  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Don't have time to check but did anyone post Crasnick's quote from an NL scout saying Sox are sick of Sale's antics? Goes along with everything I've heard. I think it was the scout's own speculation like they COULD be sick of his antics and could be part of the motivation to move him.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Keith Law has him as the #2 overall free agent. He had a .391 OBP. I think he goes off the board pretty early at the Winter Meetings. 4/70 Agreed. Nowhere near the same as last off-season where he was the 4th/5th best OF option available, likely less than that position player wise.
  3. Makes sense. The Sox are very thin on left-handed reliever depth.
  4. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) The goal is not to trade for Heyward because he's good - it's the opposite. It's essentially taking on salary to allow us to get even more of their great players. Not dissimilar to when you retain salary to get more prospects. You wouldn't consider it for Baez, Schwarber, Soler, and our pick of 3-4 prospects? Teams like the Braves have done that but for contracts that expired a year or two later. We would potentially have Heyward for 7. F that.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Thanks for sharing. Nice to read people recognize value of players like Jones/Quintana *cough cough* Rosenthal I didn't even think of Jones as a comparable to Giles of last off-season. If we were to receive a similar deal, whoa.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) Ha. I started following him on Twitter since the trade deadline, and that seem to sum him up perfectly. lol I think so too.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) We already have had posters say the Sox blew it by not trading Sale and Quintana at the deadline even after it was reported Benetendi and Moncada weren't on the table. The reality is, unless it's an obvious overpay, if a trade is made involving these guys, there are going to be calls for RH's head. And if no trade is made, it is going to be widely assumed they turned down an overpay. That anyone would even consider Mike Trout too little for Chris Sale, it's hard to imagine a Sale trade getting universal praise. That drunk whitesoxdave guy with the connections to the clubhouse reported the deal offered by Boston was Benintendi and I think 3 starters. Wasn't it reported the White Sox wanted Bradley Jr?
  8. QUOTE (gatnom @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) I believe he's listening. But, what will he do if nobody is willing to meet his prices? Stand pat? Try to improve the roster? Hahn's prices don't seem to be met often. If he doesn't get the right offers, I think they attempt to "go for it." What the cutoff date would be and how many guys are off the market? Who knows.
  9. According to Nick Cafardo. Hahn is listening on everyone. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/al-c...p;post-id=76412
  10. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) I have no issue with signing FAs like Melancon, Weiters (assuming he's not a QO FA), Reddick, and a fifth starter. Melancon probably gets a 3-4 year deal (no QO), Wieters probably takes a 1 year deal (no QO, but I think he stays in Bal), Reddick could probably get a 4-5 year deal (A's tried to extend him for 3, he wanted 4, could probably get 5 in this market, also no QO), Fifth starter: if no one from our rotation is dealt, it probably remains how it is now. If they signed that group above and the team is not contending in July, then blow it up.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 02:46 AM) MLBTradeRumors suggested that the Angels may be in on Sale. I'm finding it hard to figure out a trade match with them, considering their farm system is historically bad. I suppose you would immediately start with RF Kole Calhoun and a prospect package of 1B Matt Thiass, OF Jahmai Jones, C Taylor Ward, and LHP Nate Smith, although none of those are even top 100 prospects, but happen to be 4 of the top 5 that the Angels have. Just doesn't seem like a fit. They can be interested all they want, but no way they are getting him.
  12. Dodgers were looking to move Ruiz in the next couple days to not have to pay out his 2017 season. Maybe we can buy low on him and he can at least be the right-handed bat in a platoon?
  13. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) A bag of Matt Adams poop. Deal.
