May 24 game thread Sox at D-backs
QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) He won't be going anywhere, which isn't the worst thing I'll take that bet, he'll get traded by the deadline, the package just won't be overwhelming. It will still be a good package though.

Hall of Fame criteria for pitchers now
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Hypothetically, if you had two pitchers with the EXACT same WAR (whatever measure, fWAR or bWAR), the exact same K/BB ratio, exact same IP, everything exactly the same except one guy has 300 wins and the other 280 sure use it to break a "tie" but that is probably the only time I would consider it. A win is important to a pitcher because you play to win the game and that starter has to look his team in the eye every night. It's not important to our evaluation of them as fans and analysts. on a side note, seems like traffic has picked up here this year. Awesome. 20 wins over a career is not that much though and there's a good chance that the first pitcher just got better run support/bullpen help or whatever. I just don't see the value. And anything that can point to pitcher A being a better pitcher given the other things being equal is probably a much better stat/thing to look at than wins anyway.

Hall of Fame criteria for pitchers now
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) That's true. However, as I've stated before. i would never just look at one data point to make any decision. Just because you have one stat that backs up your view of him doesn't mean it's the only view that matters. With no GM meeting the price that Hahn was asking for, it seems that at least some GM's don't think he was worth the price. Doesn't mean they were right either. It just means there are many ways to look at the value of a player. I get what you're trying to say here but I can't think of a single stat for pitchers that I wouldn't look at first before I'd look at wins. Pretty much every other stat tells you more about the value of the pitcher than the win does.

Hall of Fame criteria for pitchers now
I think Kershaw is the only active starting pitcher who makes the Hall. Sabathia is borderline but I think he just misses it. Sale would need to be elite into his mid 30s and I don't see it happening. Felix was on track but he's been very mediocre his last few seasons and unless he returns to his previous form (unlikely) I don't see that happening either. If Bumgarner can nab a Cy Young or two I guess he has a shot, but no one else is in the conversation. At least until standards change to reflect the modern era.

If 3B continues to be a complete black hole for the Red Sox then Devers will be starting there within a month or two, I doubt he's on the table.

SSS Theater: Avi Garcia
He's also just making more contact in general, his contact rate is also up 7% over last year and 5% over his career average.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 17, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) I don't know how Robertson and Soto fit into this group, and Shuck is a perfectly passable backup outfielder who was thrust into a role well above his ability. The White Sox paid $46 million for Robertson. Based on market price for WAR, he's been worth $26.7 million already, with 10.5 months left on his deal. He will almost certainly be worth around $50 million when it's all said and done, suggesting the Sox knew exactly Robertson's value, which is counter intuitive to your argument. Geovany Soto has been signed to minor league contracts both times. I don't even know how he was brought up. Beckham was also worth 0.3 WAR in 2015, so he earned the paltry $2 million we paid him.

I think at this point Pittsburgh is way more of a competitor than a trade partner. I'm worried about Cole being put on the market.

What's up with Saladino?
I know the flyball revolution is all the rage these days, but I don't think it works for guys like Saladino. He doesn't hit the ball hard enough, so all those extra flyballs mostly just turn into outs. Same thing with Anderson, really. They both should stop hitting so many flyballs.

I'm not that high on Rodgers so I wouldn't be that excited about that package. His home parks in both Asheville (Low A) and Lancaster (High A) are bigger hitter parks than Coors is, and his road numbers are pedestrian at best. Plus doesn't he have questionable defense? I agree with Cameron that he's overrated.

Attendance is Actually up 8.1%
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 16, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) And they have also priced a lot of fans out of their games. With their new dynamic pricing, you could see a weekend Sox game for maybe 25% of the cost I bet. (That's not criticism of the Cubs, they know exactly how to maximize every bit of revenue and it's the cost of winning for fans) I do know at least one Cub fan who has been going to Sox games this year because he can't afford to go to Cubs games anymore.

Guerrero is starting to get pretty intriguing.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
Even if he wins another Cy Young this year I still doubt Theo would resign him. I think he's gone regardless.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I am honestly curious what his numbers are after that report came out that he was on PEDs and he said it was Pilates That article came out April 26th of last year, so since then Arrieta has a 3.92 ERA and 3.75 FIP over 211 innings and 35 starts.

Rangers have won 6 in a row and are just one game under .500 now. There's been a lot of Darvish trade talk lately so hopefully they keep playing well.

Quintana just doesn't have his usual control this year.

Tommy Kahnle
Keep him for now. Put him in the closer's role after Robertson/Jones are traded and if he continues to pitch well he should bring in a better haul later than at the deadline. And then depending on how the rebuild is going you reevaluate again later.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 12, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) You guys think the Cubs would do a Miguel Gonzalez for Candelario swap? I think the Cubs do trade Candelario this season but they could probably do better than Gonzalez.

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while
QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) Is there a place to find ISO for minor leagues? It's listed on Fangraphs. Moncada's ISO is currently .204.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 9, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) About to start the Americans. Anyone watching Designated Survivor...it has good parts abut more times than not it's wtf stupid kind of like TWD where people do things that are just not something they would do. Also anyone know where to watch Vikings second half of the last season and Ray Donovan. Trying to watch Homeland and Ray Donovan without a Showtime subscription and not having any luck. You can watch Vikings on Hulu, they just released the second half of season 4 on it last week.
