Gonzaga is a bunch of cocky arrogant thugs. I hate this group of players more than Duke. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) So loooking through some of the Best Picture movies, the Green Mile is one of the few that actually makes me sad. What year would Hotel Rwanda have been? I also thought that was one of the better movies I've ever seen. Green Mile is a great movie. Hotel Rwanda would have been 2004 I believe.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Good Will Hunting is not a good movie. Robin Williams is pretty good, and I like the "Do you like apples?" line, but the acting, overall, is terrible and the dialogue is worse. Worse, still, is that two guys from Boston can't do a passable Boston accent. I'm not a huge fan of Good Will Hunting, although I do like it. But I can't even watch Titanic straight through. Agree with whoever said it was a weak year for nominees because I didn't think As Good as it Gets was really a great film either.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) I loved it.. when the damn ship finally sank. Ugh.. what a snoozefest that was. Agreed completely.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) why? Well to be completely honest it bored the hell out of me, I can't even sit through the damn thing, and I would never watch it again. I don't have trouble with long movies at all yet this one dragged on forever to me. And there is nothing special about it at all. The plot was not original at all. Poor boy meets rich girl and they fall in love is done all the time and in this case is done rather poorly. In the case of the Titanic at that point in time not exactly very realistic on top of that. I'm not a critic I don't watch movies to complain about little details but I do expect to either enjoy movies I got to or at least be compelled by them and Titanic did neither. Plus the dialogue was pretty bad at parts. This doesn't always bother me but "I'm the king of the world" is about as bad as it gets. I know a lot of people like this movie and I don't have a problem with that. There are movies I like that people absolutely hate, but for my money Titanic was a C type picture at best.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) LA Confidential>>>>>>Titanic. I'm sure it is. Out of the Oscar winners I've seen in the last 15 years Titanic is easily the worst film of the group.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) 1997 (70th) BEST PICTURE As Good As It Gets -- James L. Brooks, Bridget Johnson and Kristi Zea, Producers The Full Monty -- Uberto Pasolini, Producer Good Will Hunting -- Lawrence Bender, Producer L.A. Confidential -- Arnon Milchan, Curtis Hanson and Michael Nathanson, Producers * Titanic -- James Cameron and Jon Landau, Producers Still boggles my mind that Titanic won an Oscar for best Picture. I haven't seen L.A. Confidential or The Full Monty but Good Will Hunting>>>>>>>>>>>>Titanic.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) It wasn't a HORRIBLE movie, but it was a lock for Oscars based on the plotline if it was ANY good at all. I am not going to argue since you clearly disagree, but the Oscars have a history of this crap. Care to provide some examples? Edit: And I haven't seen Brokeback so I have no idea if it is worthy of a nomination but I doubt it got one just because of its subject.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Minny winning out would be the one thing IU fans would hate. IU is an absolute lock at this point. -
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) They nominate a movie that glamorizes suicied bombers for an award, but fail to mention Theo Van gogh in the 'who died this year' list, even though he died for his art. Could it be bacause he was killed by a Muslim lunitic? I guess they can't be both heros and killers in the eyes of Hollywood. Did you even see Munich?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Boooo Gonzaga wins. I hate them for whatever reason, can't stand them. I hate them because they get a ton of hype that they don't deserve at all and will likely be seeded too high again this year. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) I don't know, GW is ranked #6 and #7 right now in the ESPN/AP polls, and if they win their tourney with Pops coming back, they would end up somewhere around 29-1 while creeping up the official NCAA RPI where the moved up to #29 this week from #33. If they sneak into the RPI top 25, it could be an argument they make. No chance whatsoever. They have 2 top 50 wins, both of which were against St. Joes who may not even make the tourney and they have one other good win against Maryland who probably won't make the tourney. They might end up making noise in the tourney but if they get a #1 seed it would be an absolute joke. To be honest I would be surprised if they even get a 2 seed. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) If Duke takes care of business in the ACC tourney, then I agree, 1 seed no doubt. But if they falter again in the ACC tourney, someone like GW, OSU, or Gonzaga could sneak up and steal the last 1 seed. GW has no chance at all at a 1 seed and I think OSU already is one. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Our resume is almost better then every other bubble team. We got 7 wins against the top 50 by the way kyyle. We're in, there is no doubt in my mind now. Our rpi is right around 35 now, 7 top 50 wins which is just so much more then any of the other bubble teams. Unless the committee just feels like screwing the valley over, we're in. Don't get me wrong, they definitely should get in. But they also have 4 flat out awful losses, and the RPI doesn't take into account the loss to Alaska Anchorage but the tourney committee will. Southern had no good non conference wins, and only has one good road win. All those things are factored in. It really depends on how many teams the committee decides to let in from the MVC. If its 4 than Southern very possibly won't get in. If its 5 they are in. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Outstanding! It is amazing how perfect the timing is on a lot of those moves. Especially the shot to beat Utah and the swith hand layup against the Lakers. -

I love how Patrick and Vitale are ripping on security. As if security can stop hundreds of fans from storming the court. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) How in the f*** wasn't that an intentional foul called on Dee? The funny thing is that Illini fans are freaking out about the refs, and that non-intentional foul was a turning point in this game. Should have been. Although I've always thought that rule is one of the dumber rules in sports. -

Illinois rated second best student section in NCAA
whitesoxfan99 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) Illinois has a terrible student section, IMO. They actually have people who try and stop cheers to keep the Krush's reputation as classy. So basically, all their cheers are boring and unoriginal. It's a student section for christ sake. Let them do what they want. The Big 10 doesn't allow teams to single out opposing players for chants. Limits some of the chants you can do. This is the Pierre Pierce/Steve Alford rule. -
