Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
If Fulmer and Johnson pan out, then the Sox have a rotation of Sale/Q/Rodon/Fulmer/Johnson all in their primes for the next 3-4 years, which would make Adams expendable. It's not a given that Fulmer or Johnson will pan out, but I really wouldn't mind Hahn selling high on Adams in the right deal like he did with Thompson/Montas/Wendelken earlier this offseason.

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
What if the Sox traded Avi and Adams for Gonzalez and then signed Jackson? If those moves happened, the Sox wouldn't lose any picks, they'd get the lefty power bat they want, and they'd also get a defensive minded outfielder while shipping Avi away. Any thoughts?

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) This is true, the chess games via the press continue. Could we potentially afford to sign Fowler and Jackson? Cespedes > Fowler and Jackson combined

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
This MIGHT be an encouraging sign for the Sox, but who knows at this point. @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Tigers among teams talking to #Rockies, who have surplus of LH hitting outfielders. Precise target for DET unclear; no deal close.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) I'm leaning back toward a trade for Ethier. What do you guess it would take to get him? I want absolutely nothing to do with Ethier. Absolutely nothing. I'd rather have Avi in RF next season over him.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Now that everyone expects Cespedes to sign elsewhere, watch Hahn nab him in the next 20 minutes. lol

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
So, in other words, we have a 2500+ post thread here and Cespedes will be signing elsewhere. Great. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes.

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
I guess it depends on how much the Sox would have to give up for him. If they could get away with giving up only Danish, Engel, and someone else, I'd be ok with it.

Wilmer Flores
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I can see the Sox having interest in Flores due to his age, having some pop and a low K-rate. Maybe an Avi for Flores swap? Not going to read too much into it for the time being but its an interesting thought. Why would the Mets want Avi? They already have at least 4 outfielders on their roster.

Wilmer Flores
If the Sox are seriously interested in him, that makes me think that they don't see Anderson as the SS of the future. But perhaps he could switch to be an OF or something else.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) That is a double bonus for the White Sox. #1 it will mean the Rockies trade an OF, and it is a low number. This is exactly what I was thinking as well. Now hopefully they trade CarGo or Blackmon to the Angels, Orioles, or Cardinals.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
This article predicts that Fowler will come to the Sox. Any thoughts? http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...d-fowler-end-up

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
On a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 means that the Sox have absolutely no chance at him and 100 means that they're getting him for sure, how confident are you guys feeling right now about the Sox ability to get Cespedes? For me, I'd have to go with 50 right now. I feel as if it could go either way.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
@JeffFletcherOCR Angels not one of the teams for Parra, but if Rockies get him expect Angels to take a shot at Blackmon.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) My confidence in them landing one of the big 2 has all but gone away at this point. I think Fowler is a good option at the right price, coupled with another (even small) upgrade at SS or SP. What has happened today to make you think that?
-
Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
I pray to god that the Sox aren't the mystery team for Parra.
-
Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
If the Rockies do get Parra, I'd have to assume that CarGo is traded.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I don't know about you guys, but I would be absolutely fine with Raburn going back to Detroit if it meant that Cespedes comes to the Sox.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) What if Cespedes ends up getting 5/125 from some team? For me, I think he will be a massive flop with that type of contract. No one is giving him that type of deal. That's why he's still unsigned.

Heyman: Justin Upton to the Tigers
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) You read my mind, although I don't think Rasmus can be traded at this point due to his accepting the QO. I know Tucker would cost an arm and a leg and don't really see a potential match but I think Marisnick could be had, not sure for what though. I wouldn't mind a trade for Marisnick to play CF, sign Cespedes for LF, move Eaton to RF, Melky becomes the DH. That would be defensively upgrading all three OF positions. Who do you think the Sox would have to trade to get Marisnick? I'd like him for sure as a Gold Glove quality defender in CF.

Marcell Ozuna
If Fulmer is the asking price, then hell no. Ozuna would be an improvement over Avi, but he's not worth Fulmer.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I wish Davis would sign somewhere already, as I feel like he's holding up Cespedes' market.

The most important stat in baseball...
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 12:54 AM) Well not only are we not discussing the merits of a "perfect metric", I also referenced fWAR specifically. I choose not to acknowledge bWAR in almost any instance. Is there any specific reason why you like fWAR more bWAR or is it just personal preference?

The most important stat in baseball...
I personally like WAR as a way of evaluating a player. The only flaws with it is that it's not a concrete number like the traditional stats (for example, Baseball Reference had Chris Sale at a 3.3 WAR last year while Fangraphs had him at 6.2), and secondly, there is no real way to define a "replacement level player", even though the entire stat itself is based off of it.
