QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Signing free agent Addison Reed makes a lot of sense to me. He's young(29 years old) and he sure is better than anybody the team has in the bullpen now. Don't really want to see them shell out a bunch of money for a closer so soon.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) My guesses... Yoan Moncada back from DL Nick Delmonico back from DL ReyLo back from the DL Tyler Danish Brad Goldberg DJ Peterson Rymer Liriano Dude hitting .205 at Charlotte?

The rest of the schedule for the Sox looks tough besides Detroit and SF. Hopefully we lose those 2 series.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 08:30 AM) Like I said, I didn't expect much, and they didn't get much. This particular player has already been a pro for 4 seasons, hasn't hit at all, and will be Rule 5 eligible next year (as I read the rule), so he isn't my cup of tea among the "lottery ticket" types. Re Gonzalez, despite an average career, he pitched great the last month, so yes I hoped for something a little better. Didn't expect it, but hoped. If you would have told me months ago that we would have traded Gonzalez for a former second round pick (still 20-years old), I would have taken that every day of the week.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I like how Greg keeps arguing that Gio is getting a chance to come up in September and isn't realizing that he has pitched twice already Lol

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:59 AM) I absolutely love that this is how the Astros choose to trade their prospects and blow their money on. Hardly the END of the world for them or anything, but man they had many other easier options out there. I hope they lose so bad. They also would have had to given away a lot more.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:56 AM) Can't say this wouldn't be a crippling deal without knowing how Machado will age during the second half of that contract. More times than not, teams regret those long term contracts. If the Sox wanted to go five years on Machado, I'm game but if Machado wants to years, I Gilroy's a team other than the Sox. This is all based on my belief the Sox do have young talent that will become major leaguers a few years down the road. Guys the Sox I'll want to sign to long term contracts. Guys the I'll be younger than Machado is now. Besides, let's see how Burger plays in '18. By the end of the '18 season we not even care about Machado. A lot of the 10 year deals given out are to guys like Cano and Pujols when the player is 30/31.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) So he can't be on the playoff roster? He can. I don't think you make that move today along with shedding another OF if you couldn't use him in the playoffs.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) The Angels let Maybin go on waivers to Houston? That's weird. Rosters expand tomorrow and he was still a contributor. Strictly a salary move.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) I don't really see it that way. The Upton contract is market rate. There's a much much higher chance he's worth the money to them than Pujols, Hamilton or Wells are/were. This. And he's only 30. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) Thanks for posting this. Collins by the ASB is surprising to hear but not impossible. Good stuff from WSD. For sure. Dude can hit and draw walks and ben .800+ ops catcher.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) When is his opt out? After this year.
-
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) Angels are probably praying he opts out. Or not. They didn't give up much for him and outside of his first 2 months with the Tigers, he has been very good for them. It's all listed here: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/08/tige...ton-angels.html "Dating back to July 1 of last year, Upton has raked at a .273/.351/.551 pace with 51 homers in 831 plate appearances. That line includes an even more magnificent .282/.368/.578 slash over the past calendar year. Over his past 631 plate appearances, Upton has clubbed 41 home runs." Having said that, they likely don't care one way or the other due to what they gave up. Also, they're done paying Hamilton $26 million after this season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) J-Up to the Angels. Really curious to see what they gave up for him as he can opt-out if he wants. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) https://mobile.twitter.com/whitesox/status/...270243107295232 Abreu's last swing looked painful last night. Wooooow that lineup. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) I don't see how you can avoid a historically bad Sox season if there's no plan to fix the bullpen yet. And I would doubt that's the plan. This team is destined to get two very very high draft picks before the rebuild starts to turn into contention. Why do you assume there is no plan yet?

Abreu/Anderson out w/ minor injuries
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Chris KucVerified account @ChrisKuc 42m42 minutes ago Jose Abreu is out of White Sox lineup with a minor elbow injury. Tim Anderson tweaked his hamstring. Both could play tomorrow. So we should expect Davidson at 1B, Saladino at 3B, L. Garcia at SS? Who DH's? One of the catchers? -
FS: A look back at White Sox waiver trades
Bob Sacamano replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Forgot Greg's all time favorite waiver acquisition, Alex Rios. That was just a straight claim and not a waiver trade hence, the title of this topic. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) You'll see him after the extra year is secured. So like 10 days into the season.
-
So we will see Kopech in April next year?
-
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) So that means Collins starts 2018 in Charlotte probably. Or starts in AA and goes to Charlotte briefly.
-
QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Honestly both Sox should have been presented the option to reverse the trades. Red Sox were given the option but seeing as though it was post trade deadline, they weren't able to trade for anyone else and said screw it.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) Not if it makes him mad enough to absolutely refuse to sign an extension or negotiate a free agent deal with the team. Knowing the Sox are only doing it to decrease his earning potential may not sit well with him. It's good for the short term but maybe bad business in the long term. The good news is this likely won't be the case as I don't think he's up until at least June/July. There's good reasons they can decide to let him start the year at triple-A for a while. -
sox marketing technique - acquiring attractive players
Bob Sacamano replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) Dude already has a shoe and car thing. As long as he isn't trying to play ball unnecessarily with 10 huge chains around his neck, I'm good with that. -
QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Considering the Braves are getting uncomfortably close to the Sox in the standings, this probably isn't such a bad thing. Yeah I guess that's true.
