Crosstown Cup Finale Game Thread, Game 4

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) definitely a curse, it would be better if they sucked ass so they could easily just sell off pieces and call it a season. With Quintana on the mound tomorrow, they'll certainly lose 2-1 making it a 3 game losing streak lol -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Oh ofcourse...Domestic Violence out for the save QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) Cub fans will cheer him That's sports in general man. Most of every team's fans cheers for their players regardless of what kind of person they may be off the field. Don't know why anyone would think it's different for the Cubs. Edit: not saying it's right but that's how it is in society. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:10 PM) I'd actually use Morneau in the pitchers spot next inning. Saladino should of been hitting instead though. Was it a double-switch that Saladino came in to? Missed it. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) this organization outside of cooper us epically failing....sanchez....really brutal. you pinch hit for sanchez and do a double switch. brutal Even Cooper is kinda meh now. The best guy at their job in the organization is Herm Schneider. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) Now Saladino in the game, which means Morneau easily should have been used for Sanchez. Brilliant Robin He's a very good manager./green -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) Jason Castro and Carlos Gomez It totally will be. Each on 1-year deals. Edit: in rebuild mode, I don't mind those kind of moves. But I think they will try to compete next year. -
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 07:32 PM) Andrew Stevenson is a realistic prospect from the Nats I think we should be looking at. This is what fangraphs had to say about him. Sounds a lot like what we were looking for from Jackson. "He only needs to be somewhat close to average with the bat to be a full-time center fielder, since his base-running and fielding abilities have enough value to make up for the lack of impact at the plate. If he can maintain decent walk rates, and he ends up being more of a 65 fielder, you’re looking at All-Star type of production." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-...gton-nationals/ Stevenson + Koda Glover + Taylor Hearn for Robertson and his entire contract. Get it done Hahn I accept.

The Possibility of the Curve Ball from the Sox...

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) It better not be a salary dump. They should be able to get some good value from a contender for an established closer with a couple of years of control. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) Exactly. I wouldn't salary dump him because he's not an awful closer. He's overpaid but we at least have a closer who can close most nights. Just can't run him out there four consecutive days. I think he could bring back close to what Chapman got personally. Other than 3-4 outings, he's had a good season. -
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) It amazes me that anyone thinks winning 89 games and 1 playoff game in a decade is anything even worth mentioning. It's clearly all Jim Thome's fault.

The Possibility of the Curve Ball from the Sox...

Beginning to think the only deal we make is trading Robertson since they seem to be pushing him according to that article posted in the Robertson thread. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) When is the trade deadline this year? Did I read that it will be Aug. 1 since July 31 is a Sunday? You are correct. My question is what time on that day? Like 4pm central?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) I'll have mixed feelings but I don't want them giving away Sale or Q. I think they can move Robertson for certain. Sure seems like it. I'm hoping they move Melky and Frazier although if they're both here I won't care. I just don't want to see our two stud SPs given away when they're in such demand and they won't. They're not just going to give them away. They've made that very, clear by their comments (well through the media/twitter). -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) Here's hoping the Sox score some runs. Lol seriously. Could be a 1-0 loss. -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Sox also don't make the playoffs with Gio instead of Thome in 2008. It amazes me that people try to argue the Thome deal being a bad one lol
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Well it's more of it looks like trading for the sake of trading. I'd seriously be ok with those deals.
-
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) I'm not going to go tit for tat. Gio Gonzalez had a higher WAR in his control years than Thome did for Sox. The Sox have been bad for over a decade now. I don't have to defend that statement. Everybody can have an opinion, that's fine. Doesn't make the trade a bad one. Thome performed here. There was a chance Gio wouldn't develop the way he did being a prospect. Edit: if you want to argue a bad Gio Gonzalez trade at least make it the Nick Swisher one for f*** sake.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Those moves don't make the Sox any better and more likely worse. Well no s***. Anytime you trade for prospects of course your mlb team is going to be worse lol

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) I don't expect Robin to really say anything other than nothing answers at this point. That's what I kind of figure. Whether he knows or not he's going to play stupid to the media. -

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) LINK Ventura on #WhiteSox being sellers before Monday's deadline: "I don't think that's going to happen." ~ Scot Gregor's twitter Does anyone think Robin has any idea what's going to happen? Surely they'd let him know if they planned on selling right? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) If his physical went well, they would have acquired Arrieta. Of course that's a Baltimore physical. Probably 95% of this year's Olympians would fail. Lol yeah.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) This times a thousand. I take a look at the farms of Houston, Boston, Cubs, LA, Texas, Pitt and as a Sox fan I just wonder where they got all those nice shiny toys from. Then I remember that KW was calling the shots for way too long. His wheeling and dealing and terrible drafting of "toolsy" outfielders was a total catastrophe. Unfortunately he is still around and I don't see him or Reinsdorf ever committing to an actual rebuild. We have to hope that someone younger buys the team that is willing to wait through a tear down. I know many fans wouldn't be patient with it but I personally would be.

QUOTE (bruni @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) Yankees take the entire haul received from Cubs for Chapman, add #2 overall catching prospect Gary Sanchez AND Pineda (Coop will fix him!) for Sale. Sox immediately solve long term catching issue with Sanchez and most recent #1 Collins, get stronger up the middle in time with McKinney and Rashard Crawford, acquire stud middle infielder Torres (who I would convert into a 2B) and have both Warren and Pineda to bolster starting pitching staff. As you see above, I told you about the Yankees being in play back on page 30 of this thread... I agree that the package is light, but the WSox have underwhelmed before. I have zero faith in the ability of this front office to pull off a Miller-esque heist a la Atlanta's fleecing of Arizona. I believe unfortunately that despite the posturing, the league knows that they want to move Sale and/or Jerry is sick of the repeated embarrassments and distractions from Sale's behavior. I still think Sale is the guy that gets moved before the deadline on the 1st. We shall see... Yuck Edit: mostly at the McKinney (not big on him), Pineda, and especially Warren part.

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Hopefully this is just to bait Boston to up their offer. I hope so too. Yankees (and other competive teams for a wild card spot (Texas)), Ortiz's final season, terrible starting pitching, young and controllable core, Dombrowski are reasons Boston might overpay lol

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) If I'm Hahn, I'm only using Texas for posturing. Me too. Let other teams know that the Rangers are willing to part with MLB players (Profar and Gallo). -
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) I don't see the Sox trading both Sale and Quintana. Gonzalez is gone next year and they'd probably prefer to dump Shields if they can. If all four of those guys are gone, they have Rodon, an unproven Fulmer, and three holes to fill. If think it's more likely that Hahn deals Sale for a couple of really good young ML-ready players and a veteran #3 or #4 starter sometime in the next 12 months. Gonzalez has one more year of control left.
