  1. Moncada isn't coming here and Sale isn't going anywhere. Remember that Reinsdorf and KW are still around. Rebuilding is not how those dudes roll.
  2. Bunch of false information being spread. Moncada still on Portland AA roster and he wasn't pulled from game.
  3. BoSox ain't trading this kid for anyone and the Sox ain't trading Sale for anyone not named Mike Trout.
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) Yoan Moncada was seen hugging teammates. Hmm.. Got a source on this?
  5. build around your pitching The Sox FO has shown that they are incapable of doing this. They should be fired for not being able to put a competent team around two aces like Sale and Q.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) It'll heat up believe me. Q and Sale with nice back to back performances. I think they're both gone. Just have a gut feeling. I hope your gut is right, but it would go against all the historical tendencies of this organization. I don't the Sox will ever truly rebuild as long as Reinsdorf and KW are around.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Team can't even hit 3-1 91 mph fastballs hard. Just a stunning lack of talent in the lineup The lack of talent falls squarely on Hahn's soldiers. They half assed it last offseason and didn't add another bat after Frazier. I don't know how they expect to compete next year with this same core of dudes on offense.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) I think he is playing hurt. Leg/foot issues and his hands Then he should go on the DL and rest up for next year. This year is a lost cause and the Sox are gonna need him to bounce back in a big way next year if they hope to compete.
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) Package him with Sale and get Mazara, Odor and Profar plus a couple of prospects. There is no way that Texas is giving you those three plus prospects for Sale and Abreu. Abreu isn't worth much at all to other teams. He is one of the worst 1st basemen in the game right now.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) Abreu is sucking big time right now. It seems Luke all he wants to do is swing wildly everything The league has him figured out and he refuses to adjust. The scariest part is that his power is completly gone. He is putting up middle infielder numbers at a premium offense position.
  11. So if the Sox aren't gonna trade Q and Sale for some young players that can actually hit the baseball, then the plan is to sign dudes like Reddick, Encarncion, and Wilson Ramos right? Asking Frazier and Abreu to carry this offense again next year is completely delusional.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) It does seem high, but you never know. Future Sox preseason #5 Sox prospect was Tyler Danish. A team's Tyler Danish and a couple of lesser guys doesn't seem like a really steep price if Shields performs like a #3 or #4 pitcher. Depressing to see that Danish was the Sox preseason #5 prospect. Starting pitching is in such high demand right now that trading Shields should yield something one would think. Shields days as a #3 are done. I hope the Sox can move him as he is a prime candidate to completly implode ala Danks within the next year or so.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) It's wrong to think they will be as valuable next July because of three things: 1. They could get hurt (knock on wood, but it happens). 2. The trade market will be richer with expiring contracts, so there will be more supply. 3. They will have less team control left. The time to strike is absolutely now. I understand that the FO is deluded about the chance of competing next year, but that doesn't excuse doing nothing. Winners strike while the iron is hot. All 3 are valid points. The Sox should strike now if they are gonna go full rebuild. That being said, I just can't see anyway that this team trades Sale or Q. This is organization that is afraid of change and doesn't make bold moves. KW and Hahn will sit paralyzed on the fence while the trade deadline passes them bye just like the last two years.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) According to Levine, Sox price on Shields, one of their top 5 prospects and 2 lesser ones. The Sox FO is more delusional than I thought if they honestly think that Shields is gonna bring back a top 5 prospect plus 2 other prospects. Never gonna happen. Shields will still be in a Sox uniform next week if that is the asking price and the Sox won't budge.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:55 AM) Reddick I think is realistic. He was looking for a 4- year extension with the A's and they only want him at 3 (why would you not give him 4th year?). However, being on the open market he'll probably get 5 (which I wouldn't be opposed to). I have no faith in the Sox FO to get Reddick after they screwed up not getting an outfielder last offseason. The Sox will get outbid as he will want close to $100 million for a 5 year deal. Jerry ain't gonna pay that and it leaves no money for a decent catcher or legit DH.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) Probably but I'm just saying trading off a player or 2 doesn't quite mean rebuilding. Trading off a player or two is just half stepping it. The Sox really need to pick a lane. Either trade away your top chips or push all your chips onto the table for the rest of this year and next. I just don't know who the Sox can realistically expect to add in the offseason that is gonna improve this putrid offense.