  14. QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) Beautox’s Offseason Plan Arbitration-eligible (with projected salaries from MLBTR): Todd Frazier, $13.5M - Tender Brett Lawrie, $5.1M - Tender Avisail Garcia, $3.5M - Non-Tender Miguel Gonzalez, $2.6M - Tender Dan Jennings, $1.2M - Tender J.B. Shuck, $1M - Non-Tender Jake Petricka, $900K - Tender Zach Putnam, $900K - Tender Daniel Webb, $600K - Non-Tender Explain the toughest calls if necessary: Pretty straight forward across the board Contract options (pick up or buy out) Matt Albers: $3M for 2017 or a $250,000 buyout - Buyout Impending free agents (re-sign, let go or qualifying offer) Austin Jackson: Made $5 million in 2016. - Let Go Alex Avila: Made $2.5 million in 2016. - Let Go Justin Morneau: Made $1 million in 2016, although he signed during the season. - Re-Sign for 2.5 million. Free agents Sign a number of project pitchers like CJ Wilson, Jarrod Parker, Doug Fister and others to suppress the future rotation’s arbitration eligibility. Sign someone like Mark Teixeira as a nice veteran presence and possible player to be flipped at the deadline in a similar fashion as Carlos Beltran last deadline. Trade I'll be using The Point of Pittsburgh as a soft guide to surplus value of prospects for this exercise. Chris Sale to Boston for OF Andrew Benintendi, 3B Rafael Devers, LHP Jason Groome & C/LF Blake Swihart. Sales surplus value is near 150 million and going by the point of Pittsburgh's mlb prospect surplus values, this deal on Boston’s end comes in around 165 million while not taking into account Swihart’s value and the premium placed on the free agent market since it is a seller’s market this offseason. Jose Quintana to Houston for SS/3B/2B Alex Bregman, RHP Francis Martes, RHP David Paulino & OF Teoscar Hernandez. It has been said this offseason Houston is willing to move Bregman for a top of the line starter and Quintana fits the bill. Jose’s surplus value comes in right around 130m, this package without factoring in Hernandez’s value comes in at about 120 so its a bit light in comparison to the Sale package so there could be an additional piece added. Jose Abreu to Texas for LHP Yohander Mendez, 3B/1B/LF Joey Gallo, OF Leody Taveras. The rangers have holes with their starting pitching, first base and center field, this trade was a bit of a challenge to properly value. I see Aberu’s value being somewhere near 40 million while Joey Gallo’s value continues to plummet in a similar fashion to Mike Olt. Yohander looks to be a mid to back of the rotation starter and Taveras offers a lot of upside but will take a bit of time to develop in the minors. Todd Frazier, Nate Jones & Brett Lawrie to Los Angeles for 1B/OF Cody Bellinger, 2B/C Austin Barnes & SS Gavin Lux. I think the dodgers pass on re-signing Turner and Utley and will need an additional arm out of the pen to back up Jansen or Chapman or whomever they sign this offseason. Bellinger doesn’t have a path in LA for the foreseeable future with Adrian locked up. Barnes hasn’t delivered on any of his promise yet and will be 27 on opening day and Lux is a prospect the white sox heavily scouted during the ‘16 draft. Frazier offers both surplus value and a likely draft pick after ‘17. Jones is an asset that should provide anywhere from 28-40m in surplus value alone during the life of his contract and Lawrie gives them a second basemen with youth and some upside with a slim chance of getting a draft pick in ‘17. If the dodgers go this route and QO Turner and Jansen while signing Chapman and trading for Frazier that affords them two additional draft picks in the ‘17 draft. David Robertson to San Francisco for OF Bryan Reynolds and LHP Steven Okert. Even with his knee being cleaned out before the start of the season relief pitching will be at a premium after the world series demonstrations of Chicago and Cleveland. Robertson has a little bit of surplus value and is likely being paid nearly what he is worth. Reynolds was the Giants first round draft pick from vanderbilt and a switch hitter another prospect that would be in the mold of the direction of "baseball players" as seen by drafting Collins, Fisher and Call. Okert looks to be a middle reliever that can handle both righties and lefties Melky Cabrera and Miguel Gonzalez to Toronto for RHP Sean Reid-Foley and LHP Angel Perdomo. Depending on what you think 1 WAR will cost this offseason this is a very close and "fair" trade; Reid-Foley has a surplus value of 15.6m and Gonzalez’s value will likely be around 14M. There is no way the jays QO Saunders for 17.2m, Melky is likely being paid what he will produce for ‘17 and there is a slim chance they could extend him a QO next