  1. I know I'm late to the party but I'm still pissed about the hose job Illinois got from the refs today. We were handchecking on the perimeter and the refs decided to call that incredibly close today. I wouldn't have a problem with that, except for the fact that Washington was doing the same damn thing on D without getting called at all. Jones did nothing but hold and push Dee all night and never got called. Also, Dee and Randle drove several times with contact and there was no calls. Two other things that absolutely kill me were Roy's major walk on his drive when he tied the game not being called and the 10 seconds Washington was given to inbounds the ball on the play WHarris mentioned. Absolutely pathetic officiating. I hope those guys are never allowed to work another college basketball game ever again. Also, have to love that the team with 38 points in the paint goes to the line 11 times and the team with 20 points in the paint goes to the line 39 times.
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) Indiana finds a way to win it. Two weird plays destroy my upset pick. Same here. Stupid Heath not being able to dribble the ball. Indiana got lucky as hell.
  3. Anyone else notice that Lofton travelled before the shot?
  4. Strength of schedule is a joke to look at by the way. Illinois got hammered in SOS for playing really bad cupcakes instead of cupcakes. Lets compare UNC's schedule to Illinois. I'm not even complaining about the seed anymore but people who bring up SOS don't seem to understand the RPI. You can have a much higher strength of schedule without actually having a more difficult schedule. UNC Gardner Webb 157 Home Cleveland St. 245 Home UC Santa Barbara 219 Home Illinois 14 Home (tourney team) Kentucky 41 Away (tourney team) St. Louis 101 Home Santa Clara 184 Home Southern Cal 117 Away UNC Ashville 239 Home Davidon 94 Home (tourney team) Arizona 24 Home (tourney team) Illinois S. Dakota St. 276 Home Texas Pan American 330 Home Texas Southern 307 Home Wichita St. 27 Neutral Court (tourney) Rutger 75 Neutral UNC 12 Away (tourney) Xavier 77 Home/United Center (tourney) Arkansas Little Rock Home 216 Georgetown 36 Home (tourney) Oregon 147 Semi Away Coppin St. 215 Home Missouri 139 Neutral Southeast Missouri St. 313 Home Tennessee Martin 224 Home We played the same amount of tourney teams, and Illinois played more top 100 teams as well as more away and neutral games. The reason Illinois SOS is so much worse is due to extra games against cupcakes. Instead of playing the Southeast MIssouri Sts of the world, Illinois had played Radford, Yale, Eastern Kentucky, etc. the SOS would have jumped dramatically when in fact the difficulty of the schedule would really be no different and Illinois would have been in the top 10 in the RPI.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) It'll be interesting to see what he does when he's finally playing people closer to his size. He has dominated every big man he has played against throughout his high school career. He plays against guys his size during AAU and at the summer camps and dominated every big man in his class. The guy would be start for quite a few NBA teams next year, he is going to be a dominant force at the college level.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Thornwood upsets Homewood-Flossmor in 3OT, 40-38. At the UIC. Simeon sent Brian Carlwell and Proviso East home in the 2nd game, 67-57. Both team advance down state. Proviso East's guards absolutely suck. They have no concept of how to play the game of basketball. None of them can pass at all and they all just chuck contested 25 foot threes. Carlwell showed me a lot of potential. He runs the floor like a guard, he is a terrific passer for a 7'0", he has good size, nice touch for a big man, and he altered nearly every shot not taken by Simeon other than the ones taken by Rose. Unfortunately his guards decide to ignore him over and over again for some reason. He needs to work on fighting for position in the blocks a little better and he has to learn to keep the ball high because he got tied up a couple of times by guards. Weber has a ton to work with in Carlwell. Rose is phenomenal. Out of control at times but a terrific talent. Unbelievable first step. Not quite at Eric Gordon's level IMO as a player but I drool over the thought of the two of them in a backcourt together.
  7. Well we got f***ed. Thank you tourney committee.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) DEFENSE Close game with a few minutes left. I sure hope the Hawks can hang on, but man are they playing some D. Actually its more really crappy basketball than defense. Both teams are extremely tired and are very short on every shot.
