QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) I just got back from seeing WALL-E. Simply astounding!!! Pixar is not making animated films. They are making movies that are beautiful, funny, emotional and thoughtful. The kids in the audience were transfixed! The first part of the movie was like watching a Chaplin film and the kids loved it. No dialouge, just beeps and body language. No hip Zebras, Smart-ass Will Smith-fish or Neurotic Bees making cutsie pop culture references. Just simple, haunting and amazing. This is not just one of the best animated films in recent years, but one of the best FILMS...period. How serious is Pixar on making movies? They hired Roger Deakins, who is the cinematographer for the Coen Brothers, to be the Director of Photogrphay/Visual Consultant for WALL-E. I dare you not to want to hold someone's hand after this film. You'll see why. I thought it was absolutely fantastic as well. I'm interested to see if it can actually get a nomination for Best Picture. I thought it was one of the most creative films I have seen in a long time and the kids in the theater absolutely ate it up. Pixar is just amazing.
  2. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) This has been great to see. I do believe Konerko and Thome in the same lineup magnifies the all or nothing issue they have had all season. I think the offense has been more balanced with Konerko out as well as with the Sox in NL parks and no DH. Considering Konerko's replacements have been Anderson and Wise I don't really see how the offense has been more balanced. It isn't like those guys are getting on base or producing at a great rate. Basically have just replaced Konerko's automatic out thus far this year with Wise or Anderson being an automatic out. Having the top 4 guys in the lineup hit in addition to Alexei and Swish hitting has made the difference, not Konerko being out.
  3. WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) Arthur added to Oden and Aldridge in the big man rotation, nice. Assuming Oden stays healthy, the rest of the NBA has probably about a two year window before the Portland dynasty begins.
  5. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) The only guy that I don't like on this team is Carmelo. It has more to do with him as a person than his play. I'm not sure how much Kidd has left, either. Kobe Bryant LeBron James Dwyane Wade Carmelo Anthony Jason Kidd Tayshaun Prince Carlos Boozer Chris Bosh Dwight Howard Chris Paul Michael Redd Deron Williams Story. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug...p&type=lgns Carmelo has been absolutely amazing in FIBA play. And as a person, Kobe is a much bigger douchebag than Carmelo.
  6. Yay for swinging at pitches over your head
  7. That strike to Ramirez was ridiculously generous to a pitcher who can't even come close to the strikezone.
  8. What a pathetic call, that was one of the worst calls on a check swing I have ever seen.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Too bad we can't go first to third like the Flubs. Jose is to blame for that 4 inning disaster; not Ozzie BTW. Really so when a pitcher completely sucks it isn't on the manager to pull him before the game gets out of hand. Conteras was awful and didn't do his job. Neither did Ozzie.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) It's been that way for 3 straight games. Isn't this around the time when he hit the wall in 2006? He definitely started to struggle in June but it wasn't until after the all star break that he started to suck. And that year his struggles were at least related to an injury.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) hey sox hitters, this is how you play baseball. Take what they give you! Dont swing for the fences on every pitch *cough* thome, crede, konerko *cough* There isn't a team in MLB that wouldn't have killed Contreras today. His forkball had no life and he couldn't locate anything
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) You have a terrible in-game manager against one of the best in baseball....it's like we're playing 9 on 10 this weekend. Way to wait until after the Cubs score 8 damn runs to pull him Ozzie. WTF
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) It might be time for Ozzie to warm up Masset or someone. Danks would of been gone already if he was on the bump. Pull Danks after 85 pitches when he is absolutely dominating. Leave Contreras in when he clearly has nothing to get b**** slapped.
  14. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) - Weber, on the Big Ten race: “The league should be wide open and we can be right in the middle of it. I do know one thing, though. I think Indiana will suck. Don’t put that on the Internet.” Though this may be the case next year for the revamped Hoosiers, I hope we shove it down your whiny throat Bruce. Still can't get over it can you. Yeah, just ignore the context of him saying this at an event for Illinois fans and that he was clearly joking.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) Deron Williams was a mediocre shooting during his time with the Illini. And as a freshman his outside game was bad enough that it was actually a liability at times. I know this post will be Illini heavy but Luther Head is another guy who as a freshman was a mediocre shooter at best and he has become a great 3 pt shooter. There are tons of guards who weren't great shooters at 19 that become very good or even great outside shooters. Rose has great form on his jump shot and he is not near as bad from the outside as some people make him out to be. I'd actually be pretty surprised if Rose does not become a very good outside shooter.
  16. Lakers benefit from a extremely generous no call.
  17. Brandon McGee dismissed from IU. Indiana could be in big trouble with the APR if a lot of these guys being dismissed were not in good academic standing when they left.
  18. QUOTE (Felix @ May 22, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) That's a real shame about Maddux being #17 here. He's the best pitcher of our generation, definitely should be higher. I completely forgot about him because I associate him with the Braves even though I included other guys who did most of their best work elsewhere. If I would have thought harder about my list I definitely would have included him and he would have been high on my list.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 20, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Ok, I fane ignorance because I never expected the Bulls to pick this high, so I havent "scouted" the top 3 guys. Is Rose a true Point Guard or can he play Shooting guard? That might alter who I want. I think Kirk and Rose can co-exist if Rose can play the 2. but I dont think Rose and Gordon can if Rose played 1. Rose is a pure PG and a phenomenal one at that. He is a better prospect then Paul or Williams coming out of college and it would not be surprising at all if he surpassed those two.
  20. Carlos Boozer sucks
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ May 15, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) Interesting. For one year, not bad until Dillard and crew get worked in and a fall back plan if Bone doesn't come through. Wish CLo would get some big guys. He wouldn't be eligible this year though. You would be tying up a scholarship for 2 years for Freeman to play 1.
  22. And awesome homer officiating gives the Lakers two buckets on obvious push offs by Pau Gasol late.
  23. Carlos Boozer seriously sucks. Single handedly losing this game for the Jazz. Absolutely pathetic defense on Odom, he is a turnover machine, and he can't finish around the hoop.
  24. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Rivals updated 2009 rankings have come out. The two names that have been raved about this summer both have jumped up. John Wall has moved to #1 overall. John Henson has leaped to #5 overall. Both have wowed them this summer. I'm thrilled to see Henson dominate, but the Wear twins actually fell to 54/55 respectivley, while Dex. Strickland stayed solid at #16 for the Tarheel commits. Illinois is represented by Paul at #49, Richardson at #57, Bertrand at #77, and Griffey at #123. Before Illinois fans get worried about Griffey's ranking, he is not concentrating on AAU ball this summer and his AAU team is freaking terrible even when he does play. This isn't a Semrau situation.
  25. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) Well, that's strange. Setting picks you mean? Hope he wasn't out there shooting 3s... I saw him once. He's slow...not very mobile. Kinda soft. But he is 7 foot. He was supposed to be a 2009 recruit so maybe he'll be redshirted so he can develop some more. I had similar feelings. He is absolutely huge, but he seemed stiff and is not a good athlete. Despite his size he likely will never be much of a shot blocker. I've heard his post game is developing but that he is still very mechanical on the blocks. But NW badly needs size and Rowley is about 7 ft 290 and he does have potential so he is a good pickup for them.
