Yeah, you don't have to hit 20-30+ homers to be considered a good hitter. Also, he ball being juiced at the MLB level makes me unconcerned about smaller guys hitting homers. He could definitely end up hitting anywhere between 10-20 homers and I wouldn't be shocked. Tim Anderson is on pace to hit over 30 for Christ sake.

He doesn't have to be up right when they are competitive again, which is what you are implying. He will be up when he is ready and that could theoretically be 3-4 years (not saying it will or that I think it will). Teams still want a nice flow of talent through the system even when they are good.

Honestly, watching the games lately, he has looked pretty bad and unathletic on a lot of plays. Having said that, it's a tank year and I don't mind him being at 1B. He's our star and not ready to be a full-time DH (though I feel remember reading within the past year or two that he was opening up to the idea of DHing more?).

Right, he only makes sense for contenders that are looking for innings out of the back end of the rotation and don't want to give them to young arms/want to limit innings. And then when the season ends, the team likely leaves him off the playoff roster. I'd definitely dangle him out, eating most of the contract and hope you find maybe some sort LatAm signing you like (obviously, not as one that was highly touted, in the sense he signed a big bonus, as Fernando Tatis).
