  1. Collins should be sent to Schaumburg when Mazara is ready.
  2. Giolito got blown up early and put us in a 5-0 hole, albeit with some questionable defensive play. Minnesota is going to mash a lot of pitchers who primarily rely on fastballs, especially when they are as straight as arrows. If Reylo's fastballs have no movement and are in the zone, he will probably have the same results that Giolito did. Then there is the question of Reylo's slider. Can he change speed on it and get a few K's with it? I'm not too concerned about Reylo or any other starter given the depth of our pen. Just take him out early if things start getting out of hand. Plus, the heat and humidity are going to be brutal so i would not expect any pitcher to last very long today.
  3. IMO, Collins adds nothing to this roster and nothing to our catching core or Grandal/McCann. He is a LH hitter like Grandal so he is of no extra value , i.e., in a RH/LH hitting platoon. I question his game calling skills after watching him last year looking into the dugout for pitch selection. He doesn't impress me as the brightest tool in the shed. He walks a lot but then he clogs up the bases.
  4. The Sox should try to extend McCann. IMO, McCann's value has been underrated. There is more to catching than "framing." McCann excels at handling pitchers and calling pitches. He studies hitters and knows what to call. He definitely should be Giolito's catcher. I am worried about tomorrow with the Twins dialing it up to hit fastballs. We need another Keuchel / Buehrle type against the Twins. RR has to be ready to go to the pen early and the Sox have to pound again.
  5. RR did not want to hurt Grandal's feelings by not starting him on Opening Day. He could have just switched catchers, Too easy. Or, he could have switched pitchers and have Keuchel start the opener, but then Gio's feelings might be hurt. Can't have that either. and, RR may not want to hurt Abreu's feelings by taking him out of the clean-up spot.
  6. McCann worked with Giolito like hand and glove last year. So maybe stay with what worked. The line-up is debatable . I would prefer Robert and Eloy up there. Why? The top three guys have speed on the bases and Eloy seems like a bigger threat for pitchers than Abreu at this point. 1. Tim Anderson 2. Yoan Moncada 3. Luis Robert 4. Eloy Jiminez Every loss seems like 2 losses with this shortened schedule....especially against a division rival. Today and Sunday are must wins.
  7. this game is almost ovah. fuk shit gadamnit
  8. I would like to see Robert hit 3rd and Eloy at clean-up.
  9. Frustrating ballgame. Frustrating out the ass. 60 games no longer seems like it will be a short season.
  10. McCann should always catch Giolito. Madrigal should be on the 30 man and starting at second. Game is in Marshall's hands. Unreal...
  11. Generally games seem less competitive during the season than they do during the playoffs. If they played 200 games it wouldn't make the 162 game season less legitimate. The World Series was shortened to 7 games . So what? You play to win and the winner gets their ass crowned.
  12. I think might be a play on words based on Laura Nyro's song "Eli's Coming"
  13. Vaughn is the new Tank. He is a combination of Jake Burgur and Viciedo, which has me somewhat concerned, especially if he adds some girth with age. Mercedes is probably more like a B-52 bomber - big, heavy and designed to do one thing - drop some bombs. I want Mercedes on the roster. He is too much fun to pass up....like the Fridge on the '85 Bears.
  14. Madrigal over Cuthbert - Mercedes by a mile over Collins. We don't need a third catcher in a short season but Yermin's bat could come in big for us. Fulmer is toast burned over three times. Release him and end the suffering.
  15. Would Ozzie have allowed a guy to have his child on the field and in the clubhouse like Ventura and Hahn did ? What about Sale acting up over the 83 uniform? Or Eaton siding with him and opening his mouth? If Ozzie suspected Houston of cheating do you think he would have remained silent? No one can take 2005 away from Ozzie. He will always be the best manager we ever had, until we win another one with another Manager. Let's win this season and put this issue behind us.
  16. I think Madrigal would scratch out a few more hits than his competitors would. That could be a factor in a 60 game season.
  17. Two years ago? Those were not based on anything but speculation. Robert has raked at every level since the Sox got him.
  18. Robert is who we thought he was. Awesome.
  19. I wish Kopech would have put this to bed by at least sharing what category his reasons were for sitting out this season. "Personal reasons" leaves too much to the imagination. and has created this unnecessary speculation. He doesn't owe us a thing but I hope he comes forward and makes some statement about this.
  20. I am hoping that Rodon surprises us with some degree of durability following his last surgery. If Kopech comes back, I would like to see him in the bullpen rather than as a Starter. Maybe as an eventual Closer if he still has the 100mph gas. Your 5 starting pitchers need to be consistent in all matters, even more so than a reliever, in my opinion.
  21. This may have nothing to do with the current situation, but it is hard to forget his revelations about anxiety and depression at Sox Fest and through other interviews since then.
