  1. Play the guy ... and play him a lot next year. If he's a huge bust, somebody in scouting should be fired. Too late, Hostetler has already been promoted.
  2. Omar Vizquel would make sense but I think Renteria probably stays for at least one more season. As far as the Cubs. LOLOLOL... Maddon is so done. Theo will hire Girardi and all will be well with fans in cub world. They like to scapeGoat.
  3. Is there some injury or other concern that is preventing Collins from catching every game ? If not, perhaps the Sox are contemplating a possible trade that could involve Collins and they don't want him to either prove beyond any doubt that he sucks or injure himself before the end of the season.
  4. September Collins can catch up to an occasional mistake pitch and lay on it for a home run, and have games where he does not commit an error. However, September games that are meaningless to both teams are not the best way to assess talent and gauge future performance. Let's see him block pitches, throw out runners, and call several games against teams that are vying for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, we don't have many games left on the schedule to do that. The Sox wasted too much time with Castillo on the roster.
  5. McCann's offense has tapered off but it should not be surprising that a catcher wears down during a long season. Also, consider that McCann has not always had protection behind him in the line-up. Nevertheless, he has been a clutch hitter through most of the season and his defensive skills have been pretty consistent. Meanwhile, Collins has not demonstrated the defensive skills that the White Sox would require from a starting or back-up catcher. He has completed some games without making an error but that doesn't prove much. He looks slow to me...not a big catcher with the cat-like reactions that Carlton Risk had. Let him catch the rest of the games to see what he has.
  6. I can't believe people are penciling in Collins for the 2020 25 man roster. For what? What has he proven while he has been up? He is a butcher behind the plate and has not shown he can hit above the Mendoza line. Let him catch the rest of the games this season and have the opportunity to prove otherwise.
  7. We need a catcher to back up McCann.
  8. Moncada stays at third and Madigal at second. That is pretty much set in stone. Likewise, TA will be our shortstop for the next several years. He has the talent to make difficult plays and the discipline to cut down on errors on routine plays. TA's one handed picks are often unnecessary . That is a technique that he can change. Plus he may be the AL batting champion this season, so he gets a lot of latitude for his defense. The Scouting reports indicated that Vaughn's bat was almost major league ready. If they were right then maybe he comes up as a DH next season.
  9. Unless KW is told to retire and becomes a White Sox ambassador, I doubt this is even considered. I would like to see Dombo with Hahn as the new management team that takes the team to the next level with some free agent signings. I love that, but you know the guy was trying to go all out to win one . It didn't work out in MoTown but maybe a big contract or two helps the Sox over the top. Maybe it doesn't. We just don't know. Chris Sale and a few other guys sunk Dombrowski. Sale sucked (compared to what he was expected to do) this season.
  10. You have to establish the run game. Then you can put together drives that eat up the time that the other offense (Rodgers) spends on the field carving us up.
  11. That was my thought was well. Low slow change-ups are made for the high leg-kick upper-cut softball swingers. I think the low slow change-up pitch might fall out of favor with some pitchers who see too many of them get recognized early and wailed on. The one exception I see is that high "parachute" change-up that Gio has. I think that one still surprises a lot of hitters and it is harder for them to load up on their back foot to lean on it.
  12. If Moncada tagged up at second Abreu would have probably tagged up at third. However, Moncada didn't tag up at second probably because he would have been the tying run and wanted to try to score if the ball was dropped. A few cheap shots at these players so I am glad to be among those who defend them.
  13. Watch the replay and look at where Moncada is at the 57 second mark: https://www.mlb.com/video/must-c-mercado-s-crucial-catch
  14. I think I understand why Abreu got a lead off third instead of tagging as he would have on a fly ball. First, his run meant nothing. Yes. Moncada advancing to third behind him would have been t significant BUT Moncada didn't tag if you look at the replay Moncada not only did not tag, but he almost made it to third base and had to scoot back to not be doubled up. Abreu saw Moncada coming hard to third and that may have caused Abreu to take a lead off third rather than tagging up. Fan hindsight is 20/20 but I can see a lot of players doing what Abreu and Moncada did in that situation. These things happen especially when there is an unexpected play like the catch on that Eloy missile. No reason trolling Abreu. He is an excellent player and the Sox would not have been in the game without his home run and single.
  15. The reporters who pestered Lopez after the game to dig down deeper into what "flu-like symptoms" meant got there answer - diarrhea. The guy had the sh1ts . Let it go now .
  16. Detweiler is better in large measure because of McCann.
  17. You can almost sense Abreu is going to jack one here
  18. I was hoping they send Engel down soon. It is painful to watch him flail at pitches and strike out , often in key situations or with men on base. Bring up Luis Robert and Madrigal now. Maybe the league changes the service time rules over the next 6 years making the little game they are playing to extend control moot.
  19. Too many low change-up pitches and sinkers that were killed by upper-cut swings. I think Gio has to go high and hard pitch inside on the hands, and if you hit one or two of them, oh well.

    Uh...Eloy?

Eloy threw a strike to the catcher from mid deep LF in today's game against the Angels. The commentator with Benetti was impressed at Eloy's speed on the bases and his closing speed getting to fly balls in the outfield. I agree with him. Eloy is going to surprise cubs fans and others who think he is a lumbering loafer with a noodle arm. They are wrong.
  21. Benetti is such a candyass and that has been further exposed without Stone in the booth.
  22. Engel is off the 2020 25 man roster or I am going to shoot myself.
  23. The answer to the question might have something to do with what kind of a line-up you want. If you want to play the HR/juiced baseball game that Minnesota has been playing this season, then forget Leury and Madrigal as well. Lead off with Yoan or TA. Get a 2nd basemen that can hit 20 HR , a RF that can hit 25 HR, and a DH that can hit 25-30 HR. Power up and down the line-up. Don't worry about traffic jams on the bases, Just swing for the fences.