  9. Anyone hear anything about Allan Ray yet?
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) Updates, anyone... Not so much the score, but moreso how the game is going... MSU playing well? ILL playing s***ty? MSU has played decent. More than anything it has been Illinois playing terrible, Dee is off and forcing bad shots. And Illinois is giving up a lot of offensive rebounds. 9-18 from the FT line has killed us more than anything else though.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) This Gonzaga team is going down SO FAST in the NCAA Tourney, it isn't even funny. If they're a one seed, they'll definitely be the first one seed knocked off. Gosh, I hope Marquette is in the Zags bracket. If Gonzaga is a one seed the tourney committee is an absolute fraud. Gonzaga doesn't even deserve a 2 seed.
  12. Gonzaga is a joke, they need a guy to choke on a wideopen layup to beat a HS level basketball team.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I don't want anyone to say that wasn't a traveling call. Borderline, but GU definitely got away with a foul on LMU's next possession.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Since when is 5 pulling away? LMU up 1 now
  15. Gonzaga is a bunch of cocky arrogant thugs. I hate this group of players more than Duke.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) So loooking through some of the Best Picture movies, the Green Mile is one of the few that actually makes me sad. What year would Hotel Rwanda have been? I also thought that was one of the better movies I've ever seen. Green Mile is a great movie. Hotel Rwanda would have been 2004 I believe.
  17. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Good Will Hunting is not a good movie. Robin Williams is pretty good, and I like the "Do you like apples?" line, but the acting, overall, is terrible and the dialogue is worse. Worse, still, is that two guys from Boston can't do a passable Boston accent. I'm not a huge fan of Good Will Hunting, although I do like it. But I can't even watch Titanic straight through. Agree with whoever said it was a weak year for nominees because I didn't think As Good as it Gets was really a great film either.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) I loved it.. when the damn ship finally sank. Ugh.. what a snoozefest that was. Agreed completely.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) why? Well to be completely honest it bored the hell out of me, I can't even sit through the damn thing, and I would never watch it again. I don't have trouble with long movies at all yet this one dragged on forever to me. And there is nothing special about it at all. The plot was not original at all. Poor boy meets rich girl and they fall in love is done all the time and in this case is done rather poorly. In the case of the Titanic at that point in time not exactly very realistic on top of that. I'm not a critic I don't watch movies to complain about little details but I do expect to either enjoy movies I got to or at least be compelled by them and Titanic did neither. Plus the dialogue was pretty bad at parts. This doesn't always bother me but "I'm the king of the world" is about as bad as it gets. I know a lot of people like this movie and I don't have a problem with that. There are movies I like that people absolutely hate, but for my money Titanic was a C type picture at best.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) LA Confidential>>>>>>Titanic. I'm sure it is. Out of the Oscar winners I've seen in the last 15 years Titanic is easily the worst film of the group.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) 1997 (70th) BEST PICTURE As Good As It Gets -- James L. Brooks, Bridget Johnson and Kristi Zea, Producers The Full Monty -- Uberto Pasolini, Producer Good Will Hunting -- Lawrence Bender, Producer L.A. Confidential -- Arnon Milchan, Curtis Hanson and Michael Nathanson, Producers * Titanic -- James Cameron and Jon Landau, Producers Still boggles my mind that Titanic won an Oscar for best Picture. I haven't seen L.A. Confidential or The Full Monty but Good Will Hunting>>>>>>>>>>>>Titanic.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) It wasn't a HORRIBLE movie, but it was a lock for Oscars based on the plotline if it was ANY good at all. I am not going to argue since you clearly disagree, but the Oscars have a history of this crap. Care to provide some examples? Edit: And I haven't seen Brokeback so I have no idea if it is worthy of a nomination but I doubt it got one just because of its subject.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Minny winning out would be the one thing IU fans would hate. IU is an absolute lock at this point.
  24. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) They nominate a movie that glamorizes suicied bombers for an award, but fail to mention Theo Van gogh in the 'who died this year' list, even though he died for his art. Could it be bacause he was killed by a Muslim lunitic? I guess they can't be both heros and killers in the eyes of Hollywood. Did you even see Munich?
  25. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Boooo Gonzaga wins. I hate them for whatever reason, can't stand them. I hate them because they get a ton of hype that they don't deserve at all and will likely be seeded too high again this year.
