  1. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Right on que...Nats supposedly pushing hard for Cespedes (from the same guy who said 3 finalists are Nets, Nats & Sox). That would be a bold move...
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Once again the White Sox are not getting the bargain that people think they will get. At a bargain price teams will jump back in the pool and drive the price up to a realistic number which will be around 5/$100 with an opt out after the second year. Teams don't really bid against themselves what they do is provide a number that they feel will get them the player they want at the cost that they feel the player will take. This was what he cubs did with Heyward. I really hope the White Sox are not sitting around think they can get him for 3/$60 or something like that. Does anyone really think the Sox think they could get him at 3/60? They're not stupid, if that's all they're willing to offer then they were never serious about getting him to begin with. If the Sox are serious, they'd have to at least go 4/90-100 or 5/110, which would be a drop in Cespedes' demands, but still high enough that not many other teams are going to jump in at that. That's been my assumption all along about the discounted price he could potentially be had at.
  3. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Interesting how the overall mindset changed as soon as Upton was signed. Originally it was about 1/3 split between Fowler/Yo/Garcia ... Almost exclusively Garcia after the Upton signing. I agree the more and more that comes out, just based on context clues, that Cespedes wants, and believes he'll get his 5/6 year deal at $23mm+ and probably with an opt out too. No chance the Sox do that. Nor should they if that's what it will take.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) That is based on....what? I think you guys are overstating how poor Desmond's defense is. Desmond's 2015 was largely regarded as pretty poor and he still ranked as a better defender than Alexei. He's a league average to slightly below league average defensive SS. His value is heavily tied to his offense. I agree, his defense isn't great by any means but he's far from the butcher many are saying he is.
  5. What percentage of revenue comes from attendance?
  6. I will buy 2 extra churros per game attended. That should be enticing to the FO.
  7. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/resetting-t...oenis-cespedes/ Article about all the remaining candidates and their likelihood. Strangely, he puts Baltimore as the current favorites, followed by the Mets. Says we're a second-tier candidate along with the Angels and Giants, and calls the Astros an intriguing dark-horse. Hard to believe the Giants and Orioles would still be possibilities.
  8. The 3 players vs. 1 player is the better move for the team overall, but how much would they all cost? Jackson is probably at least $8 million a year, Pearce is 6-7, and Fister is probably close to 10. That's nearly $25 million, and it might be a conservative estimate. Even substituting Raburn in for Pearce doesn't lower the overall total that much.
  9. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) How do we know there are fewer teams? Every time we think this, more teams show up. KC was done with Gordon, Det was too broke to get Cespedes, Miami wasn't supposed to get Chen, Col already had 3 OF'ers & still signed Parra. At this point, narrowing it down to a few teams has proved to be pretty off. Right now, we need to assume the Sox are one of 5-10 teams on him, whether it's logical or not. Most people thought KC was going to sign Gordon, everyone knew the Tigers were in on the Big 3 the entire offseason, Rosenthal tweeted about Miami's interest in Chen on December 1st. There were no surprises there.
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) I would think so, but that all depends on what other teams may offer. There are fewer teams now, and I think it could be down to the Mets and Sox. However, who knows. Angels have to be in on it too, their LF platoon is awful right now, and though Moreno fears the luxury tax they do have a ton of money coming off the books after 2016, so they would just have to take the tax hit for one year.
  11. Surprised so many still think Garcia is going to start again. I think at worst Jackson will be there.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Mibelt Rodriguez ‏@MibeltRodriguez 1m1 minute ago The #Mets and #WhiteSox are the frontrunner to sign Yoenis Cespedes. He's looking for a minimum 4 years contract (1/2). 0 retweets 0 likes Reply Retweet Like More Mibelt Rodriguez ‏@MibeltRodriguez now @MibeltRodriguez The #Mets haven't make an offer to Cespedes, and they won't go beyond 3 years. The #WhiteSox may go 4 years (2/2) #MLB Does 4/90 get it done?
  13. A deal like that for Upton given his age is very reasonable. But Cespedes? No.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I'll give you a hint. Two of your Top 15 aren't on our list. You'll see who tomorrow. I'm guessing one of the two guys he didn't mention was Alvarez.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Still would rather have Desmond and Jackson I would too, but the problem is those guys together might cost more AAV than Cespedes will.
  16. I want Cespedes, but not if he's going to require somewhere in the range of 6/150. That would be horrible.
  17. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) I think it's time we stop believing what teams are supposedly out & which teams will pay what, because realistically NONE of it has been true to this point. How so? There weren't many who thought the Royals were out on Gordon, and the Tigers have been mentioned all offseason long as a potential player on the big 3 OF. And Davis going to Baltimore surprised no one. There's been nothing out of the ordinary here.
  18. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:15 PM) Good point. Davis (7 years), Upton (6 years?) and Gordon (4 years) all got multi-year deals. I'm not exactly sure who these teams are bidding against (specifically in the Davis contract), but I don't understand why Cespedes wouldn't get at least get a 4 year deal, and probably 5-6 years. Upton and Gordon signed for lower than predicted, though, right? I think Cespedes might still get 5 years, but unless it's the Angels I don't see another team able or willing to offer him over $100 million.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) That 2018 free agent class is going to be so crazy. Upton won't be a part of that one though, his opt out is for the class before that one.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) And you really thought there wouldn't be a meltdown I'll admit it, that was naïve.
  21. Well this board sounds like it's going to be a fun place this year.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) 6-125 for Upton. Yeah Sox aren't touching that for Cespedes Pretty reasonable deal for Upton.
  23. Well Tigers will be tougher the next two years but after that they're completely f***ed.
  24. With Upton to Detroit I don't see any other teams besides maybe the Angels that could pay him what he reportedly wants.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) Respectfully disagree You're probably right, but it'll depend on the amount/length and team. 4/80 with the Tigers? Complete meltdown. 6/150 with the Angels? Disappointment, but understanding why we wouldn't go that high.
