  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) As to Melky, a Melky fan wanted him back. I was anticipating Hahn shutting the door, but he did say it was possible, mentioned his popularity and thought he could be a good guy for young players to learn from, even though he later said it may not be a fit. I think it would require a real team friendly deal. If Melky got a legit offer elsewhere, they aren't going to match it from the sounds of it. The Sox will get a boon to their September attendance next year as the Cubs visit Sept 21-23. Where do you see this? Not doubting it, just trying to find the schedule myself.
  2. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) BTW abreu would already have gone if not for two reasons: 1. The market for corner bats is really low, they currently don't have a lot of value unless they hit like David Ortiz. 2. He might be kept kind of as a buddy for the Cubans who haven't always had the easiest time integrating in the past. I think point 2 is the more minor one but it might give abreu some extra points. If there was a real offer he would be gone but not for a handful of fringy prospects. Yeah the market for corner bats has been awful last couple years. Don't see it improving this off-season.
  3. Based on where that ball was fielded, nothing Engel could do.
  4. I read the other day that the Yankees have traded for a decent amount slot money and now sit at around $8 million. They could be a team that can offer him DH at bats as well.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) I really hope Brewers are away and on a weekend. Same but seeing as though the Sox went to Miller Park a couple years ago, I sort of doubt it.
  6. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Is Petricka done or was this just a bad year due to injuries? Wondering if hes someone they are counting on to be in the bullpen next year. Probably will be back next year due to them having almost no one locked up in the pen. Putnam however I would 100% expect to be non-tendered since he will miss all of next year anyway.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) Sox 9-14 Giants 8-12 That'll do it. Giving them a couple wins this weekend would help a lot. A couple wins from the Giants only moves the needle one game. A sweep would be 3.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I am not too worried about this. He was fine when he last pitched. I bet if the Sox were battling for something he pitches last night. e. Shut him down and continue your quest for the highest draft pick. They will give him an MRI, but I think that is more for appearances sake than anything else. More Dylan Covey starts!
  9. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) If otani is really coming over next year he isn't doing it for the money and could just as well take 300k instead of 10m. I think the most important thing for him is finding a team in mlb that gives him a chance to hit at least semi full time (400+ PAs or so). For a player like him 10m is really a chump change. If he was in for the money he would wait 2 years and get a 250+M contract. Would you think he would be more likely to go to an AL team or NL team for those kind of at bats? An AL team could DH him on days he doesn't pitch.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Getting swept by the Giants would not be the worst thing. Hopefully Posey is healthy enough to play (for Sox purposes and my fantasy team). Posey is expected to play 1B or DH this weekend. Phew.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) I don't see gillaspie getting OF time. I dont think ti will be that hard to get consistent at bats, the one issue is essentially Leury is our only CFer, so Cordell / W Garcia / Liriano / Melky but unless Wily absolutely rakes I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. The others can just rotate between the DH/OF spots, give Avi spells. Teams with much more earned depth like the Dodgers do it fine. And he's fun. I listed Gillaspie as someone who could get at bats at 1B pushing Delmonico into more OF bats. Not Gillaspie getting OF at bats. I was just listing guys who could potentially need the at bats that would disappear with Melky being on the team (unless Abreu and Garcia are dealt, which I hope happens if the offers are there).
  12. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) Yeah...pretty sure Kopech will be the ace of the staff...not the closer. Especially with what he has shown this season. Thsi is actually the first time I've seen anyone mention him as a potential closer...why? Because he throws so hard? Obviously no issues yet. Bruce never said he would be the closer. Those comments in the article are based on what scouts have said in the past, that his stuff plays great for a closer. Of course, that would hinge on him failing as a starter first.
  13. I wouldn't mind Melky coming back, but the at bats just don't seem to be there (unless they move Garcia and probably Abreu in the off-season). Davidson you would assume is at 3B, Delmonico could either get reps in the OF or 1B depending on if Abreu is moved or not and then you would still have guys like Engel, Cordell (if healthy), L. Garcia that should see some time in the OF. Casey Gillespie if he rakes in spring training even.
  14. Getting swept by the Giants would not be the worst thing. Hopefully Posey is healthy enough to play (for Sox purposes and my fantasy team).
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Wow. That means the rebuild is gonna take a long while if Abreu is too old. Their contract? Why would that matter? Why would some lady want Coop fired? Just cause he's abrasive? They may both may not be here at the time we have our first competitive year or will only be around for a year of it. Pretty much what most of us have been saying all along.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) What a class act! https://www.instagram.com/p/BYtEJ-4gHVp/ QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) He is a great dude. Wish him the best. Seems like a good dude. Hopefully he's willing to transition to the bullpen and see if he can be successful there for a few years with someone.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) As keeper of the reverse standings, don't be worried. The Sox won't fall below 3. Keeper? There's a link you can click on on the very first post in that topic that shows the reverse standings haha
  18. He served his purpose: ate innings until our prospects were ready to take over. Would have been better if he pitched well and was traded for something but oh well.

  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) It's amazing what teams or people will do if you just reach out to them. When someone I know got married a few years back, he sent an email to James Cornelison asking if he would sing. Showed up and did the ceremony pro bono. Now that is incredible.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) If McMahon could actually play 3B, I'd be all over this. Unfortunately he can't. I've been saying he'll probably end up at 1B for the Rockies next season anyway. Don't think he will get traded.
  22. I definitely offer him up this off-season with a high price tag. If no one bites, I'm not giving him an extension either. I don't start negotiating until around July/August after you've tried trading him at a high price. Just my opinion.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) I.arNarvaez homers and that's three solo shots for the Sox. Rain delay in bottom of the 4th The pace of this one was already so slow. Glad I decided against going.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) 63-65 4.22 ERA with the White Sox. I hope the Sox young guys are better than that. I don't think anywhere here said they wish all these guys turn into Floyd.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) I hope the guys they got are the best. I thought Gio's was just a late season reward/look. If we have he and Rodon for sure in the rotation next year and if Lopez is in the rotation, for their sake I hope they speed up the rebuild. I don't care what anybody says. Pitchers failing at any point of their careers is not necessarily healthy. I hate to over-react about Rice but didn't like what I saw vs. Marist. Now that's a first game and all that. Maybe that junior QB is going to be great. By no means am I burying a high school kid after one start. I'd move the senior QB to RB or defense and simplify the offense and see if some of the new skill players can develop. I would think Rice will come out fired up beyond belief vs. Crete wanting to not go 0-2. Now you've completely lost it.