year, same applies for Gonzalez. There is familiarity with Melky within the organization and Gonzalez has had success in the East previously with the O’s. Reid-Foley is a classic white sox pitching target - "Reid-Foley's delivery and arm action may not be picturesque, but he has the physical strength and athleticism to repeat both." Perdomo is a solid looking lottery ticket, both of these arms haven’t moved beyond high A. Summary The only pieces of the current 25 man roster that will likely be around for the next White Sox window are Carlos Rodon, Adam Eaton and Tim Anderson, by having a fire sale in this fashion the farm system now has waves of talent to infuse as not all prospects will pan out. The remaining pen arms that are solid: Petricka, Putman and Jennings can be moved at the deadline with the place holding rotation members and veteran bats provided they perform, if not they served their purpose of mentoring the future core while ideally getting an additional year of control out of them by keeping them down on the farm. This team will likely have a top 5 draft pick in ‘18 and a top 10 pick in ‘19. Here is what the organization’s depth chart would like at the start of ‘17 Here is what the 25 man roster would look like going into mid ‘18 I know you just used Tex as an example, but he is retiring. I can totally see us signing someone like Matt Holiday though which is basically same concept.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Hmm. It'd be interesting to see what next year's team looks like if they gut everything and trade every guy with value. I'd assume the entire roster would be different with the exception of Anderson and Rodon. You mean if they dealt: Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Melky, Lawrie, Frazier, Gonzalez, 2 or 3 of: Robertson, Jones, Petrick, Putnam, Jennings? They would definitely need to re-sign a lot of stop gaps. Whatever is left would probably lead us to the #1 overall draft pick in the 2018 draft haha
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Tell us more... Too many f***ing people lol and when the train arrived downtown, people started singing "Go Cubs Go" or yelling "Let's go Cubs." I turned my iPod up even louder lol
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) If you're doing a full rebuild, why give sign a vet like Davis and give him at bats and playing time? Give that to a young prospect who's trying to prove himself. We might get a late bloomer. Yeah I guess Coats can fill that role.
  18. The train ride to the city for work was not fun.
  19. That game 7 was really a great game. The only thing that sucked about it was the outcome.
  20. If they go the sell route, I'd like to see them add as many guys on one year deals that are looking to rebuild value as stop gaps and to potentially flip in June/July. Wieters, Ramos, Gomez are three guys who come to mind but all 3 could easily re-sign with their old teams.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/03/2016...ree-agents.html Here's a list organized by position. It's a garbage list. The worst I can remember. For some reason I think we will sign Rajai Davis or Chris Coghlan, lol. Davis as a 4th OF/platoon partner with Tilson/pinch runner I'd take. Expecially if we go a rebuild route.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) Trade: Tigers trade Cameron Maybin to the Angels for Victor Alcantara (8th best prospect in Angels terrible system) Doesn't appear to be about the prospect they received but more of the 9 mill they save not picking up his option or the 1 mill buyout.
  23. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) There was a time that I really thought he was gonna be a beast. There were plenty on here that had that same thought.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 16m16 minutes ago Ann Arbor, MI White Sox organization meetings take place this weekend, starting Friday in Arizona Makes sense. GM meetings are Tuesday-Thursday (even though nothing really happens during those meetings and it's more to lay the groundwork on potential deals and gauge interest). Hopefully whitesoxdave gets a few nuggets for us.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) Bears: 1985 Bulls: 6 titles from 1991-1998 White Sox: 2005 Blackhawks: 3 titles from 2010-2015 Cubs: 2016 I wasn't celebrating last night, but that's a pretty good sports run for Chicago for a fan like me in my 30s. The Bears are lagging behind, but my first ever sports memory is Super Bowl XX and I watched a tape of that game daily as a 4 year old. I was born in 1991 so I didn't see the Bears and the 6 Bulls championships are basically irrelevant to me. Hawks are on an amazing run though.
