  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) If we somehow end up with an 8 team playoff (I prefer a 4) and it's 6 BCS conferences plus 2 at large (which in theory go to the 'smaller' schools anyways), the setup is a complete waste and does more harm than good. The other 2 spots would go to the highest remaining ranked teams in the BCS standings. No automatic bids for the smaller schools. This year we would have USC, Cincy, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Penn St. and Virgina Tech. Now it isn't perfect, but it sure as hell would be better than the current system for determining a champion.
  2. The SEC is by far the worst major conference in college basketball and it isn't even close. Outside of Tennessee I don't see a single good team in the conference.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) This playoff system makes the most sense (based on last weeks rankings): #1 Alabama vs. #8 Penn State (Sugar Bowl game on Jan. 2) #2 Oklahoma vs. #7 Texas Tech (Cotton Bowl game on Jan. 2) #3 Texas vs. #6 Utah (Capital One Bowl game on Jan. 1) #4 Florida vs. #5 USC (Rose Bowl game on Jan. 1) This would be followed by: #1 vs. #8 winner vs. #4 vs. #5 winner (Orange Bowl game on Jan. 10; 9 days later than actual schedule) #2 vs. #7 winner vs, #3 vs. #6 winner (Fiesta Bowl game on Jan. 10; 5 days later than actual schedule) Championship Game (Dolphin Stadium on Jan. 18; week later than actual schedule) I can't see anyway the major conferences (ACC, Big 10, SEC, Big 12, Pac 10) would agree to a playoff without being guaranteed one entry.
  4. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) I'm pretty sure the "update" was the records on the page. All of those BCS ranks are exactly the same as the numbers from last week. They updated the coaches poll as well but apparently not the points from it.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) They'll lose earlier than people expect in March due to their lack of size, as is starting to become a tradition in Durham. I don't get why Coach K ignores bigs so much in recruiting these days. He has always favored having one true post with an athletic 4 who can stretch the court. The problem has been getting the stud center. When you have Brand or Shelden Williams you can get away with having a guy like Battier or currently Singler at the 4. I don't think he ignores big men, I think he just has a system where he feels he only needs a couple of true post players on his team. McRoberts while a good player didn't really pan out the way they hoped which hurt and Zoubek has not lived up to his ranking at all. He has a couple highly regarded PFs coming in next year btw.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Really, really bad loss for Illinois in the sense that they MUST win games like that one if they have plans to make the NCAA Tournament. Clemson is a good team, but Illinois can't lose that one. The ending was certainly inexcuseable, but Illinois can't win playing that poorly on defense and that is where the game was realistically lost. The Bruce Weber coached team tradition of not getting a good end of game shot continues though, although really it's more on the players when there isn't a shot taken at all. Wish somebody would've called that last timeout with 5 or 6 seconds left, it was clear that was going nowhere. And the Big 10 might have a shot this year since Jack McClinton handed them a win that otherwise doesn't happen. That last play was 100% on McCamey. He dogged it up the court and did a piss poor job using the screen because he didn't even run his man into it. Plus Meacham was wide open in the corner and he missed him. Then decides to pass it to Frazier with about a second left.
  7. What the hell was Tillman doing on that play?
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) Davis is starting to figure it out obviously. If Tisdale ever follows suit (and although in a different way, he has just as much raw talent as Davis IMO), that is a nasty duo to deal with on the front line. Combine that with McCamey and Legion, and that is certainly something right there in the Big 10 for the rest of this year before the calvary arrival the next 2 years, which would help even more going with those 4 current sophomores in the future. Tisdale saved the day today though, hopefully they take out Tulsa tomorrow. Tisdale just needs to get stronger. It is still too easy to take the ball from him but his offensive skill is tremendous. And when he plays with confidence like he did down the stretch he is a huge weapon. Plus he and Davis with their length and athleticism alter a lot of shots which is a nice to see. It has been a while since Illinois has had a shot blocking presence.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Tried turning on the Illini game on for kicks since it's on fox college sports on comcast ch 413 through one of those sports packages...and it's on. Thanks to whoever did that. Illinois beats Kent St. in OT. Tisdale still makes plays that will drive you nuts but he was terrific down the stretch. Another really nice game by Davis as well. This team is so much more entertaining to watch than last year.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) These stories always suck. The school pays for it, even after they get rid of the problem. My take with regards to Indiana is that you can't hire a known cheater and then cry about the school being punished when he cheats. Schools absolutely should be punished for having a cheater even if he is fired. Otherwise there is no incentive for schools to monitor cheating.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) You are correct technically. However it's strange that Weis won with Willingham's players at a pretty good rate the first couple of years he was in South Bend, but now the last couple with his own players, he's been pretty bad. I agree, but the perception of people close to the program could very well be that based on Weis's on paper recruiting they are heading in the right direction. And they are fairly young although I really don't see the type of elite talent you would expect from such highly regarded classes outside of Floyd. Not firing Weis would certainly raise questions but I don't think it as simply as Willingham being black and Weis being white.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) If he's not, I think its pretty obvious that Willingham was fired for reasons other than his record. Well in fairness, Weis has recruited better than Willingham (on paper at least). Not saying he shouldn't be fired but that would be a difference between the two.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I didn't expect Indiana to be so poor. Did all of Sampson's kids transfer or something? Transferred or kicked off the team
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) Eh, I'll defend southern here. They have only lost to two teams that Illinois wouldn't stand a chance against either. UMASS isn't a bad win either. SIU is still only the second best team in the state though. UCLA lost to Michigan but Illinois wouldn't stand a chance? Ridiculous
  15. Memphis still can't shoot FTs at all. It is pathetic
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:12 AM) Wow I did not know that, thanks guys. All of that stuff isn't going to happen, but I've always heard there was a rule against 3 teams, and I always heard it falsely apparently. Because generally that is what all announcers and sportswriters say and it is true except in the incredibly unlikely circumstance that somehow a conference has the number 1 and 2 ranked teams in the BCS and neither one of them wins the conference championship.
  17. Real nice win for Illinois tonight
  18. I think the Bulls should try to give up more dunks tonight.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Hughes sucks. Gordon shoots too much and hates defense apparently. Tyrus is a waste of athleticism. Noah blows. Deng is overpaid big time. Nocioni stinks. Gooden is medicore. Yet, Rose doesn't touch the ball and all these nimrods do. Outside of Rose who exactly do you want shooting the ball in place of Gordon right now?
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Didnt Rasheid Davis drop the last pass? Thats what Joniak said No, it was thrown behind him and high so he only really get one hand on it.
  21. I hope Locksley gets a head coaching job so we can get an offensive coordinator who actually knows what the f*** he is doing.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) Anyone smell an upset from the Hawkeyes in Iowa City on Saturday vs Penn State? Snowy and windy means Clark won't be able to work his magic for Penn State, and all Iowa wants to do is run the ball anyways... Penn St. averages more rushing YDS/G and defensively is slightly stronger than Iowa against the run.
