing this post TA knocked in two with a single. And if they want him to catch, he would likely be in the minors for a few years. Outfield would be the logical move. I'm not advocating for a move just disagreeing with the catcher move.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) Greg was serious as TA's numbers were projecting OK for a catcher offensively not so much as a SS. TA is hot and I love it but some of you forget how badly he was hitting. HIs free swinging style, ala, Salvy Perez swinging at everything, made him an intriguing transformation candidate to catcher. I had my reasons. Ron is trolling big time. But you fail to understand that it's easier said than done to move someone to catcher who has likely never played the position.
  12. Whats up with this day game today? Yesterday was obvious and Tuesday was fine due to a concert at night but I don't get this one.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) I just want a star wars move that every time its on I'll sit and watch no matter what point it is just because I love the scenes and characters so much. I actually left thinking TFA was that, only to rewatch and it and just being super super bored. Like, I'll watch edge of tomorrow literally every time its on. I wanted that. I felt the same way.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) Wasn't Greg the person who said that originally? More proof Ron = Greg. Oh yeah you could be right.
  15. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) You've answered why this team isn't good enough to compete... with that roster lol "Bullpen - wing it" lmao
  16. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) Forgot about catcher. Tim Anderson will be the catcher You're still on this? lol
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) We'll be better. Bullpen being average may depend on whether Nate Jones exists for a year, but I think we are a little lucky with how stable they've been the last 2 months. I'd expect next year to be 2013/4 level frustrating from our pen. The only part of that is I may be underestimating some help from players currently in AA in our second half, or players like Bummer taking a leap. Something that absolutely 100% should not be counted on by anyone on this forum.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) The interesting trap the league could get caught up in is what if Otani signs for only 3-4 million and then has major contributions to a playoff team/WS team. There could totally be Sal Perez-esque stories highlighting how such a good player was the lowest paid on the team. The Royals soon after bumped up Perez' contract. What would league do here? Lot of what-ifs obviously but I fun to think about. I don't think the league would/could do anything about that. There are guys who make league minimum or close to it on teams that win the world series probably every year. Hell, last year's team had a decent amount of guys making less than that $3-4 mill.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) ESPN gone off the deep end. Jemele Hill calls the POTUS and his administration "white supremacists" and the people that voted for him were bigots. She was not suspended. Linda Cohn says ESPN has gotten too political. She was suspended. Wow that's stupid.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) I guess the way I view it is is that teams have a finite supply of resources, and if your chance is 0.1% that you are going to acquire a certain asset, you should spend a proportional amount of those resources on that asset. Do your due diligence, make a call to his agent, spend a little bit of time working him, but if there is no positive feedback, give up on it and move on. Oh yeah they'll definitely do their due diligence and offer what they have (guaranteed MLB rotation spot, regular at bats if the Sox even want to go that route having a 2-way player) but I agree, if it doesn't seem positive move on quickly.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) So if Shields mentoring gets Giolito into the HOF and Tatis gets into the Hall of Fame it's a wash in my book...now...where the hell is Charlie Tilson. Who? Are you sure he plays on the Sox, let alone baseball? /green
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) I think you are making this out to be my opinion. There are decades of contracts that serve at the basis for what can and can't be done for Otani. He is going to be signed as a young amateur free agent. When he is brought to the majors it will be the same as if he were any other player player recalled from the minors to the majors for the first time off of an MiLB contract. MLB has already flat out stated that a team can't have a secondary deal in place for a contract that is out of line with what has been done in the past. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/why-this...this-offseason/ It seems like a team could extend him but if it's some sort of crazy amount and with opt-outs, it's obvious that it was negotiated at the time he was picking a team.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) How easily we miss the point. I know that situation was different . The point was no one expected Oakland to sign him just as no one expects the Spx tp sign Otani. Except in that situation, the A's offered the most annual salary. That's what made it a big surprise. We don't have that luxury here.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Dudes gonna be a stud. Not worries about him one bit. Yeah he looks like he has a clue at the plate which makes me not worry.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Cespedes is a completely different situation as he had none of the restrictions that young international players have now. This. Cespedes was a free agent who signed a straight 4-year deal, just like any other player who gets signed when they hit free agency. Cespedes also did take the most money. Marlins offered the same amount, but over 6 years instead of the 4 that he ended up taking from the A's: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/26674580//
