I agree with a lot of those points. I don't know why I'm so frustrated because I'm not even a "die-hard" Bears fan but I'm around the Chicago sports scene so much it's hard to avoid. I'm not going to keep repeating myself, I just can't believe how they backed themselves in this corner. The only way this gets fixed (and I guess realistically it's always been the only way) is finding a franchise QB you can build around. If we all agree on that.........Pace should NOT be able to pick the next one. Full stop.

Because this isn’t a “young” roster and I don’t see many key players taking big steps forward...if anything I see them taking steps backwards (Mack, Hicks, etc). I also think Dalton/Foles are going to get DESTROYED behind a very bad O-Line. I mean, we all knew 5-1 was an absolute mirage last season. We were waiting for the shoe to drop..and it did when they went 3-7 to end the year, and look awful in the Playoff game they snuck into it.

Really think they've lost me at this point. It's just so pointless. What evidence do we have, even small trace amounts, that this organization, starting with George and Ted, have any idea what they are doing? As you said, it's just the same thing over and over and over and over again. Enough is enough.

This is what it is to be a Bears fan...debating who is better in 2021, Andy Dalton, Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky. In keeping Pace/Nagy, they are going to try and at least be competitive this year. Additionally, odds seem to heavily favor them drafting a QB in Rounds 1 or 2. The Bears will probably stink this year. Let’s say 7-9, 6-10. At that point...two choices. Nagy and Pace stay and we continue on with this garbage or they both get fired and they start over. At that point, you have a Ryan Pace picked QB that will be inherited by a new GM, who may or may not be a fan, and at best has to learn another new system under another new head coach. In what realistic scenario does this “work” for the Bears? And how in the hell is it possible that Pace gets to draft ANOTHER QB this year?

So let me ask you this. Foles vs. Dalton in 2021, with the Bears drafting a QB in Round 1. If the Bears go 7-9 or worse..does Pace and/or Nagy get fired? Because if they do...now you have an entire new regime in place, introducing a new scheme and are inheriting a 1st round QB from a GM that has a TERRIBLE track record of identifying QB talent. This is the most Bears thing ever

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here. You believe Andy Dalton is the same QB as Foles. You also think if the Bears take a QB high in the draft, they cut Foles. And if they do that and it’s a QB drafted you like...your opinion of this move will be positive. Then why sign Dalton at all? If they are the same QB (your words) and you already have Foles on the roster...why are spending another 10 million on Dalton? And why does who they draft at QB matter at all in relation to Dalton vs Foles? If they draft a QB you like, and just had Foles on the roster..aren’t you in the same spot as you would be with Dalton on the roster? With that logic, I can’t fathom how you could endorse this move in any way.

This. They already have an "Andy Dalton type" on the roster. Who they gave up draft capital and money. Why are you giving more to the same guy? Or AT BEST a marginal upgrade? It makes no sense. I don't care if it doesn't impact them long term. It's the same shit, different day. And it shouldn't be accepted. And it's laughable to say "Well lets wait to see what they do the rest of the offseason after the last 2+ years)

But you also aren't grasping that fans are upset, understandably with this premise as well. The plan is now try and "contend for a playoff spot" with Andy Dalton? That's where the Bears and the fanbase is? Sorry, I don't accept that, not after the absolute shitfest we've been witness to the last 40+ years. If you want to go all in for Russ/Watson....fine. Most Bears fans are OK with getting crazy for a franchise QB. If you can't acquire either of them.......Andy Dalton does what exactly? It doesn't even matter if you think Dalton is better than Foles......Lets say Foles is a D and Dalton is a C. What does a C level QB get this team in 2021?

Probably a good call. Based on previous history, this front office absolutely deserves the benefit of the doubt....- NFL 2021 offseason thread
Good luck with all that.- NFL 2021 offseason thread
1. If they acquired Dalton so they can get closer to contending for a playoff spot in 2021, that’s an incredibly sad statement 2. Prepare to be MASSIVELY disappointed in Andy Dalton.- NFL 2021 offseason thread
It doesn’t and absolutely shouldn’t. That’s the point. You should be doing that already with Nick Foles on the roster. I don’t understand what you aren’t grasping here. It’s like Nick Foles doesn’t exist on the roster for you. If you want an incredibly average, veteran QB to “bridge the gap” you already have that guy on the team. Why are you spending money on Dalton?- NFL 2021 offseason thread
Jason, will all due respect...piss off. In no order: 1. Mahomes 2. Josh Allen 3. Kyler Murray 4. Lamar Jackson 5. DeShaun Watson 6. Dak Prescott 7. Aaron Rodgers 8. Justin Herbert 9. Ryan Tannehill 10. Tom Brady 11. Matthew Stanford 12. Joe Burrow 13. Matt Ryan 14. Kirk Cousins 15. Baker Mayfield 16. Derek Carr 17. Trevor Lawrence 18. Ben Rotheslberger 19. Jared Goff 20. Carson Wentz 21. Sam Darnold 22. Daniel Jones 23. Jimmy G 24. Cam Newton 25. Teddy Bridgewater 26. Ryan Fitzpatrick 27. Jameis Winston 28. I’d take Tua over Dalton at this point. 29. maybe Dalton at this point?- NFL 2021 offseason thread
He wasn’t the answer because they were asking the wrong question. Starter than can make players better and win? No. A “bridge QB” as you mentioned? Foles can 100% be that guy for a number of starts. Additionally, I see NOTHING that tells me Andy Dalton is a significant upgrade at all over Foles in 2021- NFL 2021 offseason thread
I don’t think it means that at all. Pace and Nagy suck but they aren’t stupid. If they thought their jobs 100% depended on this upcoming season and winning results...I can’t imagine they make this move. I think they have more security than we think.- NFL 2021 offseason thread
Show me one place that said “all but certain” This is equivalent to saying “The left cancelled Dr. Seuss! Classic cancel culture!” When in fact that’s not even remotely close to what happened.- NFL 2021 offseason thread
How is Foles not mentioned in this post?- NFL 2021 offseason thread
I honestly feel bad for the hosts in this town that will have to take calls on Dalton vs. Foles and who should start Week 6....barf- NFL 2021 offseason thread
But let's say they do think that. Let's say they are fucking crazy and think this is a roster that can compete. Is Andy Dalton the guy that makes them that much better? How much better is he then Foles? Because I'll be SHOCKED if they come out and say "Andy is our starter from Day 1." You know there is going to be a competition. And if that's the case, that tells me they don't think Dalton is that much better than Foles. WHAT ARE WE DOING GUYS?- NFL 2021 offseason thread
This new info just backs up my point. Fine...you can't get Russ. Watson is going to cost too much.......Why are you spending money to bring in Andy Dalton? You have Foles on the roster and if you aren't drafting a QB in the early rounds of the draft I don't know what the hell you're doing anyway......what's the point?- NFL 2021 offseason thread
Again.....then blow it up now. The entire point is this move doesn't accomplish anything. The Bears are at a fork in the road. One path has them blowing it up, bottoming out, getting bad contracts/money to expire, finding the right QB at the top of the draft. The other fork has them going all in on Wilson/Watson, just getting crazy and trying to patch together a winner with Mack/Hicks/Smith/ARob still in their primes. Acquiring Andy Dalton is them standing at the fork, looking at both options and just not moving. - NFL 2021 offseason thread
