  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) Bowl games sure as hell don't support that point. Maybe not, but PSU beat Ohio St. and was one play away from being undefeated. I'm not sure how you can say OSU was the better team when they lost to Penn St.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I thought at one point we recovered a fumble or something (only to have it reviewed and over-turned) or had a TD come back that could have tied it and than OSU instead shut the door. But if ND wasn't outclassed speed wise in the secondary it would have been more of a game. However, it was the type of game that even when it got close I really didn't think ND would win. But thats cause OSU was clearly the 3rd best team in the country. However that OSU team is probably national champs most years, but it just happened that two of the best teams in college history both happened to appear in 05 (Texas and USC). That OSU lost 2 games and lost to a Penn St. team that only lost 1 game and was one play away from being undefeated. PSU was the better team last year.

However that OSU team is probably national champs most years, but it just happened that two of the best teams in college history both happened to appear in 05 (Texas and USC). ND scored a TD to make the score 27-20 with a little over 5 minutes left and then OSU on their next drive scored a TD. There was a fumble return for TD called back much earlier in the game. The fumble itself was over ruled, and the TD wouldn't have counted anyways due to a penalty.
  4. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Notre Dame has done just as much as Florida and Tennessee that they are a top 10 team. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Texas with the impressive win against Nebraska. Florida with the impressive win versus... nobody. Florida has beaten LSU and Tennessee. Both of those teams are better than anyone Notre Dame has beaten. Tennessee killed Cal who hasn't lost since that 1st game and also killed Geogria. But we can ignore this and pretend Notre Dame has better wins than that if that would make you feel better.
  5. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) And what about USC? And Tennessee had the same kinda game we did, and they jumped us... Then theres Florida, who didnt even play, who also jumped us. USC hasn't lost a game and has wins against Nebraska and Arkansas. Notre Dame has beaten a decent but not great Georgia Tech team that just got pounded by Clemson. They got their asses kicked by Michigan. Barely beat bad MSU and UCLA teams. Florida has beaten Tennessee and LSU. Tennessee has wins over Cal and Georgia. I fail to see what ND has done to be ranked above any of those teams other than be ranked higher to begin the season. Fact of the matter is that Notre Dame hasn't done a anything to show they are a top 10 team.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) Anyone just see that play that Chavez just made? In the context of the game and its settings, that's one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. Best defensive play I have ever seen in a playoff game.

  8. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Illini nation, what a proud group. Every fan base in the country would have some moron make death threats in this situation. Guaranteed. It isn't an indictment of a fan base, it is an indictment of the stupidity of the human race.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) It was against a bad team, but it's nice to know this team can come back from a large hole. Agreed. That saying just works both ways.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) The old cliche works to a tee tonight. Good teams find a way to win. And bad teams find a way to lose.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) I believe it regarding Gordon. I don't think the kid is a slimeball, but his dad sure as hell is. But if Gordon has indeed been a silent verbal for weeks, that is an even louder indictment of Bruce. How so? Gordon was telling him he was still coming to Illinois. Gordon was telling McCamey he was still coming to Illinois. Was he supposed to just magically know the kid was lying?
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) Okay, Chicagoland area if you want to get technical, which Weber still can't recruit from. Spears came to the school and decomitted after one year with Weber IIRC. As far as guys like Brian Randle, you have to be kidding me. Teams on his list were Illinois, Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Stanford. I guess schools like Duke aren't above Illinois. Warren Carter was a top 100 recruit. #83 according to scout.com. Well I'm going back on my previous post. If Warren Carter counts as top 100 so do Jackson, Brock, and Tisdale for Weber since they have all appeared on top 100 lists.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) There's a difference though, Kruger was able to get guys like Brian Cook, Sergia McClain, and Frank Williams that were in-state. Plus he got Corey Bradford who was a promising recruit from out of state. Weber's recruiting class pretty much depended on Gordon and it fell through big. Tell me all of the talented players from central Illinois in Weber's tenure. Livingston, Jamar, Cole, and ???. The talent from Illinois has been down big time. Making Weber's misses much worse than Self's. Self missed on Andre Iguodola, Dockery, Thompson, among others but still was able to get Dee and Augie. Besides if you are going to give credit to self for recruiting Head then Weber gets credit for Brock who was just as highly regarded as a recruit. Carlwell was a more highly regarded big man than anyone Self brought in. Pruitt is from the Chicagoland area as is McCamey. I'm done discussing this.
