People still think Bumgarner is as good as he was at his peak. He’s not. And these are the same people who would complain when he’s getting lit up in the AL. Overpaying for him out of desperation is one of the worst things the Sox could do right now.

Thanks for the response. If the money is equal, I don’t see why Wheeler would pick the Reds over the Sox. The Sox are in a much easier division and I’d have to think that Chicago is a more attractive destination than Cincinnati.

Let's say the Sox offered $100 million a couple days ago, which it seems likely that they did. Wheeler's camp wanted to wait a few days to see if they would get a better offer. They did, from the Phillies, which is why everyone is freaking out right now. Wheeler's camp is probably going to circle back to the Sox tofay to see if they'll beat the Phillies offer. If they do, Wheeler will sign with the Sox. I'm not going to freak out until Rosenthal or Passan say he has officially signed elsewhere.

I feel like Olney’s tweet is a plant from Wheeler’s camp to get the Sox to raise their offer.

If anything I’m more concerned with the fact that Pederson would be a rental. As far as the platoon splits go, Leury could just play RF against lefties. He hit .311 with a .786 OPS against them last year which is more than respectable. And it’s not like there’s that many lefties anyway.