  17. Strop, Rondon, Chapman is a nasty 7-8-9 punch. Must be nice to have a GM and President that have an actual plan and know how to acquire legit talent.
  18. So if the Sox don't end up selling, who can they realistically expect to bring in next year to help this putrid offense?
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) I think he could bring back close to what Chapman got personally. Other than 3-4 outings, he's had a good season. No way. Robertson is nowhere close to Chapman. C'mon man!
  20. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) The big statement here is "If it is done right..." Who really trusts Rick Hahn to do a rebuild right in the next few days? I used to believe we should be sellers, but now I just want us to stand pat. I don't trust him to get good value for the assets we have and I'd prefer to wait for a firesale until we have a GM that could do it efficiently. In addition, I really think this team could be a playoff team as is with a new manager. I know it ain't going to happen this season, but the if we kick Ventura to the curb in the offseason, I'm not sure I want to sell leading into the 2017 season. A new manager is definitely needed. I think Robin will just resign during the offseason and both sides will save some face. A new manager is not going to be enough to get this team to the playoffs next year, however. The Sox will have to fill huge holes at DH, C, and CF. They will need another arm or two for the bullpen. They will need another starter to replace Shields (either traded or implodes). Then you still need to hope that Abreu bounces back, that Frazier can do more than just hit dingers, that Anderson and Rodon continue to develop, that Gonzalez doesn't turn back into a pumpkin, etc. That is too much hoping and wishing for my tastes. It's time to try something other than retooling.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) As a resounding gong these problems all stem from poor drafting and development along with no investment in managing. This times a thousand. I take a look at the farms of Houston, Boston, Cubs, LA, Texas, Pitt and as a Sox fan I just wonder where they got all those nice shiny toys from. Then I remember that KW was calling the shots for way too long. His wheeling and dealing and terrible drafting of "toolsy" outfielders was a total catastrophe. Unfortunately he is still around and I don't see him or Reinsdorf ever committing to an actual rebuild.
  22. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) That is certainly what history would suggest. I just can't see this FO doing a complete 180 and tearing this thing down. That is not how KW and Reinsdorf roll. We are still in year 2 of some sort of 3 year plan. The only guy I see possibly getting moved is Shields. Otherwise, the Sox are gonna sit on their hands at the deadline for the third straight year. The same core will be back next year without any major additions like Reddick, Encarncion, or Ramos/Wieters. It is beyond frustrating and I hope that I'm wrong, but this front office is either too scared or too stubborn to make any major changes.
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) We all want a solid contender to be built, right? The overwhelming consensus here (whether we're right or wrong) is that bringing in veterans to plug holes hasn't worked & won't work if we try it again (definition of insanity right?). Do I doubt that some move veteran addition could be made that looks good in itself? Of course not. But we don't believe that the aggregate product will look much different than right now. The Sox aren't gonna move Sale or Q. This FO only knows how to do one thing and that is rebuild on the fly. It's very difficult to teach an old dog any new tricks. The Sox will bring back the same core next year and try to dumpster dive again in the offseason with veterans to fill CF, C, and DH.
  24. The Sox will stand pat just like last year and make no major moves. The FO doesn't have the balls to blow it up and move Sale/Q nor do they have the balls to trade Fulmer and Anderson for an impact player like Cargo or Lucroy. Hopefully they will be willing to pony up the money for Encarncion, Wieters, and an outfielder like Reddick during the offseason.
  25. Reports out there that the Cubs are in on Reddick. Always thought he would look good in a Sox uniform. I guess the rich just get richer... Depressing time to be a Sox fan. I don't expect the Sox to make any major moves. They will just sit on their hands like last year.