  14. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Tell me if im wrong but wasnt Dee Brown a chicagoland dude. It is a known fact that Coaches don't like weber and he is kept out of the "circle". good luck getting assistants. Brown was from Maywood. Its a suburb of Chicagoland. And Weber got Carlwell from the same school. Self did a great job getting Deron out of Texas and getting Dee. His other recruiting wins at Illinois were nothing special (unless you count Villanueva who didn't sign a LOI). Randle and McBride were from central Illinois, Illinois was the biggest school on their lists and they likely would have been Illini no matter what. Head wasn't a top 100 recruit. Blandon Ferguson was awful. Spears was a late decommit. Kyle Wilson wasn't top 100. Augustine was between Illinois and Purdue. Warren Carter wasn't a top 100 recruit. Weber needs to change his recruiting philosophy I agree, but Self was no recruiting god at Illinois.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) You know for damn sure Rose isn't committing to Illinois. That's not even a question. He'll probably committ to Indiana since all I've been hearing is that if Gordon committs to Indiana, he would like to as well. And yes, they need to start picking guys off other staffs from Chicago because they are losing guys left and right. Chicago hasn't been friendly to Illinois since Deon Thomas. Kruger couldn't recruit Chicago for s***, and Self didn't do well in Chicago either till he left Illinois.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) my point exactly...bravo to you, great post. Weber has lost Chicago, which Self won back for Illinois, and is now taking for himself .Sampson and Izzo and Motta are going to eat up the midwest. Diamonds in a rough only come once in a while. Self never had Chicago while he was at Illinois. He didn't have Chicago till he moved to KU. His Chicago recruits were Head who wasn't at top 100 player and Aaron Spears who wasn't good. He lost out on Dockery and Thompson who were the two big recruits from Chicago. Illinois hasn't been able to recruit Chicago since the Deon Thomas affair. Proviso East isn't the CPL and Weber has already landed a pretty big recruit from there in Brian Carlwell.
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) Haha awesome. I know just about anything I say is going to make me look like an asshole, but I'm sorry Illini fans. I know this is a huge blow, and there's nothing enjoyable about it. However, I hope you guys can still pull a solid class, and we've definitely got one solid rivalry on our hands now. Honestly I don't think IU or Sampson did anything wrong in this case. Sampson is a scumbag for other reasons, but not for this. He calculated right hiring his entire staff to entice EJ. My entire problem with the situation was that EJ and his father are liars who handled this situation as poorly as possible.
  18. QUOTE(SnB @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) f***ing god damnit son of a b****. Well our kickoff tonight certainly should have a somber mood. At least Jeremy Piven is going to be there.
  19. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Since you believe he was not really torn and was just leading illinois along, why did he do it? I'm curious about the anti-illini consipiracy... Where did I say he wasn't really torn? I'm saying that if he was torn which he clearly was, you don't tell Weber you are still going to be an Illini. He told McCamey this week that he was still going to Illinois. It is complete bulls***.
  20. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) EJ ending up where he belongs is just how it needs to be. Had KS been with us to begin with, he would have never even committed to Illinois. This is so BIG. Huge for Indiana. This really hurts Weber and the program. To the Gordon family, you handled this terribly and you are a bunch of liars with no character. I was going to be pissed if he decommitted but I would have understood. But you don't continuously tell the coaching staff at UI you are committed. You don't consistently tell the other recruits going there you are committed. You don't tell the fans you don't feel any differently about Illinois. That is bulls***. And don't tell me that he is a 17 year old kid. They know exactly what they are doing.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) There is a better chance of Rose to Illinois than Gordon to Indiana. Only reason this story has been this crazy is the peegs dorks that are speculating and starting rumors (and that's not hating on the Indiana fans here, who aren't stupid). Gordon will re affirm publicly to Illinois soon, and the peegs dorks will go crazy, even though they will be fine since Sampson is doing a great job recruiting. This isn't true. It is clear he was at least thinking about Indiana. Now unless Gordon is constantly lying to McCamey, the other recruits, and the coaching staff I think he will be an Illini. But stranger things have happened.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Uncalled for. Really dumb and not funny at all.
  23. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Game of the century!!! That was a fun watch and love the outcome. Thank god Zook can recruit because outside of John L. Smith he is the worst in game coach in the conference. Going for 2 twice in the first half? Seriously what the hell is that. And then rushing 3, with 2 minutes left and IU only needing a FG. Terrible.
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) FNL was very fast paced. Hour was over before I knew it. Lots of similarities to the movie and book, but it will have to branch out further as a TV show and judging by previews, it will. I wasn't a big fan. I thought the football scenes were awful and that really takes away from the show. The game winning play was so unrealistic it killed the entire episode for me.
  25. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) Jeter only 5-5 tonight. You just can't get him out in the playoffs/october. No matter what you think of him, he's awesome this time of year, Not including today, his career playoff numbers were actually slightly below his career regular season numbers.
