QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Is Liriano all the Astros did? So far yes. And McCullers is on the dl now. Sounds like they could use Gonzo

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Astro's are the real losers here. Didn't swing a deal other than bullpen help (1 player, forgot who). They need SP. I am looking for them to lose in the playoffs due to SP issues. Francisco Liriano.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I had no idea what you were talking about but then I thought about if for a minute...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Yu was rumored to be staying at the time That's why you gotta wait a bit after the deadline.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Tobias Myers I just love the fact that you responded with the name of the player. More specifically, the first name.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) Assuming no other major deals, what a failure for the Dodgers. They are relying on the same staff that fell apart in the postseason last year. Feels like the Cubs closed the gap big time on them over last few weeks in terms of postseason roster. They got Watson, Cingrani, and Darvish today.

Didn't someone say Pelfrey was warming up in the bullpen the other day close to the end of the game? Maybe he is being moved to the pen.

Tim Beckham to Orioles...that's a weird one.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) It's over. Dan Hayes said we didn't do anything Ah.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) Looks like Gonzo stays. Give it til 4. The Peavy to Sox trade was announced like 30 mins after the deadline.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) Pretty surprised Royals werent bigger players for MiGo Who's to say they aren't?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) This should be quite a buzzer beater. You have to figure Gray and Darvish are going to go. Britton may as well. Gray is gone.

It's finally over.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Holy crap. I can't believe how many local reporters are holding the Cubs up as some kind of awesome for this. They COULD have stomped this out in Oct 03 by making a strong public statement, but the pretty much gave Bartman the Sammy Sosa treatment and pretended his didn't exist for the longest time. Now almost 15 years later they do something to fix it and NOW they are a classy organization for it? lol, ok. Different people running the show at that time.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Nori Aoki and Teoscar Hernandez is what TOR got. Yikes, that's pretty good Yeah Jays must be paying the rest of that salary (minus the pro-rated league minimum of course). Good haul for a rental having a bad year.

Blue Jays receiving Teoscar Hernandez back in the Liriano deal.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Ken Rosenthal Retweeted Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi 14m14 minutes ago More #BlueJays and #Astros deal for Francisco Liriano is pending a physical. Sounds like an outfielder in coming back in return Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 3m3 minutes ago More liriano will be reliever for astros, once completed Looking at his numbers, gives me hope Holland can land somewhere.

Any new tweets regarding anyone on the roster?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) I'm kind of surprised how many people want Engel starting over Cordell. I want Cordell starting. Ideally, a team would buy Avi at this season's production price in the off-season and we used Cordell in RF.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) White Sox have 6 open spots on the 40 man. Wow...and will have a lot open up after this year with Pelfrey, Holland Gonzalez all gone. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Sweeny MurtiVerified account @YankeesWFAN A's came off Frazier/Torres package and asked for Florial/Mateo package + more. #Yankees will not make that deal either. 4 hours to go. I bet Yankees do end up making that deal. They're going to wait it out to see if the A's budge any further.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Think of it this way, if the White Sox were in contention, and they traded for Miguel Gonzalez, or Derek Holland or Mike Pelfrey or Tyler Clippard and gave up anything better than Courtney Hawkins, how pissed would you be? And how much would you question the White Sox braintrust sanity thinking these were guys that could get them over the top? Trading for a guy like Gonzalez I don't think would be about "putting your team over the top." Pretty much just to give you a better chance every 5th day than what you currently have and likely leave him off playoff roster if you have 4 guys better.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Next years lineup should be: CF L. Garcia 2B Moncada 1B Abreu RF A. Garcia DH Gillaspie 3B Davidson LF Cordell C Narvaez SS Anderson I think Delmonico can be at DH. It can actually be an open competition between him, Gillaspie and Hayes.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) The big problem other than I wonder how much you want to expose very young pitchers to very little chance of winning, is innings. I don't think the White Sox want these guys pitching regular rotation turns until October 1. Just remember 2007 when they shut John Danks down early. That's why I'm thinking they could go 6-man rotation. This scenario with Pelfrey and Holland gone: 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Lopez 4. Holmberg (has started games for us) 5. Danish 6. Beck/Volstad. But good change at least one of Pelfrey and Holland are here. In September, their bullpen can have an extra 4-5 arms as well. Edit: who knows, maybe they make a minor trade and pick up another veteran arm pitching in the minors on another team to start games for the Sox at the MLB level (similar to the Lowe and Machi move).

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Yep, this is how I see it too. He's out until 2019, and come 2019 I think the Sox will be looking more towards actually fielding a competitive team, even if it's not quite there. Can you really count on a guy coming off Tommy John who has never shown a propensity towards staying healthy? And even if they aren't competitive enough, what are you going to get for a 32 year old injury-prone reliever set for free agency? I could see non-tendering and signing a minor league contract, but I think he'd prefer to take an opportunity elsewhere. I'm also not Zach Putnam, and he's actually been successful with the Sox and never anyone else, so maybe he'd be interested in that, having the Sox organization look after him during his recovery. This seems to be sort of common with guys. You see them get released and then signed to a minor league deal just as a formality to take them off the 40-man. It's something they would talk about and agree to first before just doing it (if the Sox even want to that is).
