If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) I would go after either Doug Fist amd signier, Bud Norris, Ian Kennedy and see if I can get them on short term (1 or 2 years) deals with the intention of flipping them. I'd only do this if we trade one of our SP. It doesn't make much sense otherwise because you'd be blocking EJ and we need to find out what he is.

We're one inning away from the alert being sent out. If it's going to happen, then it's only fitting that it's with Q on the mound.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) Zobrist doesn't strike me as a guy who would sign with a team so far away from the playoffs. Players go where the money is. I can't remember the last time a guy signed a contract because "he wanted to win."

So now all ground-ball hits are Kansas City Specials, Hawk?

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) Agreed. However it does give teams the impression that if they can get Shark away from the clown college known as the White Sox, he could turn it around. The talent obviously is there. Mark Really? So the White Sox ruined Samardzija? I understand we've had some bad luck with other players coming here and having bad years, but that's mostly been on the position player side. We do pretty well with pitchers for the most part, Jeff being an obvious exception.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Maybe Fulmer-Plouffe is a little light on the Sox end but Plouffe hits 20 HR/year in Minnesota and has taken big strides forward on defense. The trade also gives me some pause because I don't want to see Fulmer killing us for years in Minnesota.

Who would you rather see get more PA's in 2016 for the Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) You don't have to be overhyping Trayce Thompson to choose him in this context. Right, it's not like a lot of us think TT is a future star, just that he's looking to be a better option than Avi so far, and I want to find out more.

Zobrist scares me a little because of our recent bad luck with old veterans on the free agent market, but if the price is relatively reasonable I wouldn't mind giving him a 2-year deal (probably have to go 3 though). How much would he cost?

My/Your Off Season Plan
After all the talk about Upton and Heyward I completely forgot about Gordon, but didn't realize he was already 31.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) There's no perfectly balanced schedule available. Some good fortune/bad luck will always exist. I'd eliminate divisions and play a schedule that's as close to balanced as possible. Top 3 get in, and the 4th and 5th best teams play one game to get in. I like the one-game thing. It keeps teams in it longer. But when things get overly unfair, I can't stand it. Teams shouldn't make the playoffs because of their location---especially when it's 5 of 15. This is the best way to do it. Also, I like the 1-game playoff for the Wildcard instead of a 3-game series. A 3-game series means the 1-seed is waiting almost a week to play their first playoff series, at that point it almost becomes a disadvantage. Also, I like that the 1-game playoff forces the Wildcard teams to burn through their ace. With a 3-game series they could potentially line up their ace for Game 1 of the next series, and I like that the 1-seed gets that advantage.

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) 10. D-backs 72-78 11. White Sox 72-78 12. Rays 72-78 13. Red Sox 72-77 14. Mariners 73-77 15. Orioles 73-76 This should be an exciting race to the finish for that top ten pick! I believe in our ineptitude to do it!

Trayce for sure, he has more power, plays considerably better defense, and doesn't have the horrible approach that Avi does at the plate.
-
How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make
None of them. But it's funny how everyone now wants to stay away from NL players because of two busts.

Samardjiza believes he was tipping pitches
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) Why wouldn't he say this? It's not like he's just going to admit that he's been trash for a good 3/4 of the season. This is bologna IMO. I need to see an improvement over several starts to believe this. Tipping pitches makes a lot more sense than Samardzija suddenly forgetting how to pitch and becoming the worst pitcher in baseball (which he has been since the ASB).

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
Are we forgetting that Samardzija has a shutout against the best offense in baseball this year? In the Cell no less. Pitchers who finish the season with ERAs > 5 do occasionally have good starts, just like pitchers who have ERAs below 2.50 occasionally get lit up. Nothing to see here.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
This is a big series for draft position, I hope the post-ASB Samardzija shows up.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
There's still virtually no risk that Shark takes the QO IMO. It's a no-brainer to offer it to him.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
The Cardinals were bound to have pitching problems eventually. They've been getting very lucky all year with LOB% and in RISP situations.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
Why are the Cubs starting both Wood and Haren back-to-back again? Is this just their new rotation schedule so that Arrieta is lined up for the Wildcard game?
