I predict neither go anywhere in the next year and they'll retool in the off-season. Maybe they'll look to sign an outfielder (Cespedes, Desmond, Reddick) in the off-season (preference being Reddick if he gets traded and no QO attached). Not saying I'm 100% agreement in this but it's probably the best course to go if you hold onto either Q or Sale. Try to win next year and if results are similar, then tear it down when you could get a more realistic return for Sale and Q.

Red Sox Reportedly Interested in Robertson

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) I'll trade him for Michael Kopech Me too. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) Good luck. The problem is Sale's value to the White Sox far exceeds what other teams woul be willing to give up. They will just go down a tier or 2 and save prospects. Levine with hi Soler/Baez for Sale is probably more in line with what the real offers are vs what we all hope. The Sox now are screwed again. If they trade these guys for realistic packages they will get hammered by everyone. If they don't cave in they will be accused of business as usual, with no clue. Just go back a year. They hang on to Shark after a hot streak. Yet according to some with no sources, they could have traded the pending free agent who led the league in HR allowed, hits allowed, and earned runs allowed that would have blown away the value of the comp pick they ultimately received. Sale is like a $50 million house. Yeah you might be worth billions and can afford it, but isn't the $25 million house enough house for you? Especially if you need several houses. There were tweets from insiders saying they had a deal with the Giants lined up but wanted to wait out the hot streak before deciding to trade him. I do get what you're saying overall though. I really doubt Sale and Quintana are going anywhere this year or even in the offseason. I think a year from now is way more realistic as it'll be the final year of "the three year plan" and they will each have a little less control making a deal more closer.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Agree with that. At this point, it looks like Quintana is getting traded if they hear the right thing, and a few other guys. Sale is too valuable to move right now. In my opinion, Quintana should be just as valuable. Owed even less money than Sale and has one more year of control than Sale.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) Sale gave a big discount because he wanted guaranteed money in case his arm fell off tomorrow, not because he liked the Sox. Same with Q for that matter. ^this

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) I hope Robin just starts pulling random players in random innings every game going forward. My refresh buttons wouldn't be able to handle it lol

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) You know I am not in favor of trading Sale. I am in favor of selling selling. It makes no sense. What you do is keep Sale and Q and Abreu and Eaton and Anderson and absolutley trade everybody else and try again. It's almost too late already. We're waiting too long again this year and I don't like it. With free agency thin, how do you plug all the holes to compete next season while hanging on to them? Trading all the others probably doesn't accomplish that.
-
You could ask for Russell in my opinion since the Cubs could plug in Baez at short. Maybe a step down but suitable replacement.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 07:22 PM) LOL Upton is garbage. Didn't want that bum let alone for $142 million He was my second choice out of the big 3 (Cespedes was first).

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 07:09 PM) I agree. I am very much against moving him unless a player such as Correra comes back in return. That contract is insanely valuable and should drive the asking price up IMO. Yeah. I don't think a team will subtract from it's MLB core during the post season race however. More of a move in the off-season when you can try to plug the hole with a free agent or another trade.
-
QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Move Q, Sale gave the Sox a massive discount cause he wants to play here. Sale probably would do the same when he becomes a free agent. Very doubtful of that.

According to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com, the Rangers are "making a serious effort" to land Sale.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:31 PM) This needs to be in seperate threads. What do we realistically think the return could potentially be and any other thoughts on teams in contention who might be in the market for a closer? Probably below what the Red Sox and Astros gave up for Giles and Kimbrel but you never know. -

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Serious question: What would be the point of trading Quintana for Urias? Best case scenario, Urias turns into a pitcher as good as Quintana. Quintana, who already is a pitcher as good as Quintana, is signed reasonably for four more years. Urias, a rookie, has six years' control. So basically you can have Quintana for four more years, or a guy who might be as good as Quintana for six years. Is that two years of upside, mitigated by the bust risk, really worth it? Four years is a long time! With the condition that the Sox will be attempting to compete in 2018 or 2019 (which I think they will, even in a rebuild they're not going to punt more than a season or two), I just don't see the point in trading Q for a pitcher at all. If the Sox trade him, it should be for multiple impact bats. Because it wouldn't be a 1-for-1 swap and you'd be getting 2-3 other legit pieces back. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Thank you for reading it. I spent a lot of time writing it and watching the pitches I mentioned in slo mo frame by frame on my DVR. I know I rub people the wrong way with constant questioning of pitch framing. I could've wrote even more citing others who question it, not just laymen like me but the same kind of guys who came up with it in the 1st place. But then again others rub me the wrong way by constantly referring to pitch framing as if it is the end all be all of what's important in a quality catcher. Even fangraphs had a more recent article about the better framers stats getting worse because umps are wising up. I could have pointed out that the curveball was out of vogue for a while when the split finger pitch came into vogue and part of the reason was because it's just a very difficult pitch to call right. I have been a keen observer of baseball for many years and even before pitch framing became a thing I thought umps were very poor calling pitches strikes that end up in the strike zone but miss their spot. It's just lazy umpiring focusing on where catchers set up more than on the strike zone itself and the height of each batter to establish that zone . Again thank you for your kind words. I definitely agree with just about everything you said. Pitch-framing as a stat is bull. Edit: in reference to your post above.

I feel like if you're trading for Profar, you're trading to win in next couple years which seems hard without Sale. Kinda dumb how he was able to gain experience on the dl. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) I am going to cheat and put this here, but is anyone looking to dump decent and cheap tickets for tonight? Thinking about going last minute. $7 tickets for upper deck at the gate. You will be able to walk down low and sit where you want.

People harp on those guys because they are trying to contend. Now that they're open to rebuilding, I don't really care who's in the lineup. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) I won't be bummed to keep Sale and Q. Still have the rotation set for four years basically with that. Davidson and Avi should be warnings of "we'll just trade for a Top 100 prospect and they'll plug in automatically." I wouldn't be bummed either but if a team offers a huge haul in the next 10 days, I wouldn't be too upset if they dealt either. -

Just read an article on MSN saying Dodgers are taking a different approach this season and willing to trade top prospects for front line guys. Article specifically mentions Sale and Quintana. Edit: actually can't find it now but when I do I will re-post. 2nd edit: posted above my post. -
