  1. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) All sorts of metrics: contact rates against are way up. velocity down a bit. hard hit balls% up. comprehensive pitching measure like SIERA and xFIP at career highs. etc. etc. Doesn't his approach to hitters this year kind of cause that?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Yes, the White Sox probably seek more opinion from their fanbase than any other team in baseball. However, seeking personnel advise for a MLB team from your fanbase is a lot more crazy than anyone who disagrees with your opinions. Yeah they aren't doing a full rebuild or anything. They'll be in on a lot of the free agents next year with so much money cleared. I actually expect them to sign Chapman.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Swanson only had a .745 OPS at AA, so he still has work to do. They may not be this bad next year - they might be about where the Phillies are this year? But next year seems early to be trading away the talent. Yeah I'm thinking they will at least be watchable. Maybe 2018 is more realistic.
  4. Anyone think the Braves can be decent next year depending on what they do this offseason? If Swanson can be a steady bat and they have a healthy Inciarte and add a bat (at third?), I think they could be watchable at the very least. Maybe trade some prospect depth for an arm or two for the rotation if they really wanted to since they loaded up on a bunch of prospect arms.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) or build around They've been trying that.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Since when is having one of the best pitchers in the game locked up for 3.25 seasons at about 20% of his annual value a bind? I shouldn't have said bind. But they operate where they struggle to put a team around him yet have the guy who can bring back close-to-MLB pieces to plug a few spots is what I'm referring to. They don't have anything else to move to bring in talent to help the MLB team. They have a few in the minors, but trading those guys would hurt.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) No but it shows there are a lot of misses at that point in the draft. By every team. If he is a contributing reliever, he was a nice selection. If he's elite, he was a steal. Yeah. Next year, I just hope he's either the closer with Robertson salary moved or he's working as a starter. Or hell, both those scenarios happening would be fine with me. No problem with him being a great reliever, I would just like to see if he can start first.
  8. Previous players drafted at pick #26 have nothing to do with Zack Burdi. Just tossing that out.
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) No I'm not missing the point, just taking your silly argument to a ridiculous end. It was reported that scouts thought he could possibly be a starter and even reports that the Sox intended to make him one. Spending a couple years attempting to make him a top of the rotation starter is a much better option with minimal downside. After a year or two if that didn't work just make him a reliever again. The extra innings of experience would serve him well anyway. Agree. This small sample size should have no barring on his future role.
  10. Rebuild or not, Morneau belongs on this team next year. Although he may look to play for a contender first.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) Just think of it as them limiting his innings. This. Called him up just to get his feet wet/no depth in minors.
  12. Which means they're going to go for it next year. But they won't be all in.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) Mr. Blackmon is just absolutely going bats*** crazy in August. Helping my playoff push for fantasy!
  14. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) Sale's numbers have a lot of warning signs. They're not going to trade a boat load of prospects for him. And the White Sox can't afford to trade him unless they GET a boat load of prospects. Horrible bind to be in considering how they struggle to put a good team around him. Some other nice pieces to have but overall blah.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) They have 10 days from the designation. That's what I thought. Thanks.
  16. When is this resolved? I've read teams have interest in dealing for him which I would assume is more likely than the Astros just releasing him/letting another team just claim him.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) So only 12 players out of their 25 man roster? He made it sound like they might rather patch "other holes" and not trade for Sale so it sounded like starters were excluded based on that comment.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) I swear the difference between the two was how quickly they signed. Rodon went to the week before the deadline. Burdi was pretty much instant. Burdi gets the call up, Rodon didn't. I really think the Sox use it as a signing incentive. Doesn't help much that Rodon's agent is Boras. There was no way it wasn't going to last until the deadline to sign. We all knew that.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) I disagree with this in regards to Rodon, but your last sentence is a very practical potentiality. I think with Rodon the Sox saw a Boras client who they expected to be in their rotation for seven seasons. Given the timing of Rodon's call up, it's pretty obvious the Sox wanted to have ~6.85 years of Rodon instead of ~6.2 or whatever the segmented seasons would come out to. With Burdi, the need to control his service time/salary is much lesser. Rodon was an elite prospect with the best agent. Burdi is a good prospect with mid market agency. If Burdi ends up in pen, his future salaries are not inconsequential but certainly pale in comparison to the nine digit potential Carlos Rodon has on the open market. As far as Burdi's call up, I heard a bit more. The Sox losing Gonzalez and having to call up Ranaudo for a spot start complicates things. Burdi getting called up after his outing tomorrow would make a lot of sense, but after Gonzalez went down, he may be held back a bit solely because of the way the roster breaks down. Plenty of other moves they can make to have both here. DFA Turner and/ or Albers, send down Beck or Kahnle. Lot of guys who can go.
  20. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) I heard yesterday that since the All Star break, Red Sox starting pitching has been ranked 3rd in AL. Their offense and bullpen was in a funk. Their offense certainly tore up AZ this weekend but we will see when they hit the road. Unfortunately Benintendi has been on a tear since he was called up which could inflate his value next winter if he keeps it up. I think DD will trade some of his young talent to patch other holes and not go for the KO w Sale. Boston doesn't really have any holes besides their starting rotation and bullpen though.
  21. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 04:06 AM) Moncada is being tried at 3B. This is obviously for purposes of the Moncada/Benintendi trade for Sale or Q in the offseason. It's definitely because the Red Sox don't have a long term 3B currently. They'll probably look to move Devers before Moncada.
  22. I smell bulls***. He spoke this season about how playing for the Reds last season was draining. He would be sick of showing up at the ballpark every day if we were rebuilding.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) Sure. Right after he said Dave is using him as his source Spin it however you feel, rabbit was on it Except the comment you're posting about is from 4 days ago. The tweet Dave had is today. Not sure why you're arguing about nothing haha
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) No, that's pretty much exactly what he said, in this thread "I'd expect." Sounds more like an opinion than "he will be up."
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) Didn't Rabbit have that first Not quite. His tweet was more of opinion than actual fact that they will.
