MLBTradeRumors Offseason Outlook
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) Cub attendance took a big hit the past few years remember which led to the drive to bring in Theo, completely gut the franchise and get to where they are today. Their were a lot, ALOT of empty seats being shown on TV at Wrigley Field. Cub fans were getting fed up and pissed off. Columns were written about it in both the Sun-Times and Tribune. Just trying to be accurate. And just last year the Royals manager called out his fan base for not showing up with the Royals winning. Three decades of losing will do that to a fan base who has to be convinced the season isn't a mirage. Sounds a lot like things on the South Side no? (example is 2000 after four losing seasons in five years time...) Mark Even with falling attendance the Cubs were still drawing more than 30,000 fans a game, that allowed them to speed up the rebuild and spend a lot more money than most rebuilding teams are able to do.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) I think so, pretty sure it happened in 2005. It's Chicago baseball, this might be the 5th postseason series the two teams have won combined in 100 years. It's the 6th if you include 1917.

MLBTradeRumors Offseason Outlook
QUOTE (MIZ-SOX @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) The franchise is really at a crossroads right now. Our model of plugging in 30 year old position players doesn't work in today's game. I'm going to assume we'll try to make a few signings this offseason so that we can hopefully compete next year, however if we see a repeat of this season, i'm fully expecting us to deal any veterans that have any value, and commit to a youth movement. Luckily we've done a pretty good job of restocking the farm, so I don't think a rebuild would take as long as that of the Cubs/Astros. 30 really isn't that old, the top 3 offenses in the MLB this year (Jays, Yankees, Rangers) were littered with position players 30 or older. The Mets led the NL in runs scored in the second half and their offense is similarly old. Seemed to work just fine for those teams. It's not the age that is the problem.

Stop giving up hits to pitchers.

The TBS strike zone really sucks.

Cubs-Mets (Better Team) NLCS
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) I believe they are over achieving this season. They are, but that doesn't mean they can't win it. The Giants overachieved plenty over the last 5 seasons.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Yep, most of my department is cubs fans but they're just happy their team is winning, not interested in rubbing it in. Plus I got out early today because they were all leaving to watch the game. Definitely the silver lining to this.

NLDS: Dodgers vs. Mets
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) So which team stands a better chance against the cubs? The Dodgers were 4-3 against the cubs and the Mets were 0-7 against the cubs in the regular season. The Mets haven't faced the cubs since early July and have since added Cespedes. This is a tough one. Mets have the deeper rotation than the Dodgers and were 3rd in the MLB in runs scored after the ASB, Dodgers were 28th in runs scored over that time. The regular season record means nothing, especially considering both the Cubs and Mets are completely different teams since the last time they faced each other.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Oh my goodness gracious. I had 2017 as the year the Cubs began their reign. It's happening now. RIP White Sox, Bears, Bulls, etc. Classic J4L post. Over half the teams in baseball could have beat this current Cardinals team in a playoff series, including the White Sox.

And people thought it was "unfair" the Cubs had to face the Cardinals in the NLDS.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) I'd take the Astros, Royals, or Jays over the Cubs. I wouldn't take the Royals, they have suspect pitching.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) For our organization, he was a Top 10. They probably thought they knew better than everyone else. Or it was just a trade that didn't work out. I know the "30-30" thing is quoted here often, but did anyone other than Hawk actually say that?

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) By White Sox standards, absolutely. Maybe by Hawk, but he does that with everyone, otherwise no.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) I'm fairly certain the Sox would make that trade (or at least think long about it). Rodon is great and all but Schwarber fills a major position need / void on the club. Doubt it, and Schwarber would be our DH. You don't trade a potential ace for a DH.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) It's not the Cubs, it's the fact that he can hit, and only Abreu can hit for the Sox. Eaton? Also we were completely dreadful against LHP on offense this year, Schwarber would only exasperate that problem.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:14 PM) The White Sox would do it immediately. They absolutely would not, that trade is a win for the Cubs.
-
Cubs-Cards NLDS
At least from a baseball perspective, a Mets/Dodgers vs. Cubs in the NLCS would be a lot more entertaining to watch than this banged up Cardinals team.

Cubs-Cards NLDS
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) I wonder if the Cubs would take Rodon for Schwarber? Rodon was still the right pick.

Honestly think the White Sox would beat this Cardinals team in 4.
